Filter by:This study seeks to provide insight on psilocybin's effects on mechanisms of chronic pain among patients with co-morbid chronic low back pain and depression (CLBP+D). Participants will receive either a single high-dose of psilocybin (25mg absolute dose) or methylphenidate (40mg absolute dose). Participants will be asked to complete assessments of pain, depressive symptoms, and more general questionnaires regarding the participants experiences during the experimental sessions and the associated enduring effects.
The prevalence of postpartum depression (PPD) varies between 11.9% and 19.2% during the perinatal period. PPD refers to minor and major depression incidents that occur during pregnancy or shortly after (up until 12 months after birth). The symptoms of PPD embrace feeling sad or having a depressed mood, being uninterested in the new-born, unreasonable crying and fear of injuring or harming the baby. Consequently, PPD can negatively impact the mother's well-being and the baby's development. The impact on a child can be short for cognitive and motor development . Although medication is a feasible alternative, many women have constraints due to continuing breastfeeding. Therefore, exercise can be an alternative that could help to deal with PPD. Exercise can be used as a preventive or treatment of mild depression at an early stage and as an addition to a treatment plan for major depressive disorder. Exercising during pregnancy and postpartum improves psychological health and also benefits physical fitness, weight gain control and the prevention or reduction of musculoskeletal discomfort and pain. Therefore, the American College of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists has recommended that women during pregnancy and postpartum engage in moderate-intensity physical activity almost every day for 30 min a day
This study is a multicenter, non-inferiority, randomized, parallel-group, open-label clinical trial aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of esketamine versus modified electroconvulsive therapy (MECT) in treating suicidal ideation during depressive episodes of mood disorders. Additionally, it seeks to explore the potential mechanisms of esketamine's anti-suicidal effects.
The goal of this research is to test if a prenatal yoga app can improve well-being in African American/Black (AA) pregnant women. The main questions it aims to answer are: 1. Is the Down Dog prenatal yoga app feasible for AA pregnant women? 2. How does mental and physical health change after using the Down Dog app for 12-weeks? 3. What cultural adaptations to the Down Dog app are needed? The study lasts for 12 weeks and participants are asked to: - do prenatal yoga with the app for at least 20 min/day, three days/week, from home - wear a Garmin Vivosmart 5 watch daily - complete four online surveys - complete an optional virtual interview This project aims to advance public health by contributing to a broader understanding of how prenatal yoga can support the health and well-being of AA pregnant women and promote optimal maternal and child health outcomes.
The present study seeks to follow up the cohort of adults representative of Chile's urban population whose levels of chronic pain were evaluated in March 2023 (baseline) as part of the Mental Health Thermometer (MHT) study. The study consists of a 12 month follow-up telephone interview to assess parameters of chronic pain (CP) and subtypes, mental and physical health, lifestyle and adversity and work characteristics. The study objectives are as follows: 1. Estimate the prevalence of CP and subtypes in the general population 2. Explore the association between mental health indicators, perceived work stress and presence of CP in the population. 3. Investigate the impact of CP (functional, occupational and social) among the subset of participants reporting CP 4. Describe the use of management strategies in those who suffer from CP.
The main cognitive complaint in brain-injured patients is often the everyday disorganization caused by Executive Function (EF) deficits. EF deficits are often seen in patients with psychiatric disorders i.e. depression or anxiety. In order to minimize everyday disorganization, effective EF interventions are required. Interventions using compensatory strategies have the potential to enable patients to minimize disabilities, minimize participation problems and to function more independently in daily life. A well-known evidence-based intervention that uses compensatory strategies is Goal Management Training (GMT), a training that has been found to alleviate depressive symptoms in a depressed population. GMT entails learning and applying an algorithm, in which a daily task is subdivided into multiple steps to handle executive difficulties of planning, and problem solving. To adopt the GMT strategy and ensure maximal profitability for patients, they have to learn to use the algorithm in different situations and tasks. Therefore, GMT is comprehensive, time-consuming and thus labour-intensive. Along with this, brain games become increasingly attractive as an (add-on) intervention, most notably in an effort to develop home-based personalized care. Until now, however, the rationale behind brain games is based on what can be considered the restorative approach (i.e. strengthening of executive problems) rather than practicing compensatory strategies, with little or no transfer to improvements in daily life functioning. This study therefore aims to assess the potential of a newly developed Brain Game, based on compensatory strategies, as an add-on to GMT to develop a shortened and partly self-paced GMT intervention. The primary objective of this study is to assess whether the use of a compensatory brain game supported GMT treatment could be of interest in people with EF deficits after ABI that also suffer from depression or anxiety, to improve goal achievement, their executive function performance during goal-related tasks, and their executive performance during an ecological valid shopping task. Also we assess whether psychological symptoms alleviate following the GMT intervention and at 6-weeks follow-up. The study will be a multiple-baseline across individuals single-case experimental design (SCED). The study population consists of brain-injured patients, between 18 and 75 years old that receive in-patient mental neuropsychiatric healthcare. Participants eligible for the study must have EF deficits due to (nonprogressive) Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), minumum time post-onset of 3 months and depressive or anxiety symptoms. EF deficits will be assessed by extensive neuropsychological examination. Participants will be recruited from an inpatient clinic. In the course of one and a half year four participants will be recruited.
Objective: To design, develop, and evaluate a personalized intervention for the universal prevention of depression and anxiety in the general population based on risk algorithms, ICTs, and decision support systems (DSS). Methods: A double-blind, parallel-group, randomized controlled trial with a twelve-month follow-up. The entire process of recruitment, random allocation, intervention, and follow-up will be conducted through the 'PredictPlusPrevent' platform and its associated apps. Following a media campaign, at least 9,000 Spanish participants aged 18 to 55 years without depression and/or anxiety at baseline will be randomly assigned to the intervention or active control group "PredictPlusPrevent". The "PredictPlusPrevent" intervention will be self-guided and implemented through participants' smartphones via an app; it will have a biopsychosocial and multi-component approach (8 modules: physical exercise, improving sleep, expanding relationships, problem-solving, improving communication, assertiveness, decision-making, and managing thoughts). The "PredictPlusPrevent" intervention is based on validated risk algorithms for depression and anxiety and a DSS that will help participants develop their own personalized depression prevention plans, which they will implement themselves while the platform monitors and provides feedback. The active control "PredictPlusPrevent" will include information from the risk algorithms and 24 self-help booklets. The primary outcome will be the incidence of new cases of depression and/or anxiety assessed using the PRIME-MD questionnaire, and secondary outcomes will include reductions in depression (PHQ-9) and anxiety symptoms (GAD-7), probability of depression and anxiety risk (predictD and predictA algorithms), and physical and mental quality of life (SF-12).
This clinical trial aims to explore the effectiveness of the Mediterranean DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay (MIND) diet and Forest Bathing (FB) in reducing psychological stress among older Chinese individuals. The main questions it aims to answer are: 1. what is the effect of FB on stress reduction 2. what is the effect of MIND on stress reduction Participants of the MIND-FB group will participate will receive 1. FB: a two-hour FB session on four consecutive weekends in a country park, 2. MIND: four nutrition sessions, and adhere to the MIND diet for 12 weeks Researchers will compare the FB and routine care groups to compare the effectiveness of MIND and FB in reducing psychological stress.
PROCARE is a preventive intervention that has shown its effectiveness in selective prevention to reduce young people's risk of developing emotional problems. In this study, an uncontrolled pre-post study is carried out where this personalized transdiagnostic preventive intervention in online mode is applied in the indicated population, with the following objectives: 1) provide data about whether there are improvements in the emotional state of adolescents after implementing PROCARE-I+; and 2) evaluate if there is any risk factor that predicts anxiety-depressive symptoms and/or emotional difficulties. The sample was made up of 30 adolescents who showed symptoms of anxiety and/or depression and a high risk of developing an emotional disorder and who benefited from the preventive, transdiagnostic, online and personalized intervention called PROCARE-I+. After the analysis of the data collected at the pre-intervention and post-intervention time, the data revealed that the intervention had an impact on improving the emotional state of the adolescents in terms of anxious-depressive symptomatology, quality of life and emotional regulation. On the other hand, the data revealed the absence of predictive relationships between the presence of a risk factor and suffering from symptoms of anxiety and depression; In contrast, predictive relationships were found between the presence of the family risk factor and suffering from some emotional difficulty.
