NCT ID: NCT04719949 Completed - Clinical trials for Adverse Childhood Experiences

Shaping Actions and Responses to Emotions

ShARE
Start date: February 9, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The primary objective of this research is to examine two brief interventions for depression, Behavioral Activation (BA), and Problem Solving Therapy (PST), to investigate whether exposure to adverse childhood experiences influences change in the hypothesized target treatment mechanisms linked to each intervention. Research suggests that the treatment targets of BA (reward processing) may be well-matched for youths exposed to childhood adversity, due to disruptions in reward that are linked with adversity exposure. The investigators will examine the effects of youths' adverse life experiences on change in reward-related treatment targets in BA, and compare this to change in the treatment targets of PST, executive functioning processes. The first aim is to investigate the effects of childhood adversity on change in target treatment mechanisms in BA and PST. The second aim is to test whether changes in reward processes is specific to BA, and not PST, among youths exposed to adversity. The third aim is to test the match of BA for depression among youths exposed to adversity, by examining whether BA results in greater reductions in depression symptoms among youths with greater adversity exposure. The investigators will also test whether greater change in reward in associated with greater depression symptom reductions in BA, and not PST.

NCT ID: NCT04719780 Completed - Depression, Anxiety Clinical Trials

An Attachment Based Approach for Anxiety and Depression

Start date: December 9, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of the current study is to examine the efficacy of Emotionally Focused Therapy for Individuals (EFIT) as a treatment for depression and anxiety. It is formulated as a trans-diagnostic treatment in line with the call for more transdiagnostic approaches to treat depression and anxiety given the many similarities in the underlying psychological and emotional factors of these disorders, the high levels of co-morbidity, and the preliminary success of transdiagnostic treatment approaches. EFIT has been formulated as an attachment-based alternative to current cognitive transdiagnostic approaches. The strong evidence for insecure attachment as an underlying factor in psychopathology, especially depression and anxiety, positions this theory well as a foundational principle to support psychotherapy for these conditions. EFIT has been formulated for the first time this year in the book that will serve as the therapy manual for this study. The current study aims to examine EFIT outcomes as compared to a control group (a wait-list control followed by online CBT intervention after the wait period). In particular, this research project aims to distinguish differences in initial and follow-up outcomes between EFIT versus control, and demonstrate significant changes in attachment/emotions and mechanisms of change across EFIT sessions. The primary hypotheses are outlined below.

NCT ID: NCT04719663 Completed - Clinical trials for Condition: Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)

The Modulatory Role of Communicated Treatment Rationale on Treatment Expectation Effects in Depression.

Start date: April 13, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Placebo groups in clinical trials on depression show impressive improvements. Yet, there is little research on the mechanism underlying this effect. The aim of this study is to assess how patients' treatment expectations modulate the placebo treatment effects. We expect that patients' treatment expectation determines placebo responses and treatment outcomes, and that this expectation is influenced by the disorder explanations (information about the illness models) typically provided during the initial medical encounters that precede treatment. In the study we aim to manipulate depressed patients' expectations by providing two different clinician-delivered illness and treatment rationales (biological/ psychological). Patients will then receive placebo treatment (pharmacological/ psychological), that is either congruent or incongruent with the previously communicated treatment rationale. Hypotheses: 1. Providing a treatment-congruent treatment rationale leads to a better outcome than providing treatment-incongruent rationales. 2. Treatment-congruent explanations reduce the risk of side effect development, in particular in the medication arm. 3. Inter-individual differences in the effect of provided treatment rationale are associated with pre-treatment experiences and expectations, depression severity and comorbid anxiety.

NCT ID: NCT04719143 Completed - Depression Clinical Trials

Effects of Insomnia Treatment on Metabolism in Patients With Depression

Start date: December 20, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This project will examine changes in metabolism and depressive symptoms after receiving CBT-I in 30 subjects with insomnia disorder and MDD.

NCT ID: NCT04716400 Completed - Anxiety Clinical Trials

Effectiveness Study of the Intervention "Stop Sexual Harassment" in Secondary School

Start date: April 13, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

"Stop sexual harassment" is a school based intervention tailored to reduce sexual- and gendered harassment among pupils in secondary school. The first aim of this study is to test to what extent "Stop sexual harassment" reduces sexual harassment and harassment based on sexual orientation and gender expression (gendered harassment) among 8th to 10th grade pupils in secondary school. The second aim of the study is to test to what extent the intervention increases teachers' responses to sexual- and gendered harassment among pupils. The intervention consists of eight lessons which address the prevention of sexual- and gendered harassment. METHOD: A minimum 32 schools with at least 3840 pupils will participate in a cluster randomized controlled trial. Participating schools will be randomly assigned to intervention schools and control schools. At the intervention schools, teachers will be introduced to "Stop sexual harassment" through a digital course which will provide them with a manual containing eight lessons to be held for the pupils. At the control schools there will not be any intervention. The effects of the intervention on pupils will be determined by assessing their experiences with sexual and gendered harassment, and internalized and externalized problems prior to the intervention (T1), shortly after the intervention (T2) and six moths after the intervention (T3). The effects of the intervention on teachers will be determined by assessing the teachers' experiences of responding to sexual and gendered harassment among pupils. HYPOTHESIS: It is expected that the intervention "Stop sexual harassment" will lead to reduced sexual and gendered harassment perpetration and victimization, and less internalized and externalized problems among the pupils in secondary school, and that teachers will more frequently take action when sexual- and gendered harassment is encountered among the pupils.

NCT ID: NCT04707495 Completed - Clinical trials for Subthreshold Depression

Treating Depressed Mood With a Smartphone-delivered Positive Word Stimulation for Subthreshold Depression

Start date: March 4, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is an important public health problem. Thus, preventive interventions against subthreshold depression (StD), which is one of the key risk factors for the development of MDD, are important. The study developed a smartphone application (SPSRS) that improves depressive symptoms in people with StD by automatically presenting positive word stimuli during videos. The SPSRS application has the potential to improve depressive symptoms in people with StDs. However, whether it can immediately improve depressed moods in people with StD is unclear. The study aims to investigate the immediate effects of SPSRS applications on depressed mood in people with StD.
