Filter by:Effective pharmacological and psychological treatments for depression are available. However, treatment modalities are not accessible to all patients diagnosed with depression. Furthermore, some individuals who access treatment drop out and relapse after treatment. Improving treatment modalities for depression is important given the rates of individuals diagnosed worldwide, and rather than developing new treatments, there is a need to explore how existing treatment modalities can be improved and implemented in a simpler and more cost-effective way. To address this need, Metacognitive Training for Depression (DMCT) was developed as a low-cost, easy-to-implement, cognitive behavioral therapy-based group intervention. The aim of Metacognitive Training is to reduce depressive symptoms by working with the patient's cognitive biases from a metacognitive perspective. The effectiveness of this method, which has been proven effective by studies in the literature, is presented with a pilot study on older adults in 2018. Since the studies evaluating the effectiveness of the Metacognitive Training-Silver program are limited and it has not yet been adapted to Turkish culture, this study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Metacognitive Training-Silver program in older adults diagnosed with depression.
Experiencing postpartum mood and/or anxiety disorders (like postpartum depression; PMADs) can make parenting challenging, but group therapy may help both these parents and their babies. This study will test whether postpartum parents with PMADs find a 12-session parenting group therapy to be likable, doable, and helpful for mental health, parenting stress, and relationship with their infant. The therapy that is being tested is called the Connecting and Reflecting Experience (CARE) parenting program, which has not yet been used specifically with postpartum parents with PMADs, but has been found to be appealing and helpful among parents/caregivers of older children with mental health conditions. CARE focuses on parents' ability to consider how their own and their children's thoughts, feelings, intentions, and other mental states shape behavior and parent-child relationships. Participants in the study will be asked to fill out surveys before, during, and after participating in the group therapy. Adults may be eligible to participate in the study if they gave birth to an infant who is now 3 to 12 months old, are receiving postpartum medical and/or mental health care at Montefiore Medical Center, and have experienced postpartum depression and/or anxiety.
The purpose of this randomized trial is to conduct a fully powered effectiveness trial of video-delivered PROTECT (Tele-PROTECT) compared to a video-delivered depression education (DepEd) control condition to be delivered to 140 English- and Spanish-speaking NYC elder abuse victims. Investigators hypothesize three main aims: 1. Effectiveness Aim: Tele-PROTECT participants will have significantly greater and clinically meaningful reductions in depression when compared to the DepEd control; 2. Abuse Impact Aim: Tele-PROTECT participants will demonstrate greater safety related empowerment compared to DepEd control, which can help participants take steps to reduce risk; 3. Implementation Aim: Stakeholders' views of the factors impacting the implementation of Tele-PROTECT based on characteristics of the intervention, agency setting, and population served will contribute to a national dissemination of Tele-PROTECT Participants will - Receive 9 weeks of tele health psychotherapy delivered by a Master's level mental health clinician from the Weill Cornell Medicine research team. Participants will be assigned to "Tele-PROTECT" or "DepEd" psychotherapy randomly. - Participate in one baseline assessment and four follow-up assessments at weeks 3, 6, 9, and 12 administered by a trained member of the research team.
Program AACTIVE will enroll 80 African American/Black men with type 2 diabetes and depression. Participants will be randomized to either the intervention arm or the control arm. Participants in the intervention arm will receive talk therapy and physical activity sessions over 12 weeks. Talk therapy and physical activity sessions will take place via a video conferencing platform. There will also be 3 in-person health assessments including baseline, at 12-weeks and 3-month follow up. The investigators are interested in seeing if physical activity and talk therapy improve A1C outcomes and depression symptoms for participants.
The objective of the investigators' mental health promotion intervention premised on the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) framework in secondary school settings aims to enhance young people's psychological flexibility and reduce their emotional distress. ACT is an evidence-based approach that encourages individuals to act in alignment with their identified values. The investigator's team will employ an ACT protocol for adolescents developed by Louise Hayes and Joseph Ciarrochi. The study includes a single-group study design. The investigator will compare the pre- and post-intervention data to assess the feasibility and potential effectiveness of the group intervention.
The goal of this clinical trial is to investigate the effect of a four-weeks, intensive virtual reality (VR)-based cognitive remediation (training) programme involving simulated daily-life challenges on cognition and functional capacity in symptomatically stable patients with mood disorders (depression or bipolar disorder) or psychosis spectrum disorders (F20-F29; e.g. schizophrenia or schizotypal disorder). The investigators hypothesize that VR-based cognitive remediation vs. a VR control treatment has a beneficial effect on cognition after four-weeks treatment completion (primary outcome assessement time) measured with a novel ecologically valid VR test of daily-life cognitive functions (The CAVIR test; primary outcome measure), a verbal learning and memory composite score based on a traditional neuropsychological test and a performance-based measure of daily functioning (secondary outcome measures). Finally, for exploratory purposes, the study will examine neuronal underpinnings of treatment effects, and effects on additional measures of cognition, functioning and self-ratings scales (tertiary outcomes).
The specific aim of this study is to compare simultaneous assessment of gastric emptying and gastric accommodation in response to the same caloric meal before and three months after activation of left cervical VNS. Our hypothesis is that cervical VNS increases gastric accommodation and accelerates gastric emptying.
This is a prevention intervention study that will examine the efficacy of a smartphone-based intervention in decreasing cancer risk by targeting mental health risk factors of anxiety and depression.
Objectives: Primary: To determine the efficacy of periodontal treatment on mental health outcomes in patients with major depression and periodontitis. Secondary: To identify the effect of periodontal treatment on oral, periodontal, and fecal metagenomic microbiomes, and on systemic levels of inflammation (bacterial, viral, and fungal) and their impact on mental health outcomes. Material and method: A 6-month pilot randomized controlled clinical trial is designed. The study will be conducted in patients with moderate or severe DM (Patient Health Questionnaire-9 [PHQ-9] index of 9 or higher) and stage III-IV periodontitis who will be assigned to two different interventions: - Test group: standard periodontal treatment consisting of two sessions of supragingival and subgingival debridement (steps 1 and 2) under local anesthesia. - Control group: periodontal treatment consisting of two sessions of supragingival debridement (step 1) under local anesthesia. The study will consist of 6 visits: - Screening visit (v0) - Baseline visit (v1): - In the mental health center: patients will receive a structured clinical interview for the DSM-IV (SCID) and the patient will fill out a series of specific scales on a study-specific electronic device [Beck Depression Inventory (BDI); UCLA Loneliness Scale, Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression scale [CES-D]; Childhood Trauma Questionnaire short form (CTQ-SF); The World Health Organization Quality of Life questionnaire (WHOQOL); Hamilton scale (HAM-D17); Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) Scale]. - At the UCM School of Dentistry: patients will receive a complete periodontal examination (clinical and radiographic). A subgingival microbiological sample, a saliva sample and a blood sample will also be taken. - At the participant's home: the stool samples will be deposited by the participants at home in the specific collection vial. - Intervention visits (v2-3): Two periodontal treatment sessions (test or control) will be carried out one week apart. - Re-evaluation visit (v4): Six weeks after treatment, all periodontal clinical variables will be recorded. - Follow-up visits at 3 and 6 months: after periodontal treatment, all the variables recorded at the baseline visit will be taken Statistical analysis: Periodontal treatment (test/control) will be considered as the independent variable and the Hamilton scale (HAM-D17) will be considered the primary response variable. The rest of the variables will be considered as secondary variables. A crude bivariate analysis of comparison of means or proportions will be carried out depending on the nature of the variable. In addition, crude and adjusted regression models will be performed.
With this study the investigators aim to examine through a mixed method study the feasibility, usability and satisfaction with the developed online tool for perinatal mental health problems. This will be done through a pre- and post measurement of depressive and anxiety symptoms and the use of the tool itself. In addition, a qualitative thematic analysis will be conducted on the clarity, understandability and user-friendliness of the tool.
