The Impact of the Hypnosis on the Loss of Weight at Patients in Failure of Bariatric Surgery

The therapeutic problem of obesity is weight control, a major difficulty, involving a significant change in eating behavior. A number of studies show that there are many factors of resistance to weight loss whether they are physiological, genetic, environmental pressure related, or psychological and behavioral. For some patients, the surgical approach seems the best alternative. Indeed, bariatric surgery is an effective therapeutic weapon in patients with morbid obesity. However, it has been shown that approximately 25% of patients are failing at two years of this surgery (Reinhold's index). Some of the failed subjects may benefit from surgical revision. As for the others, no intervention is currently proposed to them. Studies have shown that the psychological profile of patients who are candidates for bariatric surgery is predominantly impulsive, very anxious with a tendency to depression. The stress level of these patients would be important, and they would have low self-esteem. This study hypothesize that, in these patients, the establishment of hypnotherapeutic management associated with the usual dietary monitoring could modify eating habits thus promoting weight loss and an improvement in self-esteem , stress and anxiety compared to dietary monitoring alone.

Early Tracking of Childhood Health Determinants (ETCHED) Study

Background: Children s weight has increased sharply in recent years. This may put them at higher risk for health problems. High blood glucose in a pregnant mother and too much weight gain during pregnancy also may have long-term effects on the child s health. Children who become overweight or obese during childhood tend to remain so as adults. Researchers want to study many risk factors during and after pregnancy, and how these affect a child s development. They will also follow the mother s health and well-being after pregnancy. Objectives: To learn how a pregnant mother s environment, lifestyle, and health conditions may affect her child s growth and development from birth until adulthood. Eligibility: American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) or Hispanic adult pregnant women and their offspring. Design: Mothers will have 3 visits during pregnancy. In the child s first year, mothers will have 2 visits and their child will have 4. Children will have 2 visits in their second year and 1 each year until they turn 18. Mothers will have a visit 2 years after birth and 4-5 years later. Both the mother and child s medical records will be reviewed. They will have physical exams and give blood and stool samples. Mothers may give cord blood and placenta samples. They will give breastmilk and urine samples. They will fill out questionnaires. They will have an ultrasound. They may get an activity monitor. Mother and child will be followed until the child s 18th birthday.

Personalised Responses to Dietary Composition Trial

The foods we eat - our diet - can affect whether we develop diseases during our lives, such as diabetes or heart disease. This is because the amount and types of foods we eat can affect our weight, and because different foods are metabolised (processed) by the body in different ways. Scientists have also found that the bacteria in our guts (the gut microbiome) affects our metabolism, weight and health and that, together with a person's diet and metabolism, could be used to predict appetite and how meals affect levels of sugar (glucose) and fats (lipids) found in blood after eating. If blood sugar and fat are too high too often, there's a greater chance of developing diseases such as diabetes. The gut microbiome is different in different people. Only 10-20% of the types of bacteria found in our guts are found in everyone. This might mean that the best diet to prevent disease needs matching to a person's gut microbiome and it might be possible to find personalised foods or diets that will help reduce the chance of developing chronic disease as well as metabolic syndrome. The study investigators are recruiting volunteers aged 18 years or over from the TwinsUK cohort to take part in a study that aims to answer the questions above. The participants will need to come in for a clinical visit where they will give blood, stool, saliva and urine samples. The participants will also be given a standardised breakfast and lunch and fitted with a glucose monitor (Abbott Freestyle Libre-CE marked) to monitor their blood sugar levels. After the visit, the participants will be asked to eat standardised meals at home for breakfast for a further 12 days. Participants will also be required to prick their fingers at regular intervals to collect small amounts of blood, and to record constantly their appetite, food, physical activity and sleep using apps and wearable devices.

Juntos Santiago: Gamification Strategy to Reduce Childhood Obesity in Schools in Santiago de Chile

School-based interventions have shown mixed results. Most studies have lacked enough statistical power and have been carried out in North America and Europe. The Juntos Santiago is a cluster-randomized trial based on a gamification strategy conducted in Santiago de Chile. The trial uses elements of a game such as points, levels and rewards along with a strong community participation component. Children voted their enrollment and collectively chose the rewards (two per year, one activity and another structural) they are playing for. The intervention consists of a healthy snacks challenge, a steps challenge and an activity challenge. The primary outcome is change in z-BMI and waist circumference.

The Bariatric Surgery Registry

Persons with obesity are more likely to suffer from many other serious health conditions and are more likely to die young. Lifestyle interventions have not been found to be an effective long-term solution for treating obesity. When usual weight loss measures are not successful, bariatric, or 'weight loss,' surgery may be considered. Bariatric surgery is performed to help people with obesity achieve weight loss which they can maintain. Weight loss following bariatric surgery leads to improvement in health and well-being, and patients have been shown to live longer. It is invasive surgery which has surgical risks and potential side effects, including death. Since people are having this surgery to improve their health, it is important that the surgery is performed with a minimum of side effects, otherwise it cannot be justified. Information is collected about the surgery, any complications after the surgery, weight at various time points, and if the patient has diabetes and how it is is treated. Patient details are needed to be able to identify patients on the registry and track their progress through data linkages. Participants have information about their bariatric surgery provided to the registry by their surgeon or hospital. They may also be contacted directly by the registry staff to see if they had any complications and if the surgery had any effect on their health (if they have diabetes), weight, and well-being. The Registry will hold their identifiable information as it aims to follow each patient for ten years after their first bariatric operation. By systematically collecting information on every procedure performed in Australia and New Zealand, the registry will help to identify when surgeons, hospitals or procedures not performing to the expected standard. A Bariatric Surgery Registry should also be able to demonstrate how effectively bariatric surgery results in weight loss and improved health (using diabetes as a marker of health) across the two countries.
