Filter by:Insomnia is defined as some difficulty in sleep onset, consolidation, duration, or quality, despite appropriate opportunities for getting sleep. In the last decade, there is growing evidence associating insomnia and high blood pressure, (HBP), coronary disease, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, as well as with an increased mortality rate. Despite the previously mentioned advances, the real impact of insomnia on HBP is unknown. It is unclear whether the diagnosis and pharmacologic treatment of insomnia will have an impact on 24-h BP. The aim of this study is to outline the prevalence of insomnia in patients with HBP followed in the ambulatories from the Hypertension Units at InCor and Hospital das Clínicas. The main hypothesis is that the prevalence of insomnia is high and most patients remain undiagnosed and consequently untreated. For this phase, up to 1,500 patients with HBP will be selected. Besides the medical records with demographic and anthropometric data, personal and familiar background, as well as regular medication, all patients will perform three systematic and standardized blood pressure checks on electric monitors.
This is a randomized trial with a crossover design to investigate the short-term effects of two different dietary patterns on markers of vascular health. A low-carbohydrate diet and a whole-food, plant-based diet will be used. In addition to more traditional markers (cholesterol, blood pressure, inflammation), endothelial progenitor cells and trimethylamine N-oxide will be assessed.
The InterCARE research project proposes to leverage a successful national ART program to develop an effective package to improve the uptake of established effective hypertension and CVD risk factors management interventions among PLWHIV in Botswana and other low- and middle-income countries. Being the first project of its kind in Botswana, if successful, the InterCARE package could be readily rolled out to health facilities nationwide to diagnose, treat, track, and support the estimated 25-30% Batswana with hypertension.

The prevalence of critical ab extrinsic compression of left main coronary artery (LMCA) is very high in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) symptomatic for angina (up to 40% according to a recent study of 121 patients with PAH). The element that most of all correlates with the degree of coronary stenosis is the diameter of the pulmonary artery (PA). In particular, a diameter ≥ 40 mm has a sensitivity of 83% and a specificity of 70% in patients with angina. Critical stenosis of LMCA is a risk factor for sudden death and in these condition percutaneous coronary angioplasty with stent implantation has proven to be a safe and effective long-term procedure. Preliminary data from a retrospective analysis of the registry of patients with PAH in Bologna (ARCA registry, 109/2016/U/Oss) highlights that even in PAH patients asymptomatic for angina, compression of LMCA can occur in up to 13% of patients and the main predictive parameter of compression was found to be a diameter ≥ 42 mm (with a sensitivity of 87% and a specificity of 77%). Performing a screening test by coronary-CT scan in all subjects suffering of PAH with a PA diameter ≥ 40 mm even if asymptomatic for angina could therefore help to identify patients with PAH at increased risk for sudden death at an early stage.
The main purpose of this observation study is to collect data on the effects and side effects for 12 weeks of the medication administration of the single-pill combinations, which are fimasartan/amlodipine or fimasartan/amlodipine/hydrochlorothiazide, based on fimasartan. (Stage 1). Also, this study will evaluate major cardiovascular events, long-term blood pressure control, and the safety by follow-up of those who consent to the extended study for about 2 years (96 weeks).(Stage 2)

In recent years, a large number of consumer-grade and Smart Wearable Devices (SWD) such as smart watches, with BP measurement property, have entered the market and have a high configuration and utilization among young and middle-aged populations, but most of them are uncalibrated and have poor accuracy. Recently, several medical-grade smart BP watches have passed the national medical device registration test, which will provide an important tool for accurate screening of hypertension, especially masked hypertension, in young and middle-aged people. "Screening for masked hypertension in young and middle-aged adults with smart wearable devices" (SMART)aims to screen for masked hypertension using smart BP watches that have been tested for national medical device registration. It is planned to include 200 young and middle-aged subjects with normal blood pressure (BP) in the clinic, who will wear the smart BP watch for 7 consecutive days (BP will be measured at least once in the morning and once in the evening, 2-3 times each time), and if the mean BP is >= 135/85 mmHg, it will be determined to be MK and recommended for further consultation and treatment.

Most people with hypertension have no symptoms at all; this is why it is known as the "silent killer". More than 1 in 5 adults worldwide had raised blood pressure. There has been studies on strength exercise, severe aerobic exercise and other types of exercises and on their effects on blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen saturation in other patient populations and on healthy individuals as well, but in the patients with hypertension no comparison has been made between mild and moderate aerobic exercise (tread mill) yet, stating which one is effective. Secondly, already present studies have shown long term effects mostly, not the comparative effects of mild and moderate exercises on blood pressure heart rate and oxygen saturation of patients with hypertension. These techniques are inexpensive, easy to perform and contain no known harmful effect. Hence, current study will undertake this task of finding out what are the comparative effects of mild and moderate aerobic on the BP, heart rate and oxygen saturation and secondly which technique is more effective. Study design will Randomized clinical trial with non-probability convenient sampling. It will be single blinded study with blinding of assessor. Sample size was calculated from Epitools website and will be 28. There will be two groups which will be randomly assigned 14 people using lottery method. Data will be collected from community dwelling areas of Lahore Patients with hypertension with Systolic Blood Pressure 130 - 159 mmHg and Diastolic Blood Pressure 85 - 99 mmHg (pre hypertensive and stage 1), 30 to 50 years of age, patients who have taken any antihypertensive medicine in more than 6 hours and both males and females will be recruited. Tools will be aneroid sphygmomanometer for measuring blood pressure and pulse oximeter for measuring oxygen saturation and heart rate and Post interventional BP, heart rate readings and oxygen saturation will be taken for both groups on the same day. Post intervention blood pressure, Heart rate and oxygen saturation will be taken after 5 minutes.
