Standardized Diagnosis and Treatment of Endocrine Hypertension

Cases of endocrine hypertension or primary hypertension who have signed informed consent will be collected. Patients with endocrine hypertension will be divided into surgical treatment group and drug treatment group according to actual treatment situation. A database will be established for all patients. The investigators will comprehensively evaluate the general conditions, past medical history, metabolic and biochemical indicators, psychological status, cardiovascular risk factors. All the patients will be followed up for 12 months at baseline, 6 months and 12 months. Clinical data and specimen will be collected.

Value of Potassium Magnesium Citrate in Preventing and Treating Hypertension in African Americans

In the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) trials, a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, nuts and dairy products, and limited in fat content, was shown to be useful in controlling hypertension, particularly in African Americans (AA). Key components of such a diet are potassium, magnesium, and alkali, each of which has been implicated in lowering blood pressure. In the original IND 116,208, the investigators explored whether potassium-magnesium citrate (KMgCit) as a powder pharmaceutical formulation (dissolved in water before ingestion) could serve as a surrogate for the DASH diet and would lower blood pressure among patients with pre- or Stage I hypertension. Unfortunately, previous studies did not include adequate number of African American patients.

A Virtual Cardiometabolic Health Program for African Immigrants: The Afro-DPP Program

A pilot study titled "A Virtual Cardiometabolic Health Program for African Immigrants (The Afro-DPP Program) will be conducted to address the cardiometabolic of community-dwelling African immigrants who have multiple cardiometabolic risk factors including hypertension, Type 2 Diabetes, high cholesterol, and overweight/obesity. The proposed study will recruit a total of 60 participants and will use a non-equivalent control group design to test the effectiveness of the intervention at two African churches in the Baltimore, Washington, D.C. area. The two churches will be randomly assigned to the intervention or delayed intervention group. At the end of a 6-month follow-up period, the control church will receive the intervention (delayed control group). All participants will receive a Bluetooth-enabled digital scale (Omron Model: BCM-500) that measures body composition including Body Weight, Body Fat percentage, Visceral Fat, Skeletal Muscle percentage, Resting Metabolism and Body Mass Index. A Bluetooth-enabled blood pressure monitor (Omron Model: BP7250) will also be distributed to all participants. All participants will download the Omron Connect app which will allow the participants to sync participants' blood pressure readings and body composition readings into the app. The research team will access these readings to monitor study outcomes and participants progress during the follow-up period.

The purpose of this research study is to use a test called impedance cardiography (ICG) to provide more information about how to improve the control of blood pressure. Participants will be given this test so investigators can get more information about what is going on inside the heart and blood vessels that is contributing to high blood pressure. ICG is a lot like an EKG (electrocardiogram) in that it uses electrodes and a computer to make a report. Participants will lie down on the exam table and two electrodes go on the right ankle and two electrodes go on the left wrist. The process takes about 5 minutes and is painless and not invasive.

Interactions Between Antihypertensive Drugs and Drugs Prescribed in the Emergency Room

Drug interactions (IFF) are events that occur when multiple drugs are administered at the same time to an individual. People with arterial hypertension generally require therapeutic regimens based on 2 or more drugs for their adequate control, which makes them patients with polypharmacy. When these patients require urgent medical attention, there is a risk that IFFs will occur between their base treatment and the drugs that are prescribed to solve the added condition. Objective. To determine the frequency of pharmacological interactions between antihypertensive regimens and drugs used in the emergency service of Hospital General de Zona No 51 (HGZ 51). Material and methods: Observational, descriptive, and prospective study. The participants will be eligible patients with systemic arterial hypertension treated in the emergency room of HGZ 51 in Gómez Palacio, Durango. Support systems will be used for clinical decision, to identify potential IFFs and to be able to classify them according to their mechanism (pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics) and severity. A descriptive statistical analysis will be carried out in the SPSS program using measures of frequency, dispersion and central tendency.

Fruit and Vegetable Products Enriched With Fibre From Potato Starch With Prebiotic Properties for Children and Youth

The main goal of the project is to test fruit and vegetable mousse, with the addition of a fiber preparation made of potato starch with prebiotic properties, on selected clinical, metabolic and immunological parameters in overweight and obese children. The study will be performed in a group of 80 to 100 children aged 6 to 10 years (pre-pubertal age), using a double-blind procedure. Children will be randomly assigned into two groups, i.e. the intervention group (they will receive a vegetable and fruit mousse with the addition of potato starch fiber preparation with prebiotic properties) and the control group (they will receive an identical preparation in their diet, but without the addition of potato starch fiber preparation).
