Obesity is a disease that affects a large part of the world's population and is a risk factor for the development of metabolic, cardiovascular, oncological, and neurodegenerative diseases. Treatments with Gymnema Sylvestre (GS) and Berberine (BBR) have been studied in metabolic diseases such as obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2), and have gained importance in recent years, however, questions remain regarding their comparative effect on biochemical parameters, body composition and gene expression of adipokines. Methodology. We carried out a comparative study in 50 adult Mexican patients with a diagnosis of Obesity. Two groups of patients were formed: A. Treated with GS and B. Treated with BBR. Baseline and final measurements were determined 3 months after treatment. Biochemical and body composition parameters were evaluated and the gene expression of Resistin (Res), Omentin (Om), Visfatin (Vis) and Apelin (Ap) was determined, as well as safety parameters.

Determining the Physiological Mechanisms Behind the ObeEnd Device on Factors Regulating Appetite

In Canada, over 60% of adults are classified as overweight and obese resulting in a public health crisis including increasing health care costs and negatively impacting the well-being of many Canadians. To overcome these barriers, the ObeEnd device, manufactured by WAT Medical Enterprise, is a new and innovative wellness technology that uses electrical pulses to stimulate acupressure point PC6 to help control appetite. PC6 stimulation could potentially modulate appetite and restore gastric dysfunction, which are important factors that contribute to obesity. If PC6 electrostimulation facilitates the normalization of appetite and restoration of gastric dysfunction in those with obesity, then the device could be a potentially helpful aid to weight loss. To measure the change of appetite hormones and enzymes related to appetite regulation after using the ObeEnd device. The investigators hypothesize that, compared to placebo, electrostimulation of PC6 an acupuncture spot on the wrist over a two-week period will result in changes in enterogastic hormones in a direction that decreases appetite. The investigators also hypothesize that these changes will not affect physical activity levels but will correspond to changes in appetite and diet. This study will provide the first evidence of the effects of electrostimulation at PC6 on factors affecting body weight regulation providing insight into the utility of the ObeEnd device for weight control.

Our team has previously published articles providing detailed descriptions of the steps involved in both RS and LS. All surgeries adhered to the total mesorectal excision (TME) principle. In RS, a surgeon employed the Da Vinci Xi surgical system featuring a five-port setup, while five physicians conducted LS with a similarly configured five-port approach. Both the RS and LS doctors are experienced. The surgeries were conducted according to standard procedures, and the RS group utilized totally robotic rectal resection.

The Glycemic Index (GI), which is associated with many diseases today, is a value that measures the rate at which carbohydrate-containing foods raise blood glucose. It is thought that the loaves of bread produced will be a product with low GI value and can be consumed by celiacs and diabetics. It is aimed to investigate the effect of adding different amounts of hazelnut flour to bread recipes using gluten-free corn flour on blood glucose.

Study of Lipolysis of Visceral Reserve Fat Using Tecar Therapy.

The Scope of this study is to assess the visceral and subcutaneous fat loss in patients having Tecar (Radiofrequency) Therapy and its effects on other anthropometric variables, adipokines and inflammation. 20 obese patients will be treated with Tecar Therapy (Radiofrequency). Each patient will have 4 active, automatic plates placed on the abdomen (200 cm2 per plate), two on the right side of the midline and two on the left side. Energy will be applied for 50 minutes, controlling the temperature. Subsequently, 15 minutes of Capacitive and Resistive manual electrodes will be applied to the abdomen, simultaneously, 20 minutes of Lymphatic Drainage placing one active plate in the foot and the other in the lumbo-dorsal area. Patients will be informed that they will only feel comfortable warmth. Five sessions will be applied from Monday to Friday resting Saturday and Sunday, for 2 weeks. Total 10 sessions. Subcutaneous and visceral fat will be measured by MRI. Anthropometric variables (Body Mass Index, Waist to Hip ratio and skinfold) will be also measured. Metabolic and inflammatory effects of the RF treatment will be evaluated measuring adipokines (Leptin, adiponectin and resistin) as well as citokines (IL-6, TNF-a and C reactive Protein). Results will be analyzed using the SPSS statistics package. A Kolmogorov-Smirnov test will be applied, if the data behaves normally, parametric tests will be applied. If not, non-parametric tests will be performed. The differences between proportions will be analyzed using Fischer's exact test. The differences between the medians will be assessed using the Student's t-test for paired samples and independent samples.

Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is a common condition in which the upper airways (windpipe) collapse repeatedly during sleep, blocking the flow of air into the lungs. It is characterized by repetitive pauses in breathing during sleep, despite the effort to breathe, and is associated with a reduction in the amount of oxygen in the blood (oxygen saturation). People with OSA are at risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, depression, and premature death. OSA is usually treated using a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine. This involves the patient wearing a face mask during sleep which is connected to the machine which supplies a constant steam of air to help keep the airways open. This improves the symptoms and hopefully the long-term outlook, but it is an uncomfortable solution. OSA is associated with obesity and weight loss can improve or even cure it. Treatment with EndoBarrier (placement of a thin flexible tube that is placed inside your intestine creating a physical barrier between the intestinal wall and the food so less can be absorbed) can be associated with significant weight loss and can improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes related to their weight (diabesity). This study aims to find out if EndoBarrier treatment can improve OSA in patients with diabesity to the extent that some patients no longer require their CPAP machine treatment.
