Filter by:This is a randomized, controlled trial to assess the feasibility of Sidekick Health's digital programs for cancer patients. Participants will be treated with standard of care (SoC) in combination with the digital programs, or SoC only. We will compare the effect of the digital programs in addition to SoC to SoC only, on the cancer-related quality of life (QoL), cancer-related fatigue, and side-effect management.
Therapeutic advances in oncology have transformed the prognosis of cancer patients, placing a significant number of them either in a context of recovery or in prolonged remission close to a chronic disease. Thus, the reconquest of a life after cancer becomes possible but raises many challenges for the patient, his entourage, the medical profession and our society. One of the major challenges is the detection and management of treatment side effects for all patients. In addition to the standard organic assessment (glycaemia, creatinine, liver test, blood count), we are mainly interested in muscle deconditioning and cognitive impairment, which are particularly disturbed in these populations. After the evaluation day, patients are referred to the most appropriate structures (Adapted physical activity, sports for health, and rehabilitation at Henry Gabriel Hospital). JUMP research is part of axis 2 of the 2021-2030 cancer plan: "Limiting sequelae and improving quality of life", through sheets 1 (research) / 6 (access and quality) / 7 (prevention). This leads to the concrete implementation on the territory of adapted care channels in the city: medical structure, physiotherapy, Adapted Physical Activity (APA) structures, associative structures; which makes it possible to develop and strengthen the city-hospital link. Finally, it allows the patient to take ownership and get involved in the project, allowing in the future to make them truly active in they care and to advise and motivate their peers. This study is non-interventional, it uses research on data that is already collected as part of conventional care, during the JUMP evaluation day. This study allows the investigators to constitute a cohort of patients to study different parameters related to the disease or to the treatments received. Our main objective in this study is to describe the muscular and neurocognitive impairment of post-cancer patients evaluated as part of the JUMP program.

This prospective randomized control trial is being implemented in conjunction with UCLA Health's larger quality improvement initiative (the My Action Plan Quality Improvement Initiative) in order to improve primary care preventive measure completion rates.

Chronic physical conditions are defined as conditions that require ongoing management and treatment over extended periods of time. Chronic physical conditions are not only leading causes of death and disability in North America but they are commonly associated with mental distress and reduced quality of life. Online mind-body wellness programming ranging from physical activity to mindfulness interventions has been shown to be effective in improving mental wellness in a variety of chronic disease populations, but there is a need to evaluate scalable ways to deliver these programs. Building upon a previously developed online wellness program for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), the research team has developed a mind-body wellness program for adults ≥18 years of age living with different chronic conditions (e.g., cirrhosis, PBC, heart failure). The 12-week program will be delivered online, and include follow- along mindful movement, breathwork and meditation routines, and a psychology based coping skills program. In a three-armed randomized controlled trial, the study will assess the impact on the primary outcome of anxiety and depression as measured through the hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS). At the beginning and the end of the 12-week research study, participants will complete surveys to assess secondary/exploratory outcome measures including quality of life, fatigue, frailty, demoralization, and healthcare usage. After the program, the research team will conduct interviews with participants to allow them to share their other feedback about the program. The researchers will also send surveys to the participants eight weeks after the program ends to assess longer- term impacts on primary and secondary outcomes.
This study will evaluate the clinical impact and utility of digital health solutions (DHS) on health outcomes and health-care resource utilization in people receiving systemic anti-cancer treatment (approved or non-approved) in clinical practice.
The investigators will examine whether a combination of at-home nucleic acid amplification tests, on-demand telemedicine, and delivery of prescriptions such as Paxlovid quickly after testing positive for COVID-19, can reduce severe outcomes and hospitalization of immunocompromised patients and those who are 65 years and older. They will also analyze whether these efforts lower the cost of care compared to standard of care.
The purpose of this study is to implement and evaluate the recently developed Iowa Cancer Affiliate Network (ICAN) intervention. The ICAN intervention will consist of members of the research team providing ongoing support to participating hospitals in achieving the quality standards outlined by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC). Support will be offered in the form of education and training regarding the standards and provision of cancer services, regular in-person and zoom check-ins with hospital stakeholders to evaluate progress, and provision of documentation and educational resources regarding standard requirements. Implementation approach:1) Engage implementation teams and develop and execute implementation plans based on hospital needs assessments; and 2) Conduct interviews with key ICAN stakeholders to assess acceptability, adoption, appropriateness and cost (based on Proctor's implementation outcomes framework) and determinants of these outcomes (e.g., hospital structure, culture, resources, capacity, readiness) based on the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research. Evaluation approach: Using Iowa Cancer Registry data routinely collected for surveillance purposes, the investigators will compare rates of compliance with pre- and post-intervention treatment-related quality measures in target and control hospitals. The rural hospitals in Iowa that serve the most rural cancer patients and have never been accredited by the CoC were chosen for intervention targets, and all committed to participating in the study (letters of support provided). The remainder of rural hospitals that care for >100 newly diagnosed cancer patients per year (n=5) were chosen as a comparison group. The investigators will use data routinely collected by the Iowa Cancer Registry to compare aggregate compliance with quality measures for cancer care between the hospitals included in the intervention and comparison group hospitals using a difference-in-difference estimator. In addition, the investigators will conduct interviews with representatives from intervention hospitals to assess the extent to which ICAN hospitals implemented the CoC standards of cancer care.
This research study is being done to develop an intervention for psychological symptoms that patients diagnosed with cancer may experience. Psychological symptoms may include thoughts, feelings, emotions, and memories The names of the study intervention and research activities involved in this study are/is: - Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) for Cancer (involving 6 sessions with a licensed clinical psychologist) - Questionnaires - Post-study interview Consistent with the NIH Stage Model for Behavioral Intervention Development, the investigators have adapted an existing, empirically-validated intervention, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), to address substance use disorder risk during cancer care. The core components of ACT are particularly well-suited to address the psychological processes underlying opioid misuse in individuals treated for cancer pain. The overarching aim is to assess the feasibility and acceptability of the intervention by conducting a randomized pilot trial of the revised intervention ("ACTION") for cancer patients on opioid therapy, and at risk for SUD.
