The Effect of Dignity Therapy Applied to Cancer Patients

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of dignity therapy on the quality of life and depression levels of cancer patients. Methods: The research was planned as a randomized controlled experimental study. Type of Research: Research, experimental, control group and pretest-posttest study will be carried out. Population of the Study: The population of the study was sent to Meram Medical Faculty Hospital Oncology Clinic consists of male and female inpatients. Sample of the Research: Those who agreed to participate in the research and met the inclusion criteria. Patients who meet will be included in the study. It was 48. It was planned to be. Randomization: In this study, parallel group block randomization method was applied to the intervention and control groups. will be allocated randomly. Block randomization was used because the sample size was small. Patients will be selected equally using permutation method, and randomization will be selected using blocking technique. will be done. During randomization, CONSORT 2017 will be used. For randomization; To control for performance bias, patients will be blinded to the study hypothesis and will not be informed which group they are in. There will be no blinding for the researcher. However, blind technique will be used in the research. This blind technique will be applied by the researcher with the patients blinded until the application begins.. Data Collection Techniques and Tools: "Personal Information Form", "Patient Dignity Inventory" and "Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale" were used in data collection (RSES)" will be used.

Cardioprotective Empagliflozin for Cancer Patients Receiving Doxorubicin

Doxorubicin induced cardiomyopathy is the most common and serious side effect associated with doxorubicin treatment in cancer patients receiving doxorubicin. Studies have been shown that Empagliflozin can reduce cardiovascular mortality and hospitalization for heart failure in patients with heart failure with or without diabetes and current clinical trials indicate that SGLT2 inhibitors protect against heart failure outcomes and can reduce cardiac remodeling even in patients without diabetes. Empagliflozin had beneficial effects on the outcome of the cardiomyopathy and also has anti-tumor activity in animal studies, but clinical studies are still lacking. We are going to investigate the cardioprotective effect of Empagliflozin against doxorubicin induced cardiomyopathy. Objective: - Evaluate the prophylactic effect of using Empagliflozin "a selective inhibitor of the sodium glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2)" against doxorubicin induced cardiotoxicity in patients receiving doxorubicin-based chemotherapy. - Monitor the safety of adding empagliflozin to doxorubicin-based chemotherapy.

The Care Tracker Study: Using Patient-Reported Data to Address Racial Disparity in Cancer Treatment

This study assesses the feasibility and acceptability of a brief electronic patient-reported outcome (ePRO) tool that allows patients to self-identify impending delays. The risk of treatment delays according to tumor type and race will be measured by both ePRO and electronic health record (EHR) tools. Data from this study and the association of social determinants of health could be useful to flag patients at risk of delay and due timely intervention for modifiable treatment barriers. The prediction of the risk of treatment delay will be helpful to design another study using electronic tracking systems to prevent cancer treatment delays. The long-term goal of this research is to alert care teams when patients may be at risk of treatment days and to help patients get treatment faster. It was planned to enroll a total of 240 subjects with newly diagnosed cancer. Sixty colorectal and 180 breast cancer patients will be included.

The investigators are working with primary care research teams, and using an online electronic questionnaire. Although the study is entirely observational, the study offers some of the questions in a random order, so the investigators can explore the effect of changing the way in which questions are asked.

The goal of this hybrid type 1 effectiveness-implementation study is to evaluate and compare different ways of delivering genetic research results to participants. The main questions the study aims to answer are: - Is sharing actionable genetic research results with participants through a multimedia patient-informed eHealth intervention (e.g. patient portal) no worse than sharing results by telephone or videoconference with a genetic counselor? - Will research participants access an eHealth educational intervention or chatbot education to learn about research results being offered and the option to decline learning their individual research results and how frequently participants choose to decline actionable research results? - Who benefits less and more from digital intervention with return of actionable research results and what barriers exist to using these tools for return of research results outside this study? Participants in the biobank will be offered digital tools to learn about research results being offered and the option to decline receiving these results. Those who don't decline and have an actionable result will be randomly assigned to receive their results with a genetic counselor or through an eHealth portal. Participants will complete surveys before and after receipt of results to understand patient experiences with these methods of education and return of results to determine if digital tools can be used to help ensure more patients get access to research results which could impact their health.

The Chemo-Gut Probiotic Trial for Cancer Survivors

Purpose: The goal of this clinical trial is to determine whether probiotics can reduce gastrointestinal and psychosocial symptoms in post-treatment cancer survivors by impacting the gut microbiome. Objectives: The main questions the investigators aim to answer are: - Does taking the probiotic reduce gastrointestinal (e.g. belly pain) and psychosocial (e.g. depressive symptoms, fatigue) symptoms, and impact the gut microbiome? - What relationships exist between gut bacteria, gastrointestinal, and psychosocial symptoms? Methods: The study team will investigate this by giving a group of adult post-treatment cancer survivors either a probiotic capsule (intervention) or placebo capsule (control) over 12 weeks. Investigators will then analyze the bacterial diversity in participants' stool samples before and after these 12 weeks to see how the bacterial composition changed due to the treatment. Surveys will be used to ask participants questions about their physical and mental health, including specific gastrointestinal and psychosocial symptoms. Implications: Cancer recovery is tough enough, and to minimize treatment-related long-term effects through a simple probiotic capsule would immensely improve the well-being and health of survivors.
