The Effect of Operating Room Nurse Visit Prior to Cardiac Surgery on Patients's Anxiety, Pain and Analgesic Use

This study was planned as a quasi-experimental pre-test post-test control group design in non-randomized groups to determine the effect of the preoperative visit by the operating room nurse on the postoperative anxiety level and pain severity of patients undergoing open heart surgery.After approval of the ethics committee and institutional permission, 64 patients who were operated in Cardiovascular Surgery between September 1, 2020 and April 1, 2020 and met the inclusion criteria will be included in the study.Sample size and power analysis of the research was calculated by using the Clinical Calculator program,reported academic studies was determined as effect value (size) d = 2.0935, α = 0.05 (margin of error), 1-β = 0.80 (Power).It was decided to include 64 people (32 per group). operated with the CPB (cardiopulmonary bypass) method were included. The assignment to the control group and the experimental group of patients who meet the inclusion criteria and agree to participate in the study will be made with the random numbers table created using the create number function in the Excel program.

The Effect of Stress Ball Used During Endoscopy

Endoscopy procedure is a frequently used method in the evaluation of the gastrointestinal system. Upper gastrointestinal system endoscopy can be performed with and without sedation. Sedation is the controlled sleep of the patient with certain drugs (pharmacological methods). Non-pharmacological methods help reduce anxiety and pain. In this study, a non-pharmacological stress ball will be used. It is aimed to evaluate the effect of using a stress ball on pain, anxiety and satisfaction during upper gastrointestinal system endoscopy.

The Thrust Technique of Tibiotarsal Joint on the Symptomatology of Pain at Classical Ballet Dancers

Classical ballet is a type of high performance dance that requires great effort and extreme joint positions by its dancers, not to mention a precise control of the ankle joint when on pointe position. Ballet dancers excessively dorsiflex, and especially plantar flex the ankle, which predisposes anterior displacement of the talus, possibly causing mobility restrictions of the tibiotarsal articulation and making it difficult and painful to move the ankle while dancing. The Thrust technique of tibiotarsal joint is a manipulation that aim to improve mobility and articular function through a high-speed and short-range movement. The purpose of the study is to verify the effect of the Thrust technique of tibiotarsal joint on the pain symptomatology in classical ballet dancers. Ballerinas included in the study presented pain in the ankle when dancing classical ballet, tenderness to palpation in the anterior and posterior tibiotarsal articulation, and dysfunction after compression of the tibiotarsal articulation. The sample consisted of 20 ballerinas, out of which 10 were subjected to manipulation (IG) and 10 formed the control group (CG). Algic symptomatology in classical ballet dance was assessed after some practice with the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). After that, an algometer was used to quantify the threshold of pain in the anterior and posterior ankle joint that presented restrictions in mobility. The Tug technique was performed in the tibiotarsal articulation in the IG, and in the CG it was simulated. The threshold of pain in the anterior and posterior tibiotalar joint was measured again immediately after the intervention or simulation. The ballerinas were reassessed using algometry and the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) one week after the manipulation.

The effect of transauricular electrical vagal nerve stimulation (taVNS) will be studied on temporal summation of heat pain (TSP) in 30 patients with chronic low-back pain and in 30 heathy volunteers. Participants will receive either taVNS or sham stimulation before and during TSP induction in a randomized crossover manner. The participants will be unaware regarding the type of intervention.
