Active Videogames Against Obesity in Children

Active video games are presented as an exercise option for children with little interest in traditional sports. The main objectives of this study are: 1. To evaluate the effects of an active video game program on cardiometabolic risk in overweight/obese children 2. to identify the effect of this intervention on physical fitness 3. to study possible changes in the sedentary lifestyles of children after the exercise program. This is a randomized crossover study, with 2 intervention periods of 9 months each, and a 3-month period of washing. Ninetytwo children between 9 and 11 years old who are overweight or obese will be included and randomly assigned to one of the 2 homogeneous groups (control-intervention). Both groups will receive education in healthy lifestyles, and the intervention group will also follow a physical exercise program with active video games (3-4 days/week). The sessions will last between 30 and 45 minutes and will include different moderate-vigorous aerobic activities and muscular strength exercises. Body composition, physical fitness, levels of leptin, adiponectin and visfatin, lipid and ferric profiles, and markers of inflammation and metabolic risk such as insulin resistance, TNF-α, CRP, ALT, AST, gamma-GT and IL-6will be measured before and after the intervention. In addition, dietary habits (24h recalls), physical activity (accelerometers), blood pressure, waist and neck circumference, and pubertal development will be also assessed.

Effect of Periodontal Debridement on Leptin Levels in Obese

The main purpose of the study is to quantify of Leptin hormone in patients with normal weight, class I obesity, class II obesity and periodontitis, before and after scaling and root planning (SRP) and correlate the Body mass index (BMI) with Leptin levels. A double-blind, controlled, clinical trial was conducted. The sampling method was probabilistic stratified and the sample size 27 subjects in total, divided in 3 groups of: 9 normal weight patients, 9 class I Obesity patients and 9 class II Obesity patients and history of Generalized Periodontitis Stage II,III or IV, Grade B or C, who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria and signed an informed consent. All patients received SRP and clinical monitoring at baseline and 3 months post-therapy by the same examiner.Probing depth (PD), Clinical Attachment Level (CAL), Biofilm Index (BI) and Bleeding on Probing (BoP), Tooth Mobility and Suppuration were evaluated as clinical variables. Serum levels of leptin were evaluated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) at baseline and 3 months post SRP.

During confinement, food intake can become compulsive, physical activity is significantly reduced, sleep is altered with exacerbated anxiety and stress levels and increased family violence. In some at-risk patients, mental health may even deteriorate. The temptation is great for all to take refuge in food or in front of screens. The main elements that can impact weight changes during this period of confinement are stress and anxiety, lack of physical activity, changes in eating habits, sleep disturbance and alcohol consumption. The investigators wish to study the impact of confinement on pre-post confinement weight loss kinetics in adults included in weight reduction programs (RNPC).

Even when they know it can improve health, many individuals with loss of control eating struggle when they are trying to make and sustain new health habits for weight loss and maintenance of weight loss. Impulsivity, characterized by lack of foresight and planning and excessive risk taking, and compulsivity, characterized by inability to break old habitual behaviors, may play a role in refractory obesity. The primary objective of this pilot study is to investigate the effect of a novel neuroplasticity based intervention, cognitive training coupled with transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), on measures of impulsivity and compulsivity in individuals with obesity.
