Background: The Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease, which was first identified in December 2019 and has then spread rapidly around the world. COVID-19 spreads mainly through respiratory droplets and causes people to experience mild to moderate respiratory illness. On 11 March 2020, the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic. With the surge in cases and to contain the spread of this disease, Singapore implemented a circuit breaker to reduce movements and interactions in public and private places. People are advised to stay at home and practise social distancing. With restrictions in movements, parents and children are likely to be more sedentary in this pandemic. There is an urgent need to move face-to-face interventions to online interventions as it is important to be active in this period. Childhood obesity threatens the health of US and Singapore populations. In the US, 30% of children are overweight, 17% have obesity, and 8% have severe obesity. In Singapore, 13% of children have obesity, and approximately half of all overweight children live in Asia. In both countries the prevalence is increasing, especially amongst the lower income populations, and is associated with future cardiovascular and metabolic disease. In US, obesity is most prevalent in Black and Hispanic populations and in Singapore, obesity affects Malays and Indians disproportionately. The underlying drivers and potential solutions thus share many common factors. The current evidence shows a clear dose-response effect with increasing number of hours of treatment, with a threshold for effectiveness at > 25 hours over a 6-month period. A key gap in delivering this recommendation is meeting the intensity, and delivering comprehensive treatment that is culturally relevant, engaging to families, and integrated within the community context. The study is an online pilot randomised controlled trial among children aged 4-7 with obesity, in Singapore, to test a novel school-clinic-community online intervention, the KK Hospital (KKH) Sports Singapore program, for child obesity treatment with usual care. The primary outcome is intensity of treatment as measured by hours of exposure to intervention. The online KKH Sports Singapore program involves 4-6 weekly online sessions of physical activity and nutrition lessons for children and parents.
Obese patients have a higher risk of anesthesia compared to the non-obese, including difficult intubation, rapid desaturation, difficult vascular access, and delayed recovery from anesthesia. This study aims to investigate the optimal anesthesia strategy for morbidly obese patients undergoing bariatric surgery in airway management, preoxygenation, arterial cannulation, and type of volatile anesthetic with M-Entropy guidance. The investigators will conduct a two-year clinical trial using permuted block randomization to evaluate multiple outcomes in patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) at Shuang Ho Hospital, Taipei Medical University. Particularly, the investigators will explore the role of ultrasound, an easily accessible modality for anesthesiologists, in examining upper airway anatomy and guiding arterial cannulation. The investigators will also assess the effectiveness of high-flow nasal cannula as a preoxygenation tool in preventing desaturation.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the feasibility of conducting a multicomponent lifestyle intervention research study within the UAB Family Medicine Clinic at Highlands and to obtain preliminary data on the effectiveness of the adaptive treatment strategies being investigated to produce improvements in insulin resistance. This study is a Sequential Multiple Assignment Randomized Trial (SMART) with initial randomization groups of individualized nutrition counseling vs. individualized exercise counseling. Note that these initial nutrition or exercise interventions are NOT intended to produce significant weight loss. Participants that do not sufficiently improve their insulin resistance score after 8 weeks will be re-randomized to 2nd stage interventions of either receiving dietary counseling for weight loss or receiving a prescription for metformin. We will collect data on the effectiveness of the intervention to improve insulin resistance/metabolic health in the family medicine clinic as well as potential predictors or moderators of treatment success.

This is a first-in-human (FIH), single-centre, double blind, randomised, SAD and MAD study of XW003 conducted in healthy adult participants. The study is designed to evaluate the safety, tolerability, PK, and PD of XW003 in healthy adult participants.
This study investigated if elevated BP and aortic stiffness characterized in obese individuals are attenuated following acute grape seed extract supplementation. It is hypothesized that acute dietary supplementation with grape seed extract attenuates aortic stiffness, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, mean arterial pressure, and total peripheral resistance and these effects are partially due to reductions in peripheral vasoconstriction
This single-center, randomized trial examined the effect of MIND diet intervention on cognition and brain structure changes of healthy obese women over three months. The intervention group was lea to calorie-restricted modified by the MIND diet, and the control group received a calorie-restricted standard diet. The primary end-point was an assessment of cognitive performances measured with a comprehensive cognitive test battery. Secondary end-points were voxel-based morphometry to quantify the differences in brain structures. Our results revealed MIND diet could improve working memory, verbal recognition memory, and attention, more in comparison with the control group. Results also suggest that an increase in inferior frontal gyrus in the MIND diet group. Our study, for the first time, underlined that good adherence to the MIND diet as well as calorie restriction could reverse the destructive effect of obesity on cognition.
The study is aimed to determine impact of dynamic resistance exercise training on Body Fat percentage of class-I Obese population and to quantify the dose of exercise program using a probit regression curve
