Filter by:Obesity is a chronic disease in which accumulation of excess body fat can result in impaired health. In cases of severe obesity, weight loss surgery can be necessary as a treatment. There are different forms of surgery but the common basic principle is to restrict food intake and decrease the absorption of food in the stomach and intestines. As a consequence, there is a higher risk of developing nutrient deficiency after surgery and supplementation of protein, vitamins, and minerals can be necessary. This study evaluates intakes of protein, vitamins, and minerals in patients with weight loss surgery and compares them to recommended intakes. Further, this study looks at the role of age, sex, and socioeconomic status in this context.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether the Noom Healthy Weight Program, a digital behavior change weight loss intervention, creates a positive relationship with food, compared to a waitlist control group.
Intermittent fasting is an increasingly popular diet pattern of alternating eating and dieting.One particular form of intermittent fasting is the so-called time-restricted feeding (TRF). TRF allows for ad libitum feeding within a large window of time each day, and does not require any calorie counting. There is growing evidence that it can lose weight, reduce insulin resistance and improve cardiometabolic health. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common reproductive endocrine and metabolic disease affecting women of childbearing age. PCOS shows anovulation or oligoovulation, hyperandrogenemia and ovarian polycystic changes. Insulin resistance and obesity are common features of PCOS. Whether the TRF impacts women with PCOS is still unknown due to the paucity of data in this area. To explore the effects of TRF on the endocrine and metabolic profile in overweight women with PCOS, a 6-week single-arm trial, divided into 2 consecutive periods: (1) 1-week baseline period; and (2) 5-week TRF period, will be implemented.

The purpose of this prospective randomized controlled study is to evaluate the impact of a six-month digitally administered behavioral change program on body weight, glycemic control and other metabolic parameters in obese adults with insulin resistance, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes as compared to conventional high-intensity lifestyle intervention program administered at a specialized department of a university hospital.
This research will constitute a 3 years follow-up which includes a re-assessment and re-intervention of obese or overweight adults with hypertension, recruited from a hypertension unit of a public hospital, that already participated in a similar program 3 years ago. At the same time, the aim of the study is to analyze the effects of the current program, which will take 3 months and promotes lifestyle changes focusing on healthy eating and increased physical activity in their 9 modules, comparing the results obtained in 2018. These patients will be allocated into one experimental group. Assessment will include: Blood Pressure, Body Mass Index, Physical Activity levels, and adherence to the Mediterranean diet.
This study focuses on a comprehensive examination of obese patients with sleep-related breathing disorders including patients with OSA, sleep hypoventilation and OHS. The aim of this study is to (1) evaluate characteristics of and differences between severity levels of obesity-related breathing disorders, (2) discuss pathophysiological variables associated with hypoventilation during sleep or at daytime and (3) find functional parameters indicating sleep hypoventilation.
Purpose: To better understand the impact of different front-of-package labels (FOPLs) on consumer purchasing intentions and ability to identify unhealthy foods. Participants: ~8,000 Colombians, recruited from Offerwise, that are 18 years or older. Procedures (methods): Participants will be randomly assigned to view images of food and drink products with either a nutrient warning label, Guideline Daily Amount label, Nutriscore label, or no-label control. They will be asked a series of questions about the products and the labels (excluding control group) on them. Questions will also include standard demographic and health related variables.
Purpose: To evaluate reactions to and opinions of a messaging campaign. Participants: Participants will be recruited through Prime Panels and will be US-based adults (18 years old and older) who consumed red meat in the past 30 days. Procedures (methods): After completing a screening question about meat consumption, participants will review a consent form. If they select to participate in the study, participants will be randomly assigned to view control messages, red meat-related environment messages, or red meat-related health messages. They will be asked a series of questions about these messages. Participants will also be asked about grocery shopping preferences and standard demographics questions.
The aim of the trial is to study the effect of a mobile application-based lifestyle change program on body weight loss in adult subjects with obesity. The main focus is to motivate and support beneficial lifestyle changes targeting long-term weight management. This study comprises two randomly assigned study arms: mobile application-based lifestyle change program and "waiting-list" control. The mobile application-based lifestyle change program consists of twice a week content for the first 6 months, continuing with less frequent contents for the following 6 months (the length of intervention 12 months). The "waiting-list" control group will receive mobile application-based lifestyle change program after 6 months followed by intervention for 12 months. The main aim is to demonstrate that the users of mobile application-based lifestyle change program lose more weight than controls at 6 month timepoint and weight loss is maintained for 18 months (6 months after the end of mobile application-based lifestyle change program use). Weight is measured and blood samples (lipids, glucose and metabolic syndrome measures) are collected at 0, 6, 12, and 18 months. The mobile application-based counselling contains aspects of cognitive behavior therapy and persuasive system design and consists of twice a week reminders, tasks, self-monitoring, and reflection. The main outcome is the decrease in body weight. Secondary outcomes are changes in eating behavior, psychological factors, components of metabolic syndrome (waist circumference, plasma lipid and glucose values, blood pressure), and calculated scores of metabolic condition and adiposity.
