Filter by:This study will address engagement in unhealthy behaviors, low levels of self-regulation, and unhealthy weight gain for children from low-income households.
This research is to develop a weight loss and weight maintenance program through dietary modifications for adults with obesity. Although scientific studies have shown the feasibility of rapid and safe dietary weight loss and subsequent weight maintenance, no efficacious dietary weight management program is widely available, and thus bariatric surgery remains the most reliable approach for weight loss/management. Safe and effective dietary weight loss and subsequent weight maintenance require flexible, individualized advice by an experienced dietitian/nutritionist.

Regular consumption of dairy products is found to negatively associated with metabolic diseases and improve body composition in long term studies and has positive effect on acute glycemia control and satiety. However, new Canada's Food Guide released in 2019 promotes a shift from traditional dairy products to plant-based dairy alternatives. The present study examines the effect of traditional dairy products in comparison with plant-based alternatives on glycemic response and satiety.
This study collected clinical data of obese patients with euthyroid function, including age, gender, height, weight, BMI, waist circumference, blood pressure, fasting blood sugar, blood sugar 2 hours after sugar load, fasting plasma high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, fasting three acyl glycerin, free iodine thyroid hormone (FT3) and free thyroid hormones (FT4), thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), follow-up information and etc. Via analyzing the data, the investigators want to investigate the association between thyroid hormones (THs) and metabolic components in obese patients with euthyroid function and to present the cutoff values of THs in order to provide new information for the risk stratification of metabolic syndrome in obese patients with euthyroid function.
This is a single-center observational study on adolescents to determine predictors of the early steps of the formation of atherosclerosis and to quantify their influence on Intima-Media-Thickness of the carotid artery and the aorta and on the Pulse-Wave Velocity. A long-term follow-up by means of record linkage is furthermore planned to evaluate the effect of early atherosclerosis and the cardiovascular risk profile on future morbidity with a special focus cardio- and cerebrovascular events.
Aim: Although regional anesthesia (RA) techniques are advantageous in the anesthetic management of obese patients (body mass index (BMI)≥30); their performances can still be associated with technical difficulties and greater failure rates. The aim of this study is to compare the performance properties and analgesic efficacy of ultrasound (US)-guided bilateral thoracic paravertebral blocks (TPVBs) in obese and non-obese patients. Material methods: After obtaining ethics committee approval; data of 82 patients, who underwent elective bilateral reduction mammaplasty under general anesthesia with adjunctive TPVB analgesia between December of 2016 and February of 2020, were reviewed. Patients were allocated into two groups with respect to their BMI scores (Group NO: BMI<30 and Group O: BMI≥30). Demographics, TPVB ideal US image visualization and performance times, needle tip visualisation and TPVB performance difficulties, number of needle maneuvers, surgical, anesthetic and analgesic follow-up parameters, incidence of postoperative nausea vomiting (PONV), sleep duration, length of postanesthesia care unit (PACU) and hospital stay, patient and surgeon satisfaction scores were all investigated and compared.
Prospective study including Mexican patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and class 1 obesity, undergoing laparoscopic gastric bypass. The objective was to determine short, mid-and long-term outcomes (weight loss, metabolic, morbidity and diabetes remission). A subanalysis was included, based on preoperative usage of one (Group A) or more antidiabetics ± insulin (Group B).
The over-all aim of this 10-week randomized-controlled study, taking place only in Denmark, is to examine whether the PREVENTOMICS platform integrated in an e-commerce digital tool created to deliver personalized meals and dietary advices is able to produce more favorable health effects than meals based on general dietary recommendations in overweight subjects with elevated waist circumference.
In anorexia nervosa, the eating disorder (ED) is the cause of thinness. In severe obesity, the overweight is a symptom. This symptom, however, is only the consequence of possibly deregulated eating behavior. The literature, focusus a specified ED of DSM-V: Binge Eating Disorder (BED) or Binge Eating, whom estimated prevalence in the severely obese population varies from 1.4 to 49% depending on the studies. The other ED, called unspecified ED (or EDNOS for Eating Disorder Non Otherwise Specified in the English literature), are much less known. The main objective of this study is to assess the prevalence rate of unspecified ED (EDNOS or "non-BED ED") in subjects with severe obesity (BMI> 35) consulting for medical or surgical management in a General Hospital Center CSO (Specialized Obesity Center) using an adapted version of the QEWP-R, called the QEWP-RA.
