The Influence of Simple, Low-Cost Chemistry Intervention Videos: A Randomized Trial of Children's Preferences for Sugar-Sweetened Beverages

Sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) consumption is associated with the development of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and dental caries. The current study attempts to explore whether an educational, science-based intervention is able to produce a measurable negative change in preferences for sugar-sweetened beverages, as well as initiate plans to reduce future SSB consumption in 12-year old children. In the first condition (SSB Intervention), participants will watch a video showing the decay of an egg in various SSBs (Coca-Cola, Sprite, Gatorade, and apple juice), followed by the evaporation of these beverages over a heat source, revealing their sugar content. In the second condition (Water Intervention), participants will watch a video showing an egg maintaining its shell in water, followed by the evaporation of water. In the third condition (Control), participants will watch a video of an egg maintaining its shell in rubbing alcohol, followed by the evaporation of rubbing alcohol. Before and after watching their assigned video, participants will complete survey questions to assess self-reported: SSB consumption intentions, attitudes toward SSBs, and health perceptions of SSBs. Therefore, the aims of this study are to (1) quantify changes in SSB consumption intentions, attitudes towards SSBs, and health perceptions of SSBs from pre-video to post-video, (2) establish the effectiveness of the SSB Intervention and Water Intervention over the control, (3) establish the effectiveness of the SSB Intervention over the Water Intervention, (4) determine the efficacy of incorporating scientific evidence in a public health intervention, and (5) make recommendations for the future application of the method employed in this intervention to future public health campaigns.

A Research Study to Investigate How Well NNC0165-1875 in Combination With Semaglutide Works in People With Obesity

The study is looking at a new medicine to help people lose weight. In this study participants will either get semaglutide and NNC0165-1875 or semaglutide and a "dummy" medicine (placebo). Which treatment participants get is decided by chance. Participants will get 2 injections per week, on the same day. Participants will have to take the study medicine by use of a pre-filled pen. A pen is a medical tool with a needle used for injections under the skin. The study doctor or staff will show participants how. The study will last for about 26 weeks. Participants will have 17 visits at the clinic with the study doctor. At 4 of the clinic visits participants cannot eat and drink (water is allowed until 2 hours prior to the visit) for 8 hours before the visit.Women: Women cannot take part if pregnant, breast-feeding or plan to become pregnant during the study period. Women who are able to become pregnant can participate if they agree to use contraception during the study.

Impact of Beans and Oats Snack Bar on Hypertriglyceridemic Women

Hypertriglyceridemia is a serious condition in the Mexican population and it is considered a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Current efforts to prevent dyslipidemia and lipids alteration include the development of functional products as an alternative for the management of hypertriglyceridemia. Common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) are a recognized good source of bioactive compounds, mainly phenolic compounds, total dietary fiber (insoluble and soluble fiber, resistant starch and oligosaccharides), saponins, and phytosterols that exert hypolipidemic effects. In this sense, the development of beans-based food products is an alternative for improving the general health status. In previous work, a beans-oats snack bar formulation was found to be a promising potential functional product. In order to validate those results, the aim of this works was to assess a clinical trial was conducted with Mexican women to assess the effect of daily consumption of the functional product on serum triglycerides and certain plasma proteins involved in lipids metabolism in a clinical trial. The clinical trial was 2 months, randomized parallel study where 32 women with elevated triglycerides were randomized into the treatment group and control group. The Control group received nutritional orientation whereas the treatment group received the orientation and consumed 50 g of the product per day. Fasting blood samples were collected at baseline and the end of the study, obtaining serum and plasma for analysis of lipids profile, glucose, and biomarkers. To determine changes in plasma proteins, a 182 protein Human Obesity Antibody Array was used, and the results were analyzed using a bioinformatic-based analysis from Ingenuity Pathways Analysis (QIAGEN)

Outcome of Gastric Fundus and Pylorus Botulinum Toxin A Injection

Newly, botulinum toxin A application into the stomach has been proposed as a treatment method in obesity. It impacts through acetylcholine receptors located in smooth muscle cells and suppresses stomach motility. This method aims to decrease gastric emptying time and thus to extend the duration of feeling full. This effect of intragastric botulinum toxin A injection (GBI) makes it easier to adhere to dietary prescriptions, which is the cornerstone of any obesity treatment method. Endoscopic inspections and the complicatedness in literature results, cases that have not succeeded in losing weight after GBI might have pylorus contractility problems. Any deterioration in pylorus activity is recognized to have the potential to influence gastric emptying. In such a case, gastric emptying time would also be altered due to the paralysis of pylorus muscles, which is one of the effect mechanisms of botulinum toxin A. The pyloric orifice structure may have a crucial role in the success or failure of GBI therapy for obesity treatment.

Sympathetic Activation in Obesity

The primary objective of this study is to determine whether sympathetic nervous system (SNS) activity in white adipose tissue (WAT) and brown adipose tissue (BAT), skeletal muscle and brain is altered in individuals with obesity in comparison to individuals with normal weight. Simultaneous multi-organ SNS activation will be obtained with a radiotracer for norepinephrine transporter (NET) for whole-body Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging and microneurography (peroneal muscle SNS activity). The secondary objectives of this study are: 1) to evaluate whether gender differences affect peripheral SNS in healthy normal weight and obese men and women in adipose tissue (WAT and BAT) and muscle (resting/fasting); 2) To investigate the relationship between peripheral and central SNS activity in obesity, by correlating SNS activity in peripheral tissues (WAT, BAT, and muscle) and brain; and 3) To investigate NET CNS and peripheral SNS activity before and after a high carbohydrate mixed meal in lean and obese men and women.
