Education to Decrease in Sodium Intake Evaluated With 24 Hour Urinary Sodium Excretion (RCT)

WHO identifies as an important risk factor and potentially modifiable to high sodium intake (>2g/day 5g salt/day). Also, an insufficient consumption of potassium ( 3.5 g/day).Therefore, the results of this research could be the regional basis that is required to generate evidence, that designs strategies and recommendations for the prevention or decrease in the progression of high blood pressure. The reduction in the consumption of salt in the diet could comply with the recommendations established by international agencies. In addition, to favor the beginning of lifestyle changes, as well as other modifications that will have a positive impact on health.In population highly vulnerable to the campaigns of large industries that favor the consumption of processed food. However, it is unknown what is the effect of reducing foods high in sodium in populations in different regions of Mexico, estimated by 24 hour urine sodium excretion. Therefore, the present study aims to answer the following questions: What impact does an intervention aimed at the decrease in sodium intake, in young university students on blood pressure and the quantification of the excretion of sodium and urinary potassium of 24h? What is the association between body mass index, blood pressure and sodium reduction in the intervention vs control group? To assess the impact of an intervention aimed at reducing sodium intake through education as general recommendations for limiting specific foods high in sodium, in university students on blood pressure and quantification of urinary sodium and potassium excretion of 24h. Specific objectives Assess sodium intake between the intervention group and the control group by estimating 24-hour urinary sodium excretion. secundary objectives Evaluate the effect between the intervention group and the control group on blood pressure. To assess the levels of potassium excretion in the intervention and control groups. To evaluate the association between body mass index, blood pressure and sodium reduction in the intervention and control groups.

Switching From the Preserved to the Preservative - Free Latanoprost - Timolol FC in Glaucoma Patients With OSD

Glaucoma is a group of chronic eye diseases that are characterized by a progressive optic nerve damage and consequent visual loss. In most cases, it is associated with elevated intraocular pressure. If glaucoma left untreated, complete blindness can occur. Prostaglandin analog- timolol FCs are common glaucoma therapy because these drugs have been shown to effectively lower intraocular pressure (IOP). It is also known that chronic use of preservatives in the drops leads to ocular surface disease (OSD) which can lead to low tolerability of prescribed drops and gaps in the dosing regimen. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether drug preservative elimination results in reduction of OSD symptoms and signs as well as improvement of latanoprost-timolol FC local tolerability in the treatment of glaucoma and ocular hypertension. In this trial, on each visit (V1, V2 and V3) following tests will be used: Snellen visual acuity, IOP measurement by Goldman applanation tonometry, OSD signs assessment on the slit lamp (corneal and conjunctival fluorescein surface staining, conjunctival hyperemia and tear film stability assessment using Tear Break- up Time test - TBUT). Visual Analog Scale (VAS) will be used for a subjective assessment of drug tolerability. The association of quality of life and dry eye symptoms in participants will be measured by the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) questionnaire.

A First-in-Human Study to Assess the Safety and Tolerability of PDNO

This is a first-in-human, single-blind, placebo-controlled, single-centre study designed to assess the safety and tolerability of PDNO in healthy male and female subjects. In addition, the exposure of 1,2 propanediol (PD) will be evaluated. There are 2 parts to the study: Part I: single ascending dose (SAD), 7 cohorts, 30 minutes intravenous (i.v.) infusion of placebo followed by 1-hour i.v. infusion of PDNO to assess safety, tolerability and PD exposure in healthy male and female subjects. Part II: ascending doses of PDNO in 2 cohorts, 30 minutes i.v. infusion of placebo followed by 3 ascending doses of PDNO in cohort 1 and 3 ascending doses of PDNO in cohort 2. The first 2 doses in each cohort will be i.v. infused for 30 minutes whereas the last will be i.v. infused for 3 hours to assess safety, tolerability and PD exposure in healthy male and female subjects. If indicated by emerging data and recommended by the internal safety review committee (iSRC), 2 additional dose groups/cohorts (4+4 subjects) may be added to Part I and 1 dose group/cohort (4 subjects) may be added to Part II.

Microbiota Transplant Therapy for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension: Early Safety and Feasibility Study

This pilot clinical trial will evaluate the initial safety and feasibility of intestinal microbiota transplantation (IMT) in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). This trial will inform development of future trials in treatment of PAH. Active drug in capsule form composed of freeze-dried, encapsulated intestinal microbiota from healthy donors will be administered to patients with PAH. This study will also allow for limited evaluation of pharmacokinetics in terms of donor microbiota engraftment and pharmacodynamics in terms of potential mechanisms. It will also allow for limited evaluation of cardiac endurance and function prior to and after IMT.

This study aims to decrease elevated pressure in the lungs of patients with pulmonary hypertension from left heart with elevated pulmonary vascular resistance by utilizing aggressive fluid management with ReDS Pro System and CardioMEMS device. Participants with persistently elevated pulmonary pressure at Week 16 will begin oral treprostinil in combination with the fluid management plan while those with improved pressures maintain their fluid management plan for an additional 16 weeks.

Olive Polyphenols in Cardiovascular Prevention

The aim of this study is to evaluate whether the use of a commercially available standardized olive extract (Tensiofytol®) in individuals with elevated blood pressure 1. Leads to a clinically relevant reduction of blood pressure on the short term, 2. Leads to a clinically relevant reduction of cholesterol levels, especially LDL, 3. Leads to a change in oxidative stress biomarkers. Participants will be stratified by sex before randomization to one of the three treatments for 8 weeks: - Tensiofytol: 100 mg oleuropein and 20 mg hydroxytyrosol per day - Placebo All treatments have an identical shape and color and should be used in the same way (oral intake; 3 capsules/day during dinner). No dietary instructions are given and participants are asked not to change their dietary habits, nor to start other therapies (medication, supplements, slimming diets, extra physical activity, etc.) during their study period. Standardized questionnaires are used to obtain information on demographics, dietary habits and side effects. At baseline and after 8 weeks, 27 ml blood is drawn for various biological analyses, and blood pressure, BMI and waist circumference are measured.
