Filter by:The purpose of this study is to gather information to develop a heart failure screening and prevention program.
All patients enrolled in the Austrian LifeVest Registry will be retrospectively screened for successfully completed ambulatory or stationary rehabilitation program. Baseline characteristics, complete rehab data, outcomes and follow up data, as well as wearable cardioverter defibrillator(WCD)-derived data will be collected from these patients. Specifically, performance data from the start of the exercise training (ET) will be compared to the end of ET; including type of training, exertion, time and duration will be collected. In addition, WCD recorded data such as automatically and manually recorded ECGs, compliance, and TRENDS data will be collected.
This study designed is compare the pulse response to the Valsalva maneuver between a photoplethysmography sensor (PPG) and non-invasive blood pressure sensor for the purpose of validating the PPG methodology in deriving a value for the Valsalva pulse response. The aim is to show that the PPG method captures the same phase responses as the blood pressure monitor and the primary outcome is the correlation between pulse amplitude ratios for the pulse at the end of the Valsalva to an average baseline pulse.
Sufficient muscle strength helps to get out of a chair and can prevent falls. Up to 30% of older adults experience age-related loss of muscle strength, which can lead to frailty and health instability. Exercise helps to build muscle, maintain bone density and prevent chronic disease, especially during the aging process. However, more than 75% of Canadian adults ≥18 years of age are not meeting physical activity guidelines. In addition, it is known that malnutrition, including low protein intake, may lead to poor physical function. While there are services to support exercise and nutrition, barriers to implementing them persist. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the potential for physical inactivity, malnutrition, and loneliness among older adults, especially those with pre-existing health or mobility impairments. Now and in future, alternate ways to promote exercise and proper nutrition to the most vulnerable are needed. The investigators propose to adapt MoveStrong, an 8-week education program combining functional and balance training with strategies to increase protein intake. The program was co-developed with patient advocates, Osteoporosis Canada, the YMCA, Community Support Connections and others. MoveStrong was delivered by telephone or web conference to older adults in their homes, using mailed program instructions, 1-on-1 training sessions through Physitrack®, as well as online nutrition Q&A sessions and group discussion sessions over Microsoft® Teams. The primary aim of this study was to assess feasibility and acceptability of a remote model as determined by recruitment (≥ 25 people in 3 months), retention (≥80%), adherence of (70%) and participant experience.
In patients discharged following heart failure treatment, the consistency of blood volume status and components over time is unknown. The primary objective is to describe the rate of change, if any, of the plasma volume and red blood cell volume following hospitalization and discharge of patients with heart failure.
Heart failure (HF) is a common and progressive condition associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Only 25-35% of patients survive 5 years after diagnosis.Sleep disorders are frequently found in this population with up to 94% of patients complaining of sleep disorders. Of these, insomnia and sleep disorders are the most common. The frequency of restless legs syndrome (RLS) varies between 4 and 40% depending on the studies. Patients with HF frequently experience poor sleep quality which is associated with deterioration in quality of life, alertness, and mood. Few studies have examined the prognostic impact of sleep disturbances in this population. A greater morbidity and mortality is observed in the event of poor quality sleep or in the presence of sleep breathing disorders . The investigators therefore propose to evaluate the sleep disorders of patients with HF by self-administered questionnaires, hypothesizing that complaints of poor sleep are linked to a poorer cardiovascular prognosis.
CASTLE-HTx will determine if AF ablation has beneficial effects on mortality in patients with end stage HF who are eligible for HTx
The E-LUS study is a prospective, non randomised, monocenter case-control study. The main objective is to evaluate the association of exercise lung ultrasound data acquired during a stress test on a bicycle ergometer with the diagnosis of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF).
Background: Clinical heart failure patients always suffering from (1) worsen symptoms such as decreased activity tolerance, end-to-end breathing and excessive body fluid volume; (2) high medical expenses results from hospitalization; (3) reduced quality of life . In 2018, following instruction from National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA), the National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) undertook National Health Insurance post-acute care program, PAC in charge of heart failure patients by multi-disciplinary integrated to reduce acute exacerbations(AE), control symptoms, improve quality of life and increase survival rate.
Heart failure (HF) is a complex clinical syndrome characterized by inability of the heart to pump an adequate amount of blood. Heart failure affects patients' ability to carry out even simple activities of daily living and therefore has negative psychological impact. Many studies reported that depression is prevalent among HF patients and it is being associated with high morbidity, mortality and costs. The European Society of Cardiology guidelines stresses the importance of routine depression screening with a validated questionnaire and initiating treatment for depression for all depressed HF patients and their access to psychological treatment. The community heart failure nurses provide the integrated heart failure service in the local area of Southwark and Lambeth in South London. The aim of the integrated heart failure team in the community is to provide the HF treatment effectively, help patients understand and manage their symptoms and support with lifestyle changes. Even though, the community HF nurses have extensive role in managing HF patients in the community, their role in assessing anxiety and depression; and providing psychological treatment needs to be further explored. Therefore, there is a need to assess the process by which community HF nurses assess and manage anxiety and depression. This current study builds on our recent systematic review which illustrated how cognitive behaviour therapy is effective at improving depressive symptoms in HF, but more studies are needed to build on these findings. The findings from this review will be used to examine the perspectives on assessing, managing and treating depression and anxiety in HF patients. In this current study, an online focus group with community heart failure nurses and qualitative telephone/online interviews with community-based HF patients will be undertaken to explore their views and experiences in managing depression and anxiety; and to assess whether COMPASS a web-based intervention would be useful. Also, this study will explore the impact of COVID-19 on the psychological wellbeing of community-based HF patients.
