Filter by:This is a substudy to a randomised trial investigating the effect of liraglutide on body weight and pain in overweight or obese patients with knee osteoarthritis (NCT02905864). In the parent trial, patients will be subjected to an 8-week diet intervention phase including a low-calorie diet and dietetic counseling, after which patients will be randomised to receive either liraglutide 3 mg or liraglutide 3 mg placebo as an add-on to dietetic guidance on re-introducing regular foods and a focus on continued motivation to engage in a healthy lifestyle. This substudy aims to investigate any changes in the carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) assessed by ultrasound in relation to an initial 8-week weight loss intervention.
This study will compare two energy reduced diets; one diet will include one Haas avocado/day while the other diet will follow the usual American dietary pattern. All subjects will receive a dietary plan that reduces their usual intake by 500kcal/day with the same percentage of fat, protein and carbohydrates. The results from this study may help to explain if eating one Haas avocado/day can achieve at least equivalent weight loss when compared to the usual American diet.

This is an open label study to prospectively evaluate the effect of adjunct use of Aripiprazole, as an agent to improve metabolic profile and induce weight loss in patients established on atypical antipsychotics (Olanzapine, Clozapine and Risperidone).
Time restricted feeding (TRF) is a novel form of intermittent fasting that involves confining the period of food intake to 8 h/d (e.g. 10 am to 6 pm) without calorie counting. TRF is effective for weight loss and cardio-protection in obese adults. It is of great interest to see whether subjects can adhere to TRF for longer periods of time, and to see what degree of weight loss that can be achieved with TRF. Accordingly, the aims of this trial are: Aim 1: To determine if TRF can be implemented to facilitate weight loss in obese adults, and Aim 2: To determine if TRF can produce clinically meaningful reductions in plasma lipids, blood pressure, insulin resistance, and inflammatory markers.
This pilot clinical trial studies the side effects and best dose of metformin hydrochloride and ritonavir in treating patients with multiple myeloma or chronic lymphocytic leukemia that has returned after a period of improvement or has not responded to treatment. Metformin hydrochloride and ritonavir may stop the growth of cancer cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth.

The primary objective of this pilot study is to determine the effect of weight loss on a wide range of biomarkers associated with risk of breast cancer recurrence in overweight and obese breast cancer survivors. We hypothesized that weight loss would result in a statistically significant improvement in biomarkers associated with risk of breast cancer recurrence.
This study try to identify differences in length of operation, weight loss and complications, between two different bariatric surgical techniques, the laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and the laparoscopic Roux-en-Y banded gastric bypass. The study will be conducted in a Spanish public health system hospital. The patients of the trial will have the preoperative studies, hospital treatment during the admission, postoperative treatment and follow up as any other patient included in the hospital bariatric surgery program. The study cases will have placed around the gastric pouch a band of polypropylene mesh, and will be randomly choose between the participants. Patients will be randomized in a 5/3 (study/control) ratio.
