NCT ID: NCT04809129 Suspended - Obesity Clinical Trials

Testing the Gravitostat in Humans: the Impact of a Weighted Vest in Patients Post Bariatric Surgery on Fat-free Mass Retention and Weight Loss

Start date: April 8, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The mechanisms regulating fat mass homeostasis are incompletely understood although recent animal and human trials would suggest that there is a leptin independent regulatory pathway which may play a role in weight control and maintenance. Although evidence would suggest that external loading in patients with obesity may promote body weight loss, this has not been explored in patients following bariatric surgery. The aim of this study is to investigate the mechanisms regulating weight loss and the potential role of the 'gravitostat' in fat free mass retention in patients following bariatric surgery.

NCT ID: NCT04490356 Suspended - Clinical trials for Weight Loss Maintenance

Enhancing Physical Function in the Long-term for Older Adults

Start date: April 26, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The intervention being studied is a 12-week nutrition and physical activity intervention, delivered using videoconference technology by registered dietitian clinicians to maintain weight loss and functional gains in older adults who successfully completed a weight loss intervention. The "Legacy Intervention" will include cognitive behavioral strategies (e.g., goal setting, self-monitoring, and social support), and draw upon a toolbox of e-approaches, including daily and weekly text reminders, virtual exercise classes, virtual individual and group nutrition classes, and step tracking device.

NCT ID: NCT04224727 Suspended - Smoking Cessation Clinical Trials

The Impact of Group Commitment Contracts on Smoking Cessation and Weight Loss

Start date: December 18, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

We will conduct a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the effectiveness of group commitment contracts for smoking cessation and weight loss.

NCT ID: NCT02935478 Suspended - Obesity Clinical Trials

Bariatric Embolization of Arteries in Obese Patients With HCC to Allow Salvage Liver Transplantation

Start date: October 18, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary malignant liver tumor and has a grave prognosis. Obesity is an epidemic in the US.Patients with HCC and obesity are not candidates for liver transplantation, depriving them of the best option for cure from HCC. Recent studies have shown that blocking blood vessels to a particular portion of the stomach (bariatric or left gastric artery embolization) can temporarily decrease levels of the appetite inducing hormone ghrelin, and result in weight loss. The purpose of this study is to determine if Left gastric artery embolization (LGAE) in patients with cirrhosis and HCC who are not transplant candidates due to morbid obesity, leads to clinically significant weight loss with eligibility for liver transplantation.

NCT ID: NCT00243984 Suspended - Clinical trials for Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2

Efficacy of Topiramate for Weight Loss in Subjects With Metabolic Syndrome

Start date: March 2005
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of topiramate compared to placebo in the treatment of obesity in metabolic syndrome. Secondary objectives include topiramate and weight loss effects on lipid levels, HbA1C, insulin resistance, and blood pressure.
