QL Block in Laparoscopic Myomectomy

Start date: August 1, 2024
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

This study aims to determine the efficacy of a quadratus lumborum (QL) block in decreasing postoperative pain in patients undergoing myomectomy for uterine fibroids. A QL block is a temporary anesthetic injection in the quadratus lumborum muscle, a muscle in the lower back, that has been previously shown to significantly reduce postoperative pain levels in patients undergoing abdominal and pelvic surgery. Because of its demonstrated effects, the QL block is becoming a standard of anesthesia and surgical care. Since participants will be undergoing a myomectomy procedure, the investigators believe that participants may qualify to participate in this study. The investigators will be comparing patients who receive the QL block (in addition to standard anesthesia and postoperative pain care) with patients who do not receive the QL block (in addition to standard care). The participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two groups and may or may not actually receive the block.

NCT ID: NCT05979376 Completed - Pain, Postoperative Clinical Trials

Efficacy of Dexmedetomidine as an Adjuvant to Quadratus Lumborum Block

Start date: December 1, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational

This prospective double blinded study will be conducted over 60 pediatric patients ASA (American Association of Anesthesiologists) I and II between the age of 1-7 years old, who will be scheduled for unilateral groin surgery. Patients will be randomly allocated into 3 study groups: Control group that only received local anesthetics ( bupivacaine) Group II bupivacaine with the dexmetedomidine ( 0,5mcg/kg ) and group III bupivacaine with the dexmedetomidine (1mcg/kg).Patients in all groups will receive quadratus lumborum block. Bradycardia, hypotension, atropine, and bolus fluid infusion requirements will be recorded. When there was up to a 30% decrease in basal mean blood pressure, a crystalloid infusion bolus will be given at 10 ml/kg. When bradycardia occurred , atropine will be given at a dose of 0.02 mg/kg. Patients will be followed up in the postoperative recovery unit for the first 2 hours, and then in the ward. The RAMSEY sedation scale and WATCHA agitation scale were evaluated at 5, 15, 30, and 60 minutes in the postoperative recovery unit. Nausea, vomiting, and other side effects were recorded if present. Time to first analgesic requirement ( primary outcome) , FLACC Scale scores will be recorded within 24h postoperatively, total dose of analgesic consumption, incidence of postoperative complications as hypotension, bradycardia, vomiting, pruritis and respiratory depression will be recorded.

NCT ID: NCT05975385 Recruiting - Pain, Postoperative Clinical Trials

Acupuncture for Prevention of Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting After Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

Start date: October 9, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose is to find out if intraoperative acupuncture performed by needling PC 6 and LI4 point bilaterally, and Yin Tang point will help reduce the incidence postoperative nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy when added to a prophylactic regimen consisting of ondansetron and dexamethasone. The hypothesis is that the addition of this acupuncture treatment to ondansetron and dexamethasone given for prophylaxis will help reduce the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy when compared to patients receiving ondansetron and dexamethasone without acupuncture.

NCT ID: NCT05974748 Completed - Post-operative Pain Clinical Trials

Role of Propolis Endodontic Irrigant on Post-Operative Pain

Start date: April 1, 2023
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this clinical trial is to compare propolis and sodium hypochlorite as endodontic irrigants in patients presenting with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. . The main question it aims to answer is: • if there is any analgesic effects of 20% Propolis compared with 5.25% NaOCl on the intensity of post-operative pain in patients with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis using VAS pain score. Participants will undergo root canal treatment of their teeth using either 20% propolis solution or 5.25% NaOCl in their first visit of a multi-visit root canal treatment. Researchers will compare 20% Propolis and 5.25% NaOCl to see reduction in Intensity of Post-Operative Pain using visual analogue scale over 72 hour duration.

Pre vs Post Block in Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA)

Start date: September 29, 2023
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this project is to determine if a change in patient reported pain, nausea and vomiting after total knee arthroplasty can be observed with the substitution of a post operative adductor canal block for a preoperative adductor canal block in the current established peri-operative pain protocol and if these changes lead to a decrease in opioid consumption (in morphine equivalents).

NCT ID: NCT05974423 Enrolling by invitation - Opioid Use Clinical Trials

Randomized Trial of Narcotic vs Non-Narcotic Pain Modulation After Labrum Repair

Start date: December 16, 2022
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine if patients age 15 to 30 years old being treated for shoulder labrum repair and SLAP lesions have significant differences in pain levels postoperatively when treated with a combination therapy of ibuprofen, and acetaminophen compared to oxycodone. Participants will be randomly placed into either the control arm and receive scripts for non-narcotic medications (Tylenol and Ibuprofen) and opioids, or the experimental arm of the study. receiving only a prescription for the non-narcotic medications. Every patient will receive a preoperative Exparel nerve block as is the standard of care for this procedure. Both groups will fill out a pain journal for 14 days following surgery and complete a pill count at the first postoperative visit to validate the amount of pain medication documented in the pain journal.

Investigation of the Effect of Distention Medium Temperature on Image Quality, Hyponatremia Risk, and Post-operative Pain in Operative Hysteroscopy

Start date: September 1, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Minimally invasive applications are seen as the gold standard in today's gynecology practice and are frequently preferred by both patients and physicians. Less pain, shorter hospital stays, and better cosmetic results brought about by minimally invasive applications further increase their preference. One of these approaches is hysteroscopic interventions. Although hysteroscopy is a well-defined method, current research has focused on further reduction of pain. One of these methods is to warm the distention media at body temperature. theTaim of this study was to examine the effect of distention medium temperature on image quality, hyponatremia risk, and post-operative pain in operative hysteroscopy.
