NCT ID: NCT05153083 Suspended - Aneurysm Clinical Trials

Cryoablation of Intercostal Nerves for Better Control of Postoperative Pain After Thoracic and Thoracoabdominal Open Surgery

Start date: December 31, 2024
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The purpose of the registry is to evaluate the peri-operative and short- term outcomes of intercostal nerves cryoablation for post-operative pain control after open thoracic and thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms repair. The cryoablation procedure is one of the opportunities for pain control after thoracotomy. So, it is routinely performed in major several centers in aortic surgery around the world as a part of the TAA and TAAA procedure. The Registry will include approximately 200 patients treated from January 2022 to January 2024 for thoracic or thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm by means of open surgery and in whom intraoperative intercostal nerves cryoablation will be performed; to reach 200 patients, the enrolments can be extended until January 2027.

Efficacy of Two Local Anesthetics on Quality of Life After Endodontic Treatment

B-OHIP14
Start date: July 29, 2019
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

In this randomized controlled double-blinded study, subjects will be assigned to one of two study groups to either be anesthetized with Bupivacaine or Lidocaine prior to needed treatment of pulpectomy/endodontic debridement on a symptomatic tooth. Subjects' oral health related quality of life and postoperative pain resolution, pain medication use and numbness will be compared in two study groups.

A Phase I Dose-escalation Study of a Single Administration of Extended-Release Injectable Suspension (ND-340)

Start date: October 15, 2020
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

This study focused on ND-340 extended release injection suspension for patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty with a one-time nerve blockade to assess drug side effects, pharmacokinetics and the effect of pain relief after surgery.

NCT ID: NCT04254692 Suspended - Postoperative Pain Clinical Trials

Optimizing Recovery in Abdominoplasty

Start date: January 5, 2021
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

The overall purpose of this study is to evaluate the analgesic efficacy of liposomal bupivacaine in optimizing pain control, minimizing the risk of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV), and improving recovery after abdominoplasty. This will be done by comparing intraoperative abdominal wall and incisional injection of bupivacaine to bupivacaine plus liposomal bupivacaine in 46 participants 18 years and older undergoing elective abdominoplasty. This will be studied using pain assessments, validated surveys, medication logs and review of medical records.

The Effect of Melatonin on Postoperative Pain Reduction After Orthognathic Surgery

Start date: October 2022
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

Orthognathic surgery is a procedure performed to correct dentofacial deformities. It involves osteotomy at the facial skeleton. Considerable pain is expected in the early recovery period. Melatonin is a hormone that is produced naturally by the body. Synthetic Melatonin is available over the counter for the management of sleeping disorder and jetlag. Clinically, Melatonin can also be used to reduce pain and analgesic consumption in patients undergoing surgery. Dexamethasone is a type of steroid. It can suppress the inflammatory response. It is an anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic drug. It is commonly used in head and neck and oral surgery for its anti-inflammatory effect to reduce swelling. This study aims evaluate the efficacy of oral melatonin in the pain reduction following orthognathic surgery. This is a double-blinded randomized controlled trial. We will recruit 87 patients who are scheduled for double-jaw orthognathic surgery to participate in this three-year study. The study lasts for 2 weeks. Participant will be randomly allocated by computer to one of the three groups. (1) Group D will receive dexamethasone only; (2) Group M will receive melatonin only; and (3) Group DM both melatonin and dexamethasone. Postoperative pain level and perioperative plasma levels of inflammatory markers and anti-oxidizing enzymes will be recorded and compared among the study groups.

NCT ID: NCT03806335 Suspended - Post Operative Pain Clinical Trials

The Effectiveness of Local Infiltration Technique in Adult Tonsillectomy

Start date: January 7, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Tonsillectomy is commonly associated with postoperative pain. The modified pre-incision infiltration of anesthetic mixture combined with general anesthesia was shown to decrease post-tonsillectomy pain in children. Hence, the present clinical trial will assess the effectiveness of this technique in adults undergoing tonsillectomy.

NCT ID: NCT03801616 Suspended - Pain, Postoperative Clinical Trials

Virtual Reality After Breast Reconstruction Surgery

VR4BR
Start date: January 1, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This is a pilot study of virtual reality (VR) non-opioid management for women undergoing mastectomy and implant-based reconstruction. Study participants will receive specialized VR interventions, administered via VR headsets, to manage pain.

NCT ID: NCT02104349 Suspended - Pain, Postoperative Clinical Trials

Mindfulness Meditation for Spine Surgery Pain

Start date: February 1, 2014
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of mindfulness meditation technique on post-operative pain of spine surgery subjects. Subjects will participate in a 6-week mindfulness meditation program, beginning two weeks prior to spine surgery. The investigators are interested in determining if this intervention improves the ability to tolerate pain and reduces anxiety, thus reducing the need for prescribed analgesics and narcotics. The meditation intervention will be compared against a control group consisting of subjects that will undergo music therapy during the same period of time.

Traumeel S for Reduction of Post Operative Pain Following Arthroscopy

Start date: January 2011
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The perception of pain is a complex process that is not yet fully understood. With outpatient knee arthroscopy becoming standard of care, postoperative pain management has become increasingly important in caring for patients. Traumeel S is a homeopathic complex widely used in German-speaking Europe for orthopedic pain and inflammation. It contains a mixture of medicinal plants and minerals, all highly diluted. In some recent studies, Traumeel has shown anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity. In this study, the efficacy of Traumeel S will be compared with placebo in reducing pain during the first 48 hours after arthroscopy. Also compared will be 6 day pain levels, analgesic consumption, quality of life, post operative knee function, quadriceps atrophy and safety. The study design is double blind RCT. 98 patients, aged 18-40 and undergoing arthroscopic meniscectomy or chondroplasty will be enrolled in the trial. Patients will be randomized to receive either intraoperative join irrigation with Traumeel S and oral treatment with Traumeel S, or placebo irrigation and oral ingestion. Patients will continue to take active or placebo medication for 6 days. Pain will be recorded daily by the patient in the patient diary using an 11-point numerical rating score (NRS-11. Patients will also record daily consumption of primary and "rescue" analgesics. Range of motion (RoM) will be measured on days 6 and 30 post-operatively, and the Lysholm knee scale and circumference of thigh above patella will be measured at 30 days. All these measures will be compared with baseline. Patients will be contacted daily by the research assistant to encourage compliance and to record their daily NRS and analgesic consumption in the CRF.
