Filter by:HIV prevalence among incarcerated youth living with HIV (YWH) is three times that of the general population and one in seven of all persons with HIV experience incarceration each year. Furthermore, less than half of all youth in the United States with HIV achieve HIV viral load suppression, due to poor retention and adherence to anti-retroviral therapy (ART). Existing linkage and retention services are insufficient to meet the acute needs of youth with HIV who are at risk for incarceration, recently experienced incarceration or arrest, or those nearing reentry from a correctional facility. This holds particularly true in the high-need period following release from incarceration. The LINK2 study will develop and implement a youth service navigation (YSN) intervention to improve linkage and retention among YWH at risk for incarceration and with current incarceration and arrest histories and analyze results to address existing gaps in the literature. The investigators will enroll 142 YWH, aged 16-25 (+364 days), incarcerated in Los Angeles and Chicago jails and through community providers serving those at risk for incarceration and YWH with recent incarceration and arrest histories. The investigators will randomize participants to the YSN intervention (n=71) vs. a usual-care control group (n=71). The youth services navigators (YSNs) will assist with addressing immediate unmet needs such as housing, transportation, and food prior to clinical care and ongoing; will guide intervention participants to a range of community services to support progress along the continuum of HIV care; and will provide direct ART adherence support. The proposed study has two Primary Specific Aims: 1. Adapt an existing peer navigation intervention for adults to create a Youth Service Navigation (YSN) intervention sensitive to sexual and gender minority (SGM) culture that guides youth to needed services along the continuum of HIV care. This intervention combines medical, substance use and mental health care with comprehensive reentry support for YWH, aged 16-25 (+364 days) upon release from large county jails and juvenile detention systems or with arrests in the prior 12 months and those at risk for incarceration based on various social determinants. 2. Using a two-group RCT design, the investigators will test the effectiveness of the new YSN, youth SGM-sensitive intervention among YLWH aged 16-25 (+364 days), compared to controls offered standard of care. The investigators will evaluate the YSN Intervention's effect on post-incarceration linkage, retention, adherence, and viral suppression, as well as on substance use disorders, mental health, services utilization, and met needs. Secondary Aims: The investigators will assess YSN's effects on recidivism, costs and potential cost-offset/effectiveness.
Despite increasing knowledge about and use of PrEP nationally, HIV continues to have disproportionate impact among cisgender men and transgender persons who have sex with men and transgender persons (MSM/TG), with methamphetamine (meth)-users being at particularly high risk. Building on their preliminary work, the investigators will pilot text messaging and peer navigation interventions to support PrEP use among meth-using MSM/TG with potential to be cost-effective, scalable, and easily adaptable.
STRIDE2 is a longitudinal, non-randomized study of individuals living with HIV who are dependent on opioids. This study is funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (R01DA030768, Altice, PI; Taxman & Lawson, Co-PIs) and is being conducted by George Mason University, Yale University, and Howard University.
Background: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is a serious disease with no cure. Some people with HIV have depression and other mood problems. They can have problems with thinking and memory. Researchers think 2 chemicals in the brain may cause those problems. The chemicals are serotonin and dopamine. The researchers want to take images to learn more about those chemicals in HIV patients. Objective: To learn how HIV affects serotonin and dopamine in the brain. Eligibility: Adults ages 18-70 with HIV who have been on antiretroviral treatment for at least 1 year Healthy adults ages 18-70 All participants must be already enrolled in protocol 13-N-0149. Design: - Participants will be screened with a urine drug test. The results could be shared with insurance companies. - Participants who could be pregnant will have a pregnancy test. - Participants may have a physical exam and blood tests. - Participants will have 1 or 2 positron emission tomography (PET) scans. A needle will guide a thin plastic tube (catheter) into an arm vein. A radioactive drug will be injected into the plastic tube. This is a tracer that helps researchers understand the PET images. - Participants who have the dopamine scan will have to fast for 4-6 hours before the scan. They will take a pill to help direct the tracer to the brain one hour before the scan. - Each scan will last about 1.5 hours. - Participants will be asked to drink a lot of fluids and empty their bladder frequently for the rest of the day after each scan.
The project will evaluate cost and treatment outcomes of a simplified hepatitis C virus (HCV) testing, treatment and care model integrated with HIV testing and treatment among key affected populations including people who inject drugs (PWID) in Myanmar.
The proposed study aims to develop an intervention that is strategic in that it will 1) be a focused on an approach that combines an in-person session with post-session, two-way text messaging to continue the intervention and reinforce the gains from the in-person session and 2) ultimately find HIV+ Black men who have sex with men who have left HIV care where they are likely to present (e.g., city and county health clinics, community-based organizations, emergency rooms).
HIV cannot be eliminated and remains in the body despite the treatment that is used for HIV-infection called antiretroviral treatment (ART). Individuals undergoing ART interruption rapidly experience virus rebound in the blood. The current alternative therapeutic strategies to antiretroviral treatment have the aim to achieve the elimination of the virus in blood in the absence of ART. New drugs associated to ART that allow the elimination of the virus in the blood after ART withdrawn are needed. In monkeys infected with SIV, the analog of HIV, the virus has disappeared from the blood after administration of a compound and cessation of ART. There is an equivalent compound in humans called Vedolizumab. The aim of the present study is to research if Vedolizumab combined with ART, in subjects without previous ART, is able to eliminate the virus from the blood after ART is not taken.
The purpose of this study is to describe the effectiveness of Darunavir/ Cobicistat/ Emtricitabine/ Tenofovir Alafenamide (D/C/F/TAF), measured as virological response at Week 48 as per Food and Drug Administration (FDA) snapshot algorithm through collection of daily practice data in the Italian setting.
YMHP is a counseling intervention program for which the goals are to better understand HIV-prevention focused self-management behaviors among HIV-negative YMSM, and to study the implementation of YMHP to improve portability and scalability. The clinic sites will help investigators to assess and address practical problems at the frontline of service provision to pave the way for a comprehensive program to reduce HIV infection among YMSM that reflects the complexities of real world adolescent HIV clinics.
This is a first time in human (FTIH), 2-period study, to assess the relative bioavailability of a mesylate salt capsule of GSK3640254, compared to a bis- hydrochloride salt capsule of GSK3640254, in healthy subjects, administered following a moderate calorie and fat meal. The subjects will be randomized to 2 sequences, Regimen AB or Regimen BA. For Regimen AB: The Regimen A, which will include oral administration of GSK3640254 bis-hydrochloride Capsule 200 milligram (mg) (reference), which will be administered, in Period 1 and Regimen B will include GSK3640254 Mesylate salt capsule (test), 200 mg, which will be administered in Period 2. For the regimen BA, the regimen B, will be administered, in Period 1 and regimen A, in Period 2. Each of the regimens will be given orally as 2 capsules in the morning, as per randomization sequence. There will be a minimum washout of 7 days between each dose of study treatment. A total, of 14 subjects, are planned to be enrolled in the study. The maximum duration of the study from screening to follow-up is approximately 7 weeks.
