Retrospective Observational Analysis of a Cohort With Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction

Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is a complex condition with various causes that is not yet fully understood. Most significantly there is no single method of diagnosing or treating the condition. Recently a novel non-invasive diagnostic criterion to predict the likelihood of HFpEF was proposed called H2FPEF. The main limitation of this study was the use of a single centre population from the Mayo clinic in Rochester, US. Another limitation is that the H2FPEF diagnostic criterion consists of common and often co-existing conditions which could as a result overestimate HFpEF probability. The aim of the investigators is to retrospectively test the H2FPEF criteria on the population at Queen Alexandra Hospital (QAH) in Portsmouth, which is of a lower socio-economic status and greater ethnic diversity. Implications of the proposed project if H2FPEF is proved to be generalizable to the study population is that it can be used within the Trust and rolled out to others. This would allow diagnosis to be made quicker and more cost effectively using echocardiography and without the need for invasive cardiac catheterisation. On the other hand if H2FPEF is found not to be applicable to the population then further research would be required to find the ideal diagnostic tool.

Effects of a Self-regulation Program on Self-care Behaviour of Heart Failure Patients

The following hypothesis was tested: Heart failure patients who receive the self-regulation program will report significant improvements in self-care behaviours after four weeks of the self-regulation programme. In contrast, patients in the control group showed no significant differences.

The Cardiorenal Syndrome during Acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) with persistent congestion despite high dose IV diuretic therapy is associated with remarkable morbidity, which can include the need for renal dialysis or ultrafiltration, an increased length of stay, and high mortality rates. The aims and purpose of this feasibility clinical research trial are: 1. to evaluate the safety profiles associated with performing negative pressure diuresis for the treatment of hypervolemia associated with the cardiorenal syndrome during ADHF with persistent congestion despite high dose IV diuretic therapy via the investigational JuxtaFlow® System, and 2. to evaluate the effectiveness of the investigational JuxtaFlow System in treatment of hypervolemia associated with ADHF.

Evaluation on Performance and Oxydative Stress in Patient With Iron deficIency and Stable Heart Failure Study

ERADAL-HF is a double blinded, multi-centre, prospective, randomized, three arm study, enrolled ambulatory patients with chronic heart failure [New York Heart Association (NYHA) class II/III], with iron deficiency [defined as ferritin <100 ng/mL, or ferritin 100-300 ng/mL if transferrin saturation (TSAT) <20%] and haemoglobin (Hb) < 15 g/dL. Patients were randomized 1:1:1 to treatment into three arms: a first group treated with intravenous iron supplementation, a second treated by intramuscular iron supplementation and the third one which have received placebo. These patients were followed-up during a period of 04 weeks. The aim of this study is to assess the short term effect of parenteral iron supplementation on exercise tolerance and oxidative stress in patients with stable chronic heart failure and iron deficiency

The aim of this study is to compare the effectiveness of multiple modalities of cardiac resynchronisation therapy using high precision acute electrical and haemodynamic measurements.These modalities include biventricular pacing and conduction system pacing utilising His bundle and left bundle pacing. Conduction system pacing is a more physiological form of pacing. The study hypothesises that this will produce more effective cardiac resynchronisation.

Study of JK07 in Subjects With Heart Failure With Reduced Ejection Fraction (HFrEF)

This is a Phase 1, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, single-ascending dose study to assess the safety, tolerability, immunogenicity, PK, and exploratory efficacy of JK07 in subjects 18 to 80 years of age with HFrEF ≤40%. Initially 5 cohorts are planned with the option to expand the study to a total of 7 cohorts. The size of the cohorts will range from 5 to 9 subjects. Each cohort will include one single active unblinded sentinel subject receiving a single IV dose of JK07 prior to randomized single dose administration of JK07 or placebo [3:1] in the remainder of the cohort.
