This new study will help find out what effects, semaglutide has on people who take the drug and the drug's effect on physical function, body composition, and aging.
This is a pilot study of daily dosing of NUV001 as a dietary supplement in 12 sickle cell disease patients with 3 months of follow-up plus 1 month after supplementation.The present study is designed to evaluate, first, the safety and tolerability parameters as well as to measure the plasma and urinary residues of daily oral doses of NUV001. Secondly, the study will evaluate the impact of NUV001 on biological parameters and quality of life of patients.
Knee surgeries are associated with severe postoperative pain. Improper pain management affects patients' psychological status with prolongation of hospital stay time and rehabilitation period, with the possibility of progression of the acute pain to chronic pain (McCartney CJ, Nelligan K., 2014). Many Pain management options following these surgeries are available: non-opioid analgesics, opioids and regional anesthesia techniques (epidural and peripheral nerve block). Multi-modal analgesia is considered the best option for pain management in knee surgeries. As non-opioid analgesics alone are not effective enough while opioids alone are associated with many risk factors: nausea, vomiting, decrease intestinal motility and respiratory depression with possibility of addiction (Goode VM, Morgan B, et al, 2019)
Intersectional stigma and medical mistrust are prevalent among Black and Latina/Latino Americans living with HIV and are key contributors to racial/ethnic health disparities; yet, there are no evidence-based provider-level interventions available for HIV care providers to address intersectional stigma and medical mistrust with patients. The investigators propose to develop an online provider intervention, with community stakeholders' input, that provides psychoeducation and skills-building around addressing intersectional stigma and medical mistrust with patients. The investigators will conduct a pilot randomized controlled trial with 60 HIV care physicians (30/condition) to test the acceptability and feasibility of the online intervention and to determine preliminary effects (against a no-intervention control group) on providers' use of skills and HIV care delivery outcomes at baseline, immediate post, and 6-month follow-up.

The goal of this study is to compare the diagnostic yield in terms of cellular content and biochemical characteristics of pre-aspiration agitated pleural fluid versus that of conventionally aspirated fluid in pleural infection patients. The hypothesis is that the agitated fluid would be more representative and thus may aid the diagnosis of non-infected exudative pleural effusions.
This randomized crossover study compares gastric residual volume after ingestion of carbohydrate drinks and water in obese volunteers. The main question[s] it aims to answer are: - Is it safe for obese patients to shorten their fasting by allowing preoperative drinks? - How long is the gastric emptying time in obese patients? Participants also will be evaluated the level of thirst/hungry and blood sugar.
This prospective double blinded randomized study aims to compare the effect of inhaled versus intravenous milrinone on the pulmonary vascular resistance in patients undergoing mitral valve replacement surgery. The primary outcome is to determine change in pulmonary artery pressure. The secondary outcomes include, - Incidence of systemic hypotension. - Hemodynamic affection and need of vasopressors and inotropes. - Change in pulmonary vascular resistance versus systemic vascular resistance. - Right ventricular function. - Duration of mechanical ventilation. - Need for mechanical circulatory support devices. - Urine output - Length of intensive care (ICU) in stay. As the investigators hypothesize that inhaled milrinone has a selective pulmonary vasodilator effect devoid of the systemic hypotension with the intravenous administration.
The goal of this observational study is to perform an in vivo feasibility study using real time (3D) ultrasound based vector flow imaging in 10 AAA patients (5 with intraluminal thrombus and 5 without intraluminal thrombus). Furthermore, the investigators will investigate the added value of contrast microbubbles in these high framerate, plane wave ultrasound measurements. Included patients will undergo ultrasound scanning of their AAA, using multiple ultrasound sequences. Sequences will be tested with and without the addition of ultrasound contrast microbubbles.
