Nowadays, multiple treatment modalities have been applied clinically to treat striae gravidarum, such as laser therapy, microdermabrasion, platelet-rich plasma injection(PRP), etc. To some extent, these treatments can improve striae gravidarum. In this clinical trial, the investigators are going to treat striae gravidarum by using two different kinds of combination therapies. One is fractional laser and PRP injection synergy, and the other one is treated by nanofat grafting with PRP injection.
Fruit and vegetables are a cornerstone of healthy dietary patterns and dietary guidelines worldwide. The supporting evidence, however, is largely derived from observational studies of protective associations with cardiovascular disease (CVD) in health-conscious populations or from randomized trials of the effect of specific fruit or vegetable derived nutrients on CVD risk factors. A growing body of literature has influenced a shift away from a focus on single nutrients to a focus on whole foods and dietary patterns. To what extent fruit and vegetables should contribute to dietary patterns for cardiovascular health and whether specific types of fruit or vegetables should be recommended is unclear. Although previous systematic reviews and meta-analyses have elucidated the association between the intake of total and some specific fruit and vegetables with cardiovascular outcomes, a comprehensive synthesis comparing the certainty of the evidence for the different types of fruit and vegetables in relation to a range of cardiovascular outcomes has yet to be completed. We propose to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of the available prospective cohort studies using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) approach to assess the association between different types of fruit and vegetables and different cardiovascular outcomes that include CVD, coronary heart disease [CHD], and stroke incidence and mortality.
To investigate the treatment related effects of transoral robotic surgery (TORS) or oncological treatment of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma with a 1-year follow up.
This study will evaluate the cost-effectiveness of unplanned dialysis (peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis) in chronic kidney disease (CKD) during the first year of therapy in a single center.
This project compares two methods of assessing the quality of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) that do not involve directly observing sessions: 1) adherence checklists embedded in clinical notes, and 2) rating the quality of worksheets that are completed with therapist guidance during sessions. It also examines whether ratings of worksheets completed on a mobile app are reliable and valid quality measures. This information can inform strategies to monitor and enhance CBT quality, which can ultimately improve the quality of care and clinical outcomes.
This trial aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of third-line or later irinotecan treatment for locally recurrent or metastatic breast cancer among Chinese patients who have received at least two regimens containing anthracyclines and taxanes.
Background: Given the complexity of this problem, psychiatric in-patients in the acute stage of their disease need different types of therapeutic programs to recover they mental health state. Usually they're submitted to systematic biological programs (namely psychopharmaceuticals), often considered a priority when compared to psychosocial programs. Among the different therapies that have been introduced in this context "art therapy", also named creative therapy, can constitute a treatment that complements the allopathic treatments, providing improvements in self-esteem and self-efficiency, distraction and relief from concerns and negative thoughts. Scientific evidence on the effects of psychosocial programs in the context of hospitalization of acute cases is scarce. Aims: a) evaluate the effectiveness of a 3 session program of "art therapy" in changing emotional indicators, namely depression, anxiety, stress, and psychological well-being, in individuals with mental illness; b) analyze the meanings a person attributes to his creative self-expression. Method: This is a pre-experimental, prospective study, with a pre test-post test design without control group, with a mixed approach (quantitative and qualitative). The study was performed in the psychiatry unit (Psiquiatria B), in the Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra - Portugal. The target population was composed by men (older than 18), hospitalized in this ward. The exclusion criteria were: individuals with active psychotic symptomology, in manic phase and/or refusing to participate. The instruments used to collect information were: Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale [DASS-21]; Ryff Scales of Psychological Well-Being (SPWB - 18 item version) and a semi-structured interview. Data collection and the development of this study occurred in the following manner: - Initial evaluation to verify the sample selection criteria in the first 48 hours after patient hospitalization; - Obtain informed consent for the application of instruments and participation in the "art therapy" intervention program; - Application of instruments (DASS-21 and SPWB-18 item version) before intervention; - Development of the program applied as a group, during three weeks, one session a week, each lasting approximately 90 minutes and assisted by a specialist in plastic expression. Each session was held in an occupational therapy room, including all the material deemed necessary for the execution of some of the techniques introduced by the technician. After each session, a semi-structured interview was conducted with each participant in order to analyze the meanings attributed. - In the end of the program, the same instruments were reapplied.
Spinal cord stimulation by means of an electrode in the back is used to treat patients with persistent chronic pain after back surgery. Based on the stimulation patterns, there are mainly three different technologies available - conventional, burst frequency and the high frequency. It is known that the traditional frequency works through the lateral system of pain pathways in the spinal cord to cause pain reduction. Electroencephalographic(tracing of brain activity) recording of patients using burst have shown an additional effect on an adjacent medial pain pathway which decreases the attention to pain. We want to therefore find out if high frequency stimulation also has an effect on the same pathways. 20 patients who have persistent neuropathic chronic pain after previous spinal surgery, would be eligible to have this treatment as part of their normal care. They will be randomly chosen to undergo a 2 week cycle of high frequency and 2 weeks of burst stimulation. We will record EEG's, pain scores and scores measuring attention to pain and compare findings. All patients will be recruited at the Leeds Pain and Neuromodulaton centre and the EEg analysis will be done by a research team based in Belgium. We hope that the study will improve our understanding of how different stimuation waveforms used for spinal cord stimulation work. We hope to have recruited all 20 patients in a 12 month period.
Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) are a group of clonal hematologic malignancies with great variation in reported patient life expectancy and are characterized by a relatively indolent course which can be complicated by thromboembolic events and transformation to acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The MPNs in the 2016 World Health Organization (WHO) classification of myeloid neoplasms consist of polycythemia vera (PV), essential thrombocythemia (ET), primary myelofibrosis (PMF) including prefibrotic/early stage and over fibrotic stage, chronic myeloid leukemia, other (rare) disorders such as chronic neutrophilic leukemia and chronic eosinophilic leukemia and MPN unclassifiable (MPN-U). The prevalence and genetic characteristics of patients with MPNs in Taiwan are still unknown. Molecular tests which are required for the diagnosis of MPNs are not available in many hospitals which hamper the accurate diagnosis and subtype classification of MPNs. Moreover, the information of current therapeutic strategy for MPNs in most medical centers in Taiwan is also not available. The purpose of this MPN registry is to collect clinical data, molecular characteristics, treatment details and response to therapy, occurrence of complications during the course, disease progression to secondary myelofibrosis from PV or ET and secondary AML (sAML) transformation as well as survival. The clinical and molecular data including the high molecular risk (HMR) genes will be examined and correlated with treatment outcomes in Taiwanese MPN patients. The Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital-Linkou is a College of American Pathologists (CAP)-accredited lab which provides high quality of molecular genetic tests for hematologic malignancies. The three driver gene mutations are the major criteria for the diagnosis of MPN, the methodologies of mutational analyses have been well set up for the clinical use in this lab. In addition, this lab is also equipped with facilities for the detection of mutated genes which were recently identified as HRM category (presence of any of ASXL1, EZH2, SRSF2, IDH1 or IDH2), and mutations of other epigenetic regulators or splicing factors.
