Filter by:The aim of this study to determine the effect of hot showers on postpartum fatigue, mood and comfort in women giving vaginal birth. 136 women, who were between 6 and 12 hours postpartum, were assigned to intervention and control groups by computer randomization. Visual Similarity Scale for Fatigue, Visual Analogue Scale, Postpartum Comfort Questionnaire and Brief Mood Insight Scale were used to collect data. The women in the intervention group were allowed to take a shower in a standing position at a water temperature of 37-41°C for 10-20 minutes. In the control group, routine care was provided.
Health professionals are extremely exposed to psychosocial risks, as they experience, in general, high levels of stress, anxiety, fatigue and suffering, due to the nature and location of their work. As a result, the health and well being of these professionals can be significantly compromised. In outbreaks of serious infectious diseases and pandemics, these risks become amplified and the health team is at greater risk of falling ill, presenting changes in mental health and psychological trauma, while caring for infected patients and becoming potential contaminants in their family and community. The objective is to study the mental health of professionals who work in Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs) in Brazil, during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The primary outcome will be the prevalence of burnout in the team involved with the care of critically ill children. Secondary outcomes such as anxiety, depression, quality of professional life, compassionate fatigue and post-traumatic stress disorder will be measured. Possible associations between demographic, work and coping variables (social support and resilience) with mental and emotional health outcomes will be investigated, in an exploratory character. It is a multicenter, observational, longitudinal study, with a descriptive and exploratory analytical component. Data collection will be carried out through an electronic survey during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

This project expects to enroll 200 cancer patients and their subjective-objective measurements on fatigue, stress, symptoms, and total steps will be validated so that the information can be used in further care and improvement of life of quality of the patients.
The SARS-CoV2 pandemic has kept the world in suspense for over a year now. Almost 100 million people around the world have contracted COVID-19 to date and over 2 million people have died of COVID-19 by the end of January 2021. Despite the tragedy of these deaths, it must be pointed out at this point that the number of COVID-19 survivors is significantly larger. These COVID-19 survivors are now the focus of interest in rehabilitation measures, as it has been shown that survival of the disease does not go hand in hand with a complete cure. Thirty-five percent of all COVID-19 survivors and 87% of the COVID-19 survivors who were hospitalized in the course of their illness suffer from after-effects that are currently summarized as post-COVID fatigue syndrome also known as "Long-COVID". As health care workers are at higher risk of contracting SARS CoV2 and furthermore, considering their central role in the overcoming of this pandemic, a COVID-19 rehabilitation program for healthcare workers of the Medical University of Vienna, Austria as well as the General Hospital of Vienna, Austria - together the second-largest university-clinic in the world - was developed as part of workplace health promotion. Nowadays, the fatigue syndrome is primarily known as a side effect of cancer treatment and thus from the rehabilitation of cancer patients. Cancer-related fatigue is a massive limiting side effect for patients and the currently most effective treatment strategy against cancer-associated fatigue syndrome is physical training. The idea for this current project is, that physical exercise might have similar effects on post-SARS-CoV2 fatigue as it has on cancer-related fatigue. The current study evaluates the effects of this primarily exercise-based rehabilitation program on Long-COVID fatigue.

Parkinson's Disease (PD) has generally been thought of as a movement disorder however other health-related symptoms, known as non-motor symptoms, are also very common. Non-motor symptoms can be very broad and present in numerous conditions, making identifying the symptoms of early-stage Parkinson's disease very difficult. Non-motor symptoms, including fatigue, and problems with sleep and mood, can happen decades before motor symptoms and have a greater impact on quality of life and psychological wellbeing. Despite this treatment options for non-motor symptoms are limited and therefore the development and testing of new treatments is a main priority. Due to the limited treatments options available, self-management of symptoms through positive lifestyle changes is a warranted area of research. The perspectives amongst patients, caregivers, and HCP's regarding lifestyle behavior change and its impact on fatigue and related non-motor symptoms has yet to be investigated in detail. This study includes two stages: telephone interviews and online consensus workshops. Patients with PD whom have experience of fatigue, partners/caregivers and Healthcare professionals will be able to participate in interviews only, workshops only or both. The interviews will investigate patients, partners/caregivers and Healthcare Professionals views and priorities of lifestyle factors in the management of non-motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease as well as identifying factors that influence lifestyle changes amongst PD patients. Stage 2 will involve small consensus workshops to generate ideas and feedback related to the design and content of the soon-to be developed lifestyle program. Results from both stages of this study will be used to help develop and design a lifestyle management program for fatigue and associated non-motor symptoms in Parkinson's Disease.
Even though, current treatments including IVIG, corticosteroids, biological agents can provide positive effects on MS symptoms, MS cannot be cured completely today. Therefore, in addition to the available medical treatment options, patients may tend towards complementary and integrative therapies. Relaxation techniques are one of the non-pharmacological and side-effect-free therapy options that are currently used to alleviate the symptoms of many different chronic diseases. Progressive muscle relaxation exercise (PMR) and Benson relaxation technique (BRT) are two common types of relaxation techniques recommended for symptom management in chronic diseases owing to simple to learn and apply compared to other complementary and integrative methods for patients. PMR is uncomplicated and low-cost method, originally designed by Jacobson (1938), which helps individuals to feel calmer through consecutive muscle tension and relaxation of a muscle group. This method can relieve muscle tension, facilitate sleep, and reduce severity of pain and fatigue. There are studies in the literature reporting the positive effects of PMR on fatigue, sleep quality, quality of life, anxiety and stress in MS patients. One of these techniques which is well tolerated is BRT, designed by Herbert Benson in the 1970s as a nonpharmacologic and behavioral method. This technique led to relaxation using mental imagery and mediation. BRT creates a relaxation influence in the body by decreasing the sympathetic nervous system activity and increasing the parasympathetic nervous system activity. There are few studies in the literature reporting that BRT is beneficial on pain and fatigue in MS patients.To the best of our knowledge, there is no study on the impact of relaxation techniques on pain, fatigue and kinesophobia in MS patients. The aim of this study was to examine and compare the effects of PMR and BRT on abovementioned symptoms in MS patients.
Objective: Sympathetic activity starts to increase during exercise. At the end of the exercise, while sympathetic activation decreases, parasympathetic activity increases. Sympathetic and parasympathetic excursions achieve homeostasis. Most of the parasympathetic activity effects are vagus code. It is aimed to compare the comparison of exercise and vagus therapy in these healthy individuals.
This study is a single blind, randomized parallel controlled experimental study planned to determine the effect of distant reiki, which is one of the non-pharmacological methods, on fatigue and comfort level in hemodialysis patients. The hypothesis of the study is that distant reiki increases patients comfort and reduces fatigue.
