Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This experimental trial is investigating the use of magnetic stimulation of the brain as a possible treatment for people with post-stroke fatigue. Fatigue is a common condition after a stroke and can negatively impact an individual's ability to perform desired social and physical activities. Magnetic stimulation of the brain has been shown to improve signs and symptoms of related psychological (e.g., depression) conditions. Participants in this trial will receive a type of magnetic stimulation called repetitive magnetic stimulation, or rTMS. The investigators will measure feelings of fatigue, and other clinical characteristics related to mood and cognition, before and after participants receive rTMS.

NCT ID: NCT05582759 Completed - Prostate Cancer Clinical Trials

Sleep Hygiene Education, ReadiWatchTM Actigraphy, and Telehealth Cognitive Behavioral Training for Insomnia Effect, on Symptom Relief for Men With Prostate Cancer Receiving Androgen Deprivation Therapy

SHERE-Relief 2
Start date: October 24, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Many treatments for prostate cancer can cause significant fatigue and/or problems with memory and concentration. Many treatments for prostate cancer also result in disturbed sleep. Improving sleep may reduce feelings of fatigue and improve memory and concentration. The purpose of this study is to test a wearable device that provides real-time feedback on sleep patterns, instruction on how to improve sleep, and a score that indicates periods of time when fatigue and issues with memory and concentration may be most troublesome. The study also is designed to test a type of treatment (cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia, CBT-I) that is helpful for people who are experiencing disturbed sleep.

Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The objective of the present study is to confirm and map out the presence of interindividual differences in the effect of mental fatigue on both physical and cognitive performance, and to see if these differences are related to individual factors of the participants.

NCT ID: NCT05573867 Recruiting - Treatment Clinical Trials

Digital Coaching With" Physical Activity on Prescription ( FaR) to Increase Physical Activity and Reduce Post Stroke Fatigue

Start date: June 12, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Stroke is the leading cause in the world considering disabilities and approximately half of the patient population experience post stroke fatigue (PSF). PSF affects the patients level of activity and their quality of life. Even patients with mild stroke claim that PSF is one of the main reasons hindering them from being physically active. People suffering from stroke generally have lower physical capacity compared to healthy individuals of the same age and they are spending more time in sedentary. Physical inactivity is considered to be one of the main modifiable risk factors for stroke. There is strong evidence that physical activity will improve health and reduce the risk of future strokes. Evaluation of interventions to reduce PSF is a prioritized research field since it is currently lacking evidence. There is a possibility that physical training can have a positive effect on PSF. Digital alternatives to on-site visits will increase the availability and can strengthen the patients independence which is according to the government and Sveriges Kommuner och Regioner ( SKR) common vision for e-health. The aim of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of individualized, digital coaching twice a week for 12 weeks with "Physical activity on prescription" (FaR) to increase physical activity and reduce PSF after stroke.

NCT ID: NCT05571007 Completed - Clinical trials for End-stage Renal Disease

Effect of Acupressure on Fatigue in Hemodialysis Patients

Start date: July 1, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of acupressure on fatigue in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing hemodialysis (HD) as well as assess sleep quality and psychological status HYPOTHESIS TO BE TESTED: Upon intervention completion, the experimental group will exhibit lower severity of fatigue and depression/anxiety and improved sleep quality compared to the control group. DESIGN AND SUBJECTS: A randomized controlled trial with experimental and control groups. A total of 116 patients with ESRD who screen positive for fatigue severity ≥ 4 (using a single-item indicator of fatigue, which ranges from 0 to 10 points) will be recruited. STUDY INSTRUMENTS: Brief Fatigue Inventory (BFI), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) INTERVENTION: A 4-week acupressure intervention was performed by the principal investigator (PI) for every subject by applying the rate of two rotations per second, three times a week. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Primary: fatigue. Secondary: sleep quality, depression, and anxiety. DATA ANALYSIS: Multiple regression was used to analyze between-group differences in BFI and PSQI, while ordinal logistic regression was used to analyze the subscales of the HADS. EXPECTED RESULTS: The proposed acupressure intervention is useful for alleviating fatigue and related symptoms (sleep quality, depression, and anxiety) experienced by patients with ESRD.

NCT ID: NCT05567653 Recruiting - Fatigue Clinical Trials

Effects of Probiotics on Gut Microbiota, Endocannabinoid and Immune Activation and Symptoms of Fatigue in Dancers

Start date: September 21, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The aim of the planned research is to assess the dynamics of changes in the elements of the gut-brain axis (GBA), the cytokine profile and the endocannabinoid system markers, after dietary supplementation with probiotics Lactobacillus helveticus Rosell-52 and Bifidobacterium longum Rosell-175 by professional dancers. Although in recent years there has been growing interest in the influence of the gut microbiota on the body's adaptation to stress stimuli and on overall health, there is a lack of information on the influence of probiotics on systems involved in maintaining neuropsychiatric balance, such as the endocannabinoid system. In order to determine the validity of the applied therapy with selective probiotics, the following will be assessed: intestinal bacteria and bacterial metabolites in the stool, cannabinoids and cannabinoid receptors and enzymes in the blood, indicators of mental distress in the blood, cytokines responsible for the modulation of the gut-brain axis in the blood, as well as questionnaires regarding the functioning of the digestive tract, fatigue, stress and sleep quality. The study will involve active dancers of the Polish Theater in Poznan, the Polish Dance Theater, the Private School of Dance Art in Poznan and students of the Academy of Physical Education in the field of Dance. Dancers are a group of athletes that is exposed to particular injuries and work-overload. Professional dancers spend multiple hours a week on intensive physical training. The largest percentage of injuries occurring in the group of professional dancers are chronic injuries, including: inflammation of soft tissues, muscle strains and tears. Professional dance is one of the most physically demanding forms of physical activity, and at the same time it is associated with a high burden on the nervous system problems caused by performances in front of an audience or subjective jury, frequent traveling and disturbances in the circadian rhythm.
