This study will examine the effects of lithium aspartate 30-45mg/day on MRI biomarkers and blood-based therapeutic targets among 15 early-stage Parkinson's disease patients.
This is a randomized quality improvement project to evaluate the impact of an audit and feedback intervention to motivate pharmacists to provide heart failure (HF) medication management to patients in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Sierra Pacific region (VISN 21). The results of this project could provide guidance for how to successfully scale a pharmacist-based HF remote management program in the VHA more broadly. Pharmacists providing clinical care as part of Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) within VHA VISN 21 will be included. Pharmacists will be randomized to one of 3 arms in a 1:1:2 ratio: (1) monthly audit and feedback of HF medication titration activities (AF) vs. (2) educational resources and monthly notification of HF medication titration actions in addition to a list of potential patients for HF optimization (AF+) vs. (3) usual care without audit and feedback (UC). Pharmacists across all three arms will be given access to shared educational resources on HF pharmacist care and educational webinars. Six months after the intervention, rates of pharmacist HF medication titration encounters will be compared among the 3 groups.
The purpose of this study is to compare two interventions currently used to improve gait and lower limb function in individuals with chronic stroke (i.e., high-intensity gait training and high-intensity gait training with functional electrical stimulation (FES)) with novel interventions based on the coordinated activity of multiple muscles, known as muscle synergies. To this end, the researchers will recruit chronic stroke patients to participate in training protocols according to the currently used rehabilitation programs as well as novel rehabilitation programs that provide real time feedback of muscle synergies using multichannel FES and visual feedback.
Since the "National Partnership to Improve Dementia Care" debuted in 2012, almost all long-stay psychoactive prescribing has been graded by CMS, which has correlated to decreased use. However, some national data suggest that while these psychoactive medications are being used less, prescriptions of mood-stabilizing antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) have increased. Unlike all other psychoactive medications, AEDs prescribed in nursing homes are not mandatorily reported to CMS or graded in a quality-measure.
The goal of this exploratory n-of-1-study is to compare markers of metabolism in infants with intestinal failure between two lighting environments. Investigators are seeking to learn whether supplementing the lighting environment of infants with intestinal failure with blue and violet wavelengths of light will allow more efficient utilization of the nutrition provided to participants by influencing hormones involved in regulation of growth and development as compared to a conventional lighting environment. Pre-clinical studies suggest that violet and blue wavelengths of light are involved in molecular pathways that help regulate metabolic activity.
The purpose of the study is to determine whether community-dwelling older adults with probable sarcopenia (muscle loss) will experience improved patient-reported outcomes and physical performance after completing an 8-week multicomponent exercise training program when compared to a control group who does not complete the intervention. As an additional aim, subjects who participate in the exercise intervention will be asked about their experiences to identify factors that contribute to positive health behaviors in community-dwelling older adults.
The purpose of this project is to collect body samples like blood and tissue and health information from people receiving immune-based treatment for cancer. The body samples and health information will be stored for future research to understand more about side effects related to immune-based treatments for cancer.
The goal of this hybrid type 1 effectiveness-implementation study is to evaluate and compare different ways of delivering genetic research results to participants. The main questions the study aims to answer are: - Is sharing actionable genetic research results with participants through a multimedia patient-informed eHealth intervention (e.g. patient portal) no worse than sharing results by telephone or videoconference with a genetic counselor? - Will research participants access an eHealth educational intervention or chatbot education to learn about research results being offered and the option to decline learning their individual research results and how frequently participants choose to decline actionable research results? - Who benefits less and more from digital intervention with return of actionable research results and what barriers exist to using these tools for return of research results outside this study? Participants in the biobank will be offered digital tools to learn about research results being offered and the option to decline receiving these results. Those who don't decline and have an actionable result will be randomly assigned to receive their results with a genetic counselor or through an eHealth portal. Participants will complete surveys before and after receipt of results to understand patient experiences with these methods of education and return of results to determine if digital tools can be used to help ensure more patients get access to research results which could impact their health.
A prospective multicenter longitudinal cohort study of Zimmer Biomet (ZB) Persona IQ The Smart Knee which consists of the Persona Personalized Knee (PPK) System with mymobility® platform that is attempting to develop correlative measures to assist surgeons in understanding and managing risk in their patient populations. Specifically comparing four outcome measures captured via Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM) utilizing the CANARY canturioTM Tibial Extension (CTE) sensors in combination with the mymobility® App. The primary objective of this prospective study is to systematically document the clinical outcomes of the Persona IQ Personalized Knee System with mymobility for primary total knee arthroplasty/replacement (TKA/TKR). This will be accomplished by monitoring subject activity trend patterns via the mymobility platform, evaluating smart system usability, monitoring short and long-term safety and effectiveness, and evaluating the value of the remote therapeutic monitoring platform. Health Care Provider Satisfaction Additionally, a data repository will be maintained for future secondary data analyses when data is transmitted and captured beyond the 1-year of follow-up.
The goal of this observational study is to create and rigorously evaluate a violence intervention and prevention corps (VIP Corps) training using a randomized controlled trial among undergraduate and professional students; and to develop a novel maternal injury surveillance system (MISS) to complement an existing maternal violent death registry in Kentucky.
