Fulfilling Care Needs of Adolescents With Cancer

Start date: August 1, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The aim of phase 1 of this study is to develop a care need scale (CNS) for adolescents with cancer. The aim of phase 2 is to examine the mediating role of care needs between physical and psychosocial dysfunction and QoL, and to explore the recovery trajectory and its predictors regarding the care needs, physical and psychosocial factors, and the QoL of adolescents with cancer at the first, second, and third 3-month periods after initiating on-treatment and off-treatment. The aim of phase 3 is to examine the effectiveness of the computerized assessment with graphic outcome (CAGO) for fulfilling the care needs of adolescents with cancer, its acceptability for adolescents with cancer, and its usability for clinicians in pediatric oncology units.

Retrospective Analysis of Lymphomas and Cancers Synchronous Occurrence in Picardy From 2007 to 2012

LYMPHOSYNCHRO
Start date: August 20, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Cancer is the leading cause of death in man and the second leading cause in women with 85,000 and 63,000 deaths, respectively, in 2012. A working group led by Holly L. Howe, PhD, in 2002 defined primary neoplasia Such as the occurrence and diagnosis of two or more independent neoplasms of different histology in the same patient. The occurrence of a new cancer has become more frequent in recent years: the prevalence of multiple primary neoplasia (NPM) is estimated between 0.73% and 11.7%. According to the French data, the risk of second cancer in people who have already had a first cancer is increased by 36% compared to the general population. Several studies have reported an increase in the risk of cancer after treatment of lymphoma but there are currently no studies on the occurrence of lymphoma and cancer of synchronous occurrence. In our department, 19 patients presented cancer and lymphoma synchronously, that is to say 6 months between 2007 and 2012. The main objective is to show that there is an increase in the incidence of cancers in patients diagnosed for lymphoma synchronously. Secondary objectives are to describe the clinical and biological characteristics of the patients concerned and to formulate hypotheses on the physiopathological mechanisms involved: peri-tumoral B-cell lymphoproliferation, alteration of the immune system or rearrangement of the BCR. In a second step, the investigator could propose a multicenter epidemiological study using data from the different Cancer Registries. If results are confirmed in a larger cohort, recommendations could be made.

Optimization and Improvement of Care Course for 75 Years and Over Patient With Cancer and Living in Nursing Home on the Marseille Agglomeration

ONCO-EHPAD
Start date: April 27, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

According to data from the French National Cancer Institute (INCA), almost one third of the cancers were diagnosed in overs 75 years patients in France in 2008. The elderly patients management is an important part in oncology daily practice. These last years, through the geriatric oncology development, collaboration between oncologists and geriatricians, the anti-cancer management and supportive care for elderly patients has evolved. The assessement of potential fragility helps to determine the cancers appropriate treatment plan. Studies have shown that alterations in geriatric fields, found through Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) are associated with poorer survival, increased risk of chemotherapy severe toxicity and autonomy loss. Nursing home residents have often more frailties and functional problems than living at home elderly resulting in diagnostic and therapeutic cancer delay. In addition, nursing home residents must have appropriate treatment to preserve as much as possible their quality of life. Transversal Onco-Geriatrics Unit (UTOG), Day Hospital (HDJ), External Geriatric Mobile Unit (EMGE) of the Internal Medicine, Geriatric and Therapeutic Department of the Marseille hospital propose to organize a personalized care course for nursing home residents with cancer to minimize the diagnostics delay, facilitate their management in oncology and maintain their quality of life. Elderly patient with suspected cancer is oriented by EMGE to HDJ to realize an oncological and geriatric assessment. Patient would be supported by UTOG and would have access to technical platform. According to his cancer and nursing home location, the nearest reference center would be offered. Treatment or course of action (monitoring, palliative care …) would be decided in onco-geriatric multidisciplinary meeting (RCP) (organized by Onco-Geriatric Coordination Unit UCOG PACA west) and programmed and fast hospitalization would be organized in the reference center. When returning in nursing homes, elderly patient would be revalued by EMGE to continue therapeutic management and personalized care plan. The aim of this management is to allow a shorter hospitalization and maintain the quality of life of frailty patient during cancer treatment.

Treatment Algorithm for Nausea and Vomiting in the Palliative Phase

Start date: January 2017
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Nausea and vomiting are frequently occurring problems in the palliative phase of patients with cancer. Between 20-50% of them regularly suffer from nausea, retching or vomiting. Often the cause of nausea and vomiting is multifactorial and symptomatic treatment is necessary. Potential drugs for symptomatic anti-nausea therapy are metoclopramide, serotonin antagonists, the combination of both and dexamethasone as rescue medication in case of failure. There is no data that depicts which strategy is the best. This study will be conducted to unravel which treatment algorithm is most successful.

Study of Polyfunctionality of Anti-tumor T Lymphocytes in Cancerology: Potential Biomarker for Emerging Immunotherapies

POLYTCANCER
Start date: October 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Purposes of this study are : - Characterization of polyfunctionality of anti-tumor T lymphocytes using in vitro inhibition of PD-1/PDL-1 pathway - Study and comparison of polyfunctionality of anti-tumor T lymphocytes in cohorts of patients with melanoma, lung cancer and renal carcinoma. This cancers are chosen because of use of anti-PD-1 or anti-PDL-1 antibodies - Comparison of this technique with IFN-γ Elispot assay for detection and quantification of anti-tumor T lymphocytes after in vitro blockade of PD-1/PDL-1 pathway.

ROSETTA
Start date: February 2016
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The ROSETTA-trial will evaluate the effect of acupuncture as a complementary treatment parallel to radiation therapy in oncological patients. The trial is designed as a two-armed trial. Depending on the treatment study arm either verum- or Sham sham-acupuncture will be applied. Acupuncture is applied treatment bi-weekly during the first week of radiotherapy, thereafter weekly until the end of radiotherapy; the follow-up visits include clinical workup as well as questionnaires.
