Three-level Network Rehabilitation Model

The objective of this clinical trial was to compare the effects of different interventions on the recovery of stroke patients. The main question it aims to answer are: whether the intervention mode of integrated Chinese and western medicine is more valuable to implement. Researchers randomly assigned 90 patients to either group A or Group B, 45 in each group. Group A adopted the conventional three-level rehabilitation model; Group B adopted the three-level network rehabilitation model under the medical alliance for rehabilitation treatment with combination of Chinese and Western medicine. Fugl-Meyer motor score was used to assess the patient's motor ability, Berg balance scale was used to assess the patient's balance ability, National Institute of Health stroke scale was used to assess the patient's neurological function, and modified Barthel index was used to assess the patient's ability of daily living.

Serious Game Therapy in Neglect Patients

The growing field of new technologies offers new perspectives for neurorehabilitation. Serious games are a promising solution in the rehabilitation of cognitive impairments, and they may be useful in the rehabilitation of unilateral spatial neglect. Investigators developed a rehabilitation program for visual exploration training with a serious game and investigated its efficiency. Twelve patients with unilateral spatial neglect after a right hemispheric stroke were recruited. Six patients assigned to a group received both serious game training and conventional rehabilitation, and after only conventional rehabilitation; and six patients assigned to another group received first conventional rehabilitation and then serious game training and conventional rehabilitation. The investigators compared the two groups after rehabilitation.

360 Degrees Virtual Reality-based Mirror Therapy for Stroke Patients

The goal of this randomized controlled trial is to compare the effects of 360 degree virtual reality-based mirror therapy (360MT) to traditional mirror therapy (TMT) and conventional physical therapy (control group) on upper extremity function among stroke patients. The main questions it aims to answer are: - Would 360MT be more effective when treated for 4 weeks in outcome measure ments including: Fugl-Meyer Assessment for upper extremity (FMA-UE); manual function test (MFT); and box & block test (BBT)? - How would particants' experience be in terms of satisfactory and enjoyment during 360MT? The study will have three groups of participants who will be involved in different tasks: - 360MT group: will receive mirror therapy using a virtual reality device (HMD) and perform tasks with their paralyzed hand. Sessions will last 30 minutes, 3 times a week for 4 weeks. - TMT group: will receive mirror therapy using an acrylic mirror and perform finger, wrist, elbow exercises using their paralyzed limb. Sessions will last 30 minutes, 3 times a week for 4 weeks. - Control group: will receive conventional physical therapy consisting of exercises for the upper extremity, 60 minutes per day, 5 sessions a week, for 4 weeks.

Stroke Patients and Family Longitudinal Study in Rural China

SaFaRI is a large prospective cohort study in Hebei Province, rural Northern China including 1,299 stroke patients and their spouses. Follow-up visits take place from baseline until the fifth year after the baseline survey, investigating the lifestyle and health behavior, disease history, medication and adherence to medication, health status and self-reported health, cognitive function, and medication cost. As additional measures, the investigators will collect information on hospitalization, recurrence, and vital status from county medical insurance system and death record system. Patients will also have a physical examination comprising of assessment of blood pressure, weight, height, waist circumference, neck circumference, grip strength and the "Timed Up and Go" test.

The role of humanoid robot in neuropsychological assessment and conducting cognitive training in patients with dementia and severe brain injury" Objectives Use of robotic solutions to carry out diagnostic and rehabilitation intervention in order to recover cognitive and relational performance of patients with dementia and severe brain injury. Study Design. Observational Materials and Methods. Eighty subjects (25 with mild-moderate dementia and 25 patients with severe brain injury) will be enrolled. Patients will undergo neurological examination with collection of all medical history and information on current clinical condition. After that, they will undergo administration of neuropsychological tests via humanoid robot and two months of cognitive rehabilitation sessions. Inclusion criteria - Over 18 years of age; - Patients with a moderately impaired cognitive profile; - Written consent from the legal guardian or the patient himself/herself. BCI for Hemiparetic Upper Extremities in Patients Due to Stroke

Non-invasive brain-computer interface (BCI) technology is one of the new training approaches to achieve motor restoration through a closed-loop system from brain activity through event-related desynchronization (ERD) after motor imagery (MI) or movement attempt to peripheral feedback triggered by an external hepatic device. Often, it is unclear whether the BCI intervention itself or the assistance of the external device leads to neural responses and functional gains. This study adopts a closed-loop BCI system involving ERD induced by MI. Functional electrical stimulation (FES) and virtual reality (VR) are simultaneously delivered as feedback. The aim is to investigate the efficacy of closed-loop BCI training combined with FES and VR on the recovery of the hemiparetic upper extremity of individuals with chronic stroke. Chronic stroke survivors are being recruited and randomly allocated into 3 groups: (1) BCI-FES-VR - participants look at an external screen displaying the VR avatar participant's arms while performing wrist dorsiflexion MI in random order (left or right). The BCI system detects the ERD of the motor area corresponding to correct MI. Then, visual feedback with the VR and motor-tactile feedback with the discharge of the FES is delivered; (2) BCI-FES - same procedure as group 1, but the difference is that the participant's hands replace the VR system; (3) BCI-VR - same procedure as group 1, but the FES is removed. Each session requires 240 MI trials with a training duration of 10 sessions in a 3-week interval. Motor and MI assessments are being conducted at post-assessment and at a 3-week follow-up. The findings of this study will provide significant new information regarding neurophysiological motor relearning mechanisms, which could inform the development and evaluation of BCI-based treatment for individuals with stroke and impact the field of translational neuroscience.

Reactive Standing Balance Step Training Post Stroke
