Development of an mHealth Tool (ANíMATE) to Assess Self-management, Self-care and Adherence in People With Obesity

This trial main purpose is to develop and test an mHealth app aimed at improving self-management, self-care and adherence of people with obesity. The study population are type I or II obese people, aged more than 18 years old, with or without comorbidities, who have a smartphone or tablet compatible with the app (Android version 9.0 or higher) and access to a scale for regular weight monitoring. Control group will follow standard care protocol and patients in the intervention group will also be provided with the app. Follow-up will be done for 16 weeks. Both groups will attend 3 face-to-face visits (baseline, 2 and 4 months).

The Effect of Exercise in Patients Awaiting Bariatric Surgery

The aim of this project is to understand the impact of a four week preoperative exercise programme on fitness and metabolic rate and weight before surgery and weight after surgery. A single-site randomised trial at UCLH, recruiting patients awaiting bariatric surgery for obesity at UCLH, Whittington Health NHS Trust, or Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The investigators will measure fitness, metabolic rate, body weight/composition and grip strength in all participants, before and after a four-week supervised physical activity intervention. The investigators will also interview participants about their participation in the study in regard to the planning of future studies.

Using Artificial Intelligence to Optimize Delivery of Weight Loss Treatment

Project ReLearn is testing the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of an Artificial Intelligence system for optimizing weight loss coaching. Participants are randomized to a 1-year weekly gold standard behavioral weight loss remote (video) group treatment or the AI-optimized treatment, which is made up of a combination of remote group treatment, short video call and automated message. In the AI-optimized condition, the system monitors outcomes (via wireless scale, mobile phone app, and wristworn tracker) and, each week, assigns each participant the treatments they have responding to the best, within certain time constraints.

Addressing Diabetes by Elevating Access to Nutrition

The goal of ADELANTE is to determine whether a multi-level intervention to improve household food insecurity and glycemic control is effective for Latino patients with diabetes. Specifically, ADELANTE aims to 1. determine whether weekly household food delivery plus an intensive lifestyle intervention is more effective than usual care for improving glycemic control (HbA1c) at 6 months, 2. examine the effects of the multi-level intervention on = household food insecurity, dietary behaviors, and psychosocial outcomes, and 3. assess the future potential for implementation and dissemination of this multi-level intervention in primary care settings.

Prenatal Programming of Childhood Obesity and Cardio Metabolic Disorders

This is a prospective 11-17 -years follow-up of two existing pregnancy cohort (PREDO) and prevention (RADIEL) studies. The main objective is to investigate the associations between maternal overweight, obesity, hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, gestational diabetes, and maternal-fetal metabolome, child's birth outcomes, and overweight and obesity and cardio metabolic health outcomes in childhood and adolescence. During this follow-up study, the mothers and their 11-17-year-old children are invited for a study visit and their cardio metabolic health is studied by many different methods.
