Filter by:The purpose of this study is to determine whether 1 year of supervised exercise training in obese individuals at high risk for developing HF, incorporating high intensity interval training (HIIT) two to three times per week in conjunction with daily oral administration of omega-3 poly-unsaturated fatty acids will lead to reduction in visceral adiposity, regression of myocardial triglyceride levels and improvements in cardiac diastolic and vascular function.
Many kinds of wearable technology have become available, but the superiority of those devices in weight loss compared to the standard care without them is uncertain. The possible problems are long-term self-motivation, utility and validity of the device, and outcome measures in clinical trials. The connected health care with motivational interviewing as an intervention, and body composition parameters in addition to body weight as outcome measures are employed in the project. The expected outcome is that connected health care, which is more individualized approach by heath care professionals, is more effective compared to self-monitoring using wearable devices. Two types of wearable device are going to be used to monitor 1) body activity and 2) heart rate variables during exercise which reflect fitness level in this study in order to investigate appropriate monitoring parameters to predict outcome measures. The hypothesis is that addition of connected health system will result in improvement of body composition and fitness level compared to self-monitoring.
The purpose of this study is to investigate how a high-fructose diet, either by high fructose intake from complex, natural foods or by fortifying the diet with corn syrup, affects the metabolism. Furthermore, it will be investigate if there are differences between obese and normal weight participants.
The aim of this study was to compare the effects of three months' endurance training and three months' endurance-strength training on inflammatory markers in women with abdominal obesity.
Cooking for Health Optimization with Patients (CHOP) is the first known multi-site prospective cohort study with a nested Bayesian adaptive randomized trial in the preventive cardiology field of culinary medicine. It is also the first known longitudinal study to assess the impact of hands-on cooking and nutrition education on patient outcomes, with those classes taught by medical students and other future and current medical professionals who have first been trained in those classes on how to integrate diet and lifestyle counseling of patients with their respective scopes of clinical practice. CHOP is the primary research study of the world's first known medical school based teaching kitchen, The Goldring Center for Culinary Medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine. Medical trainees and professionals are followed in this study long-term to understand how the classes impact their competencies in patient counseling, attitudes about the counseling, and their own diets. Patients who consent to being randomized to these classes compared to standard of care are studied within the nested Bayesian adaptive randomized trial to understand how the classes impact their health outcomes, clinical and food costs, and the costs of health systems caring for these patient populations. CHOP is designed as a pragmatic population health trial to hopefully improve healthcare effectiveness, equity, and cost by establishing an evidence-based, scalable, sustainable model of healthcare intervention targeting the social determinants of health, while complementing the pharmacological and/or surgical management of patients.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of obesity and exercise on periodontal and biochemical parameters [serum, saliva and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) adipokines (interleukin-1β, tumor necrosis factor-α, leptin, resistin and adiponectin)].
Obesity is a common global health problem. A three-arm randomised waitlist-controlled feasibility trial is proposed. A total of 59 subjects (19-21 subjects per arm) will be recruited. The three groups are AA plus smartphone application (experimental group); AA only (comparison group); and Waitlist control group. In the experimental group, seeds will be applied on six specific ear acupoints of the subjects by the researcher. Subjects will be requested to apply pressure on the acupoints thrice per day. They will install a smartphone App which will send out regular reminders for pressing, allow the subjects to input the number of bowel open, compliance rate, and difficulties entered during the process for timely advice. The total treatment period will be 8 weeks. Outcome measures will be conducted at baseline and postintervention at 8 weeks, including obesity and anthropometric index, leptin concentration and adiponectin level. Patient satisfaction towards the therapy, the use of the smartphone application and the implementation of the treatment protocol will be determined.
Background: The Mediterranean Diet (MD) is considered an healthy diet useful in the prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD). High quality extra virgin olive oil (HQ-EVOO, [1]), an essential component of this diet, exerts a protective effect against CVD. Moreover, the gut microbiota (GM) has recently been recognized as a key factor in driving metabolic activities and involved in the stimulation of host immunity [2]. In particular, Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) and their probio-active cellular substances produce beneficial effects in the gastrointestinal tract, thus representing important assets in pathological conditions such as obesity and CVD [3,4]. Objective: The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that 3 months of treatment (MD with 40g/die HQ-EVOO) in 36 subjects (cases: overweight/obese vs controls: normal weight) may change their GM and inflammatory panel.
Background: The foot is considered a sensitive structure of musculoskeletal system that bears significant loads of the body weight during walking. So, the evaluation of the body weights on planter pressure distribution during walking among adult obese subjects is very critical for foot dysfunctions.The aims:To evaluate the planter pressure distribution in normal ,over weight and obese adult during dynamic situation. Subjects and Methods: A one-hundred fifty normal adult (male and female) subjects will be recruited in this study. They will be divided into Group-I: includes 50 normal subjects Group-II: includes 50 of over weight subjects.group-III 50 obese adult subjects The all three groups will be detected according to the individual BMI. The details of the study will be explained to each participant and a consent form was signed by each subject.Each participant should be free from any musculoskeletal or locomotors disorders Conclusion: Results of this study can help physical therapists to understand the foot pressure distribution map for normal , over weight and obese and non-obese subjects to detect any foot abnormalities and detect any causes of foot dysfunctions.
The current pilot study will examine emergent hypotheses by investigating the role of psychological mechanisms in the relationship between food insecurity and obesity. This objective will be achieved via a cross-sectional, observational pilot study collecting quantitative and qualitative data.
