Filter by:CHAT is an internet-based weight loss research program designed for women with overweight or obesity who want to lose weight through dietary change and increased physical activity. Participants will be randomized into a group-based online program who meet via a text chat or a video chat.
In obese patients the superficial adipose tissue works as an endocrine active tissue to express different cytokines, and multiple molecular pathways implied in the cross talking with different part of the human body, such as the cardiovascular system. To date, adipocytes and adipose tissue-derived macrophages and adipose tissue synthesize, and secrete several cytokines, and sirtuins. In this setting, the excess of body fat is linked to heart contractile dysfunction. All these pathways are differently expressed in obese diabetic patients as compared to obese non diabetic patients. Intriguingly, in diabetic obese patients the hyper-expression of inflammatory cytokines is associated to a hypo-expression of sirtuins. Furthermore, microRNAs (miRs) as miR 195 and miR 27 could be implied in the regulation of this complex cellular and molecular axis.Therefore, this molecular pattern in diabetic obese patients may correlate to altered myocardial performance, and to the development of heart failure disease. In this study authors will evaluate at baseline by peripheral blood samples and by the abdominal fat tissue, and than at 12 months of follow-up by perupheral blood analysis, the expression of cytokines sirtuins and miR 195/27 comparing pre-diabetics obese patients vs. non pre-diabetics obese patients.
The study will evaluate the effectiveness of a co-developed exercise referral scheme. Participants will be recruited to one of three groups 1. Co-developed exercise referral scheme, 2. Usual care exercise referral scheme, 3. No treatment control (no intervention). The study will measure effectiveness by observing change in cardiorespiratory fitness at 12 weeks. Intervention cost-effectiveness will also be evaluated at 3 months follow-up using objective physical activity data.

WEE Baby Care is a 6 month intervention that coordinates care across multiple settings- health care clinics and WIC clinics on responsive parenting practices to increase parenting competence thereby preventing infant rapid weight gain. The investigators will recruit mother/infant dyads in Central PA, who participate in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program and receive clinical care from a Geisinger pediatrician participating in this study.
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of using new app-based technology to increase the level of physical activity, compared to conventional postoperative information given to patients undergoing bariatric surgery. The hypothesis is that the intervention, i.e. using the new technology, will have a greater positive effect on levels of physical activity and outcomes of weight loss than conventional postoperative information.
