Filter by:Patients with CAD and diabetes mellitus have a better prognosis than patients with CAD and no diabetes mellitus. In acute coronary syndrome patients with an insulin therapy had a better survival than patients with oral antidiabetics. But there is not known wether perioperative therapy with insulin or oral antidiabetics is associated with higher risk for higher perioperative cardiac morbidity and mortality and worse long-term survival.
Until today it was not possible to reliably assess the function of a new bypass, i.e., to measure myocardial perfusion. Measuring intramyocardial blood flow directly after revascularisation would greatly improve the assessment of graft function. With transthoracic contrast echocardiography, myocardial perfusion can be reliably assessed, as it has been shown in numerous studies. In the first part of the study the investigators will clarify methodological aspects of contrast echocardiography. In the second part they will analyze the validity of contrast TEE in the operating room.
To assess the procedural success, performance, 30-day and 6 month clinical outcome of bifurcation stenting, and the six month incidence of clinically indicated target lesion revascularization with the use of the Abbott Vascular MULTI-LINK FRONTIER Coronary Bifurcation Stent System in patients with de novo or restenotic bifurcation lesions.
The aim of this study is to improve the detection of heart attack in people who come to a hospital emergency room (ER) with cardiac symptoms. We are testing a novel technology that calculates the heart's electrical activity at points all around the upper body torso and develops a map showing areas indicating heart attack. Our hypothesis is that this new body mapping technique will be better than the standard electrocardiogram (ECG) in detecting heart attack.
The purpose of the study is to compare the pictures of heart arteries obtained by MSCT scanner to the pictures obtained during heart catheterization. Our specific question is whether the MSCT scanner is accurate enough to replace heart catheterization in some situations for the evaluation of coronary heart disease.
This was a double-blind randomized trial comparing 1200 mg per day of gemfibrozil with placebo in 2531 men with coronary heart disease, an HDL-C of 40mg/dl or less, an LDL-C of 140 mg/dl or less, and triglycerides of 300mg/dl or less. The primary outcome was nonfatal myocardial infarction(MI) or death from coronary causes. The median follow-up was 5.1 years. There was a risk reduction of 22% in the primary outcome (p=.0006) and 24% risk reduction in the combined endpoint of stroke, MI, and CHD death. The rate of events was reduced by raising HDL-C and lowering triglycerides without lowering LDL-C (N Engl J Med 1999;341:410-418).
The purpose of this study is to compare two types of exercise stress testing to find the best method for detecting heart disease in women.
The purpose of this study is to determine if magnesium can improve blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar control in patients with implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs).
Patients with coronary artery disease have an abnormal cardiac metabolism. The hypothesis of this study is that shifting cardiac metabolism from free fatty acids to glucose will improve myocardial ischemia
We sight to evaluate whether patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) have more epicardial fat than patients without CAD, which would suggest that epicardial fat may be more than an “innocent bystander” and be actively involved in the disease process. Its role as a modulator of vascular response and myocardial function could potentially lead to new areas of cardiac research. We also sight to evaluate whether epicardial fat from patients with CAD releases more adipokines than subcutaneous fat from these patients which could prompt studies into the differential regulation of adipokine secretion in this tissue. Thus for e.g., the use of thiazolidinediones (glitazones), statins, ARBs or other compounds that can specifically modulate adipokine secretion could be explored to determine their benefit in ameliorating the effects attributable to increased epicardial fat.
