The scientific breakthrough related to Undetectable (viral load) = Untransmissible (virus) has had a major impact on motivation to take up and adhere to antiretroviral therapy among people living with HIV all over the world. The aim of the study is to work with MoHCC and other stakeholders to explore whether routine VL testing using DBS can provide sufficiently robust evidence of 'undetectability' to support introduction of U=U messaging in ALHIV. The study will provide scientific evidence on whether routine VL testing using DBS as available in LIC can provide sufficiently robust evidence of 'undetectability' and on the variability of an individual's virological response over 12 months. It will provide contextually orientated evidence to inform U=U messaging which has the potential to change the motivation of ALHIV to engage with their treatment and care.It will also explore responsible ways to disseminate this message to ALHIV living in Zimbabwe, and across the Southern African region.

Using Implementation Science to Increase Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Uptake Among African American Women

Pre-exposure prophylaxis may be a viable option for African American women at-risk for HIV infection, but few studies have identified optimal strategies to reach African American women in need of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis nor examined effective strategies to scale-up Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis among African American women in the South. African American women in the South experience high rates of intimate partner violence which could force women to choose between HIV prevention or intimate partner violence prevention. The proposed research study seeks to develop, pilot-test, and evaluate a Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Implementation Toolkit within two community healthcare clinics located in Jackson, Mississippi to increase Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis uptake among African American, address intimate partner violence as a barrier to Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis uptake, and ultimately combat racial disparities in women's HIV diagnoses.

Mobilizing Social Network Resources for HIV Care Support

The intervention study will recruit 100 out-of-care HIV+ men who have sex with men in online and in community settings located throughout St. Petersburg, Russia. After completing baseline assessments, participants will be randomized to either an individual care counseling (ICC) comparison condition or ICC plus a social support mobilization (SSM) intervention. In each intervention, participants will attend five main and two booster sessions that underscore the benefits of medical care engagement, counter the effects of internalized intersectional stigma and promote resilience, and help participants develop and mobilize social resources supportive of HIV care. Support mobilization will begin by assisting participants develop care-supportive bonds with other group members, friends who are also living with HIV, and connections made with LGBT and other non-governmental organizations. They will also be guided in developing and expanding supportive links with affirmative friends, family members, and other resources. In this way, the intervention will bolster care-related social support resources, resilience, and feelings of self-worth. Assessments administered at baseline will be repeated 6 and 12 months post-intervention, and in-depth followup interviews will be conducted with a subset of 20 participants to elicit feedback about the intervention experience. The study will investigate whether the SSM intervention will produce greater preliminary evidence of benefit on the primary outcome of medical care attendance in the past 6 months and on secondary outcomes of having undetectable viral load, ART adherence, and psychosocial well-being.

HPTN 096 is a community-randomized, controlled, hybrid-type III implementation effectiveness study. It is designed to evaluate an integrated strategy approach to increase the uptake and use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and viral suppression rates among Black MSM in the southern United States. A status-neutral approach will be taken such that Black MSM, regardless of HIV status (both those living with and without HIV), will be included in the study.

COVID-19 Serology in People Living With HIV in Hong Kong

Immunodeficiency associated with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection could predispose people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) to defective serological responses following infection or vaccination. To evaluate the health outcomes of coronovirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) and HIV co-infection, PLHA and HIV-uninfected persons in Hong Kong are invited to join a study for understanding their clinical characteristics and for tracking their levels of antibodies against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) over a one-year observation period after infection or vaccination. The results could inform the development of prevention and control strategy for PLHA in response to the emerging coronavirus threats.

HIV Infection And Evolvement of Atherosclerotic Plaque

In a prospective multi-center observational study, 200 HIV-infected patients treated with antiretroviral treatment (ART) and who suffered from coronary artery disease (CAD) will be enrolled. Blood samples for biological parameters will be collected with all participants: lipid profile and markers of systemic inflammation specific for HIV-infection (lipopolysaccharide-binding protein; cytokines: IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, TNF -α, INF-γ, INF-α; procalcitonin; inflammatory hsCRP). All of them will undergo functional testing (Echo, CMR both at rest and stress if necessary) and invasive imaging with QCA, FFR, QFR, OCT, IVUS, VH-IVUS, NIRS. Patients will be treated according to the current and previous recommendations. Both medical treatment and percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) with or without stenting will be done. Collected data will be analyzed: correlation between ART, blood test results, coronary angiography results, including performed PTCA, history of myocardial infarctions, and other cardiovascular events. The follow-up period will achieve 12 months prospectively with collected clinical events and imaging outcomes which will be determined at the baseline and 12-month follow-up. The independent ethics expertise will be provided by the Central Clinical Hospital of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow, Russia). The monitoring of the clinical data with imaging will be provided by The Ethics Board of Central Clinical Hospital of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
