Immediate Decrease of Muscle Biomechanical Stiffness Following Dry Needling in Asymptomatic Participants

60 healthy participants were randomized into infraspinatus, erector spinae, or gastrocnemius groups. One session of dry needling DN was applied to the muscle in standardized location. Stiffness was assessed using a MyotonPRO at baseline, immediately post DN, and 24 hours later. The presence of a localized twitch response (LTR) during DN was used to subgroup participants.

The recent literature has highlighting the importance of the time of SB and the level of physical activity (PA) as predictors of metabolic cardio risks. Now, sedentary lifestyles are well recognized as one of the causes of mortality. As with physical activity, a dose-response relationship appears to exist: mortality would increase with time spent in sedentary behaviors. However, this relationship would not be linear: the more the daily sitting time increases, the more the consequences on mortality are important. It is now well demonstrated that time spent in sedentary adult behaviour finds primarily its origin in the work, characterized by prolonged and uninterrupted periods of sitting. Many strategies have been settled to break the prolonged sitting time. The most promising one seem to be the use of active workstations (standing, walking, cycling, stepping) because they reduce sedentary time at work and increase physical activity with positive effects on the global health. However inter variability in energy response have been identified during a sit to stand allocation with subject "savers" profile showing an increase in energy expenditure while others categorized as "non-savers" increased significantly their energy expenditure between sitting and standing position. As others active workstation strategies exist, this study aim to first, better characterize energy response to posture and activity allocation (15min sit-15min stand-15min sit-15min low intensity cycling), secondly to identify parameters that could explain different energy profile.

Reduction in appetite and/or food intake among older individuals is referred to as anorexia of aging (AOA, also known as Geriatric Anorexia). AOA is linked with myriad comorbidities associated with aging, contributes significantly to adverse health consequences in old age, and has been used as a predictor of morbidity and mortality. The overall aim of this study is to assess the feasibility and burden of the proposed in-laboratory and out-of-laboratory assessments to study Geriatric Anorexia. This will be accomplished with the use of questionnaires as well as devices that evaluate movement, metabolism, body weight composition, glucose levels, and nutritional scale.

Protein is an essential macronutrient for post-exercise recovery through its ability to provide the amino acid building blocks that support increased rates of muscle and whole body protein synthesis. Despite the growing understanding of the importance of post-exercise protein in endurance athlete populations, the impact of sex and female menstrual cycle phase on protein metabolism is not fully understood. To date, no studies have examined protein requirements in female endurance trained athletes. The aim of the proposed study is to utilize the well-established IAAO method to determine protein requirements in endurance trained female and male athletes in a "real-world" and at-home setting.
