Filter by:The goal of this randomized, counterbalanced, crossover study is to determine the effectiveness of performing a supramaximal walkout on enhancing subsequent back squat performance in trained lifters. The main question we aim to answer is whether bar velocity, power output, perceived exertion, and muscle activation are altered when performing the back squat exercise after a supramaximal walkout. On the first visit, participants will be informed of the study protocols before providing oral and written informed consent. Afterwards, participants will complete maximum voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) testing for the quadriceps and gluteus maximus muscle groups to generate a normalization for the electromyography (EMG) measurements. During the second visit, participants will perform a 1RM back squat. The third and fourth visits will be the experimental visits, where they will perform either a supramaximal (110% 1RM) or submaximal (control; 30% 1RM) walkout. A set of 1 back squat at 92.5% 1RM will be performed prior to the walkout to serve as a baseline, then 3 sets of 1 at 92.5% 1RM will be performed afterwards.
The goal of this observational cross-sectional study is to analyze the effect of cardiovascular risk factors in healthy and asymptomatic populations. The main questions it aims to answer are: - Does the combination of the presence of different risk factors increase the risk for abnormalities appearing on electrocardiograms, such as ischemia, arrhythmia, and hemodynamics effects during and at the peak of effort of treadmill exercise test? - What are the main differences observed in the recovery period? Participants will answer an anamnesis of risk factors such as sex, race, age, familiar history of coronary artery disease, overweight or obesity, smoking, stress, and physical activity practice and perform treadmill exercise test on Ellestad protocol. If there a comparison groups: Researchers will compare individuals with most risk factors with those without, to see the cardiovascular responses.
The goal of this clinical trial is to test neurofeedback training in both people with Parkinson's disease and healthy control. The main questions it aims to answer are: - To demonstrate that EEG based or STN LFP based neurofeedback can help patients with Parkinson's disease to volitionally modulate pathological brain activities measured non-invasively; - To evaluate the learning effect of the neurofeedback training with multiple training sessions Patient participants will be asked to receive the research intervention called neurofeedback training for maximal three separate sessions. During the intervention, the participants will also be asked to press a pinch meter as fast as possible in order to measure the reaction time, meanwhile, different type of brain signals will be recorded. . This will be a within-subject cross-over study contrasting the effect of the neurofeedback training and no training.
The goal of this clinical trial is to examine the impact of food derived bacteria on gut microbiome composition and host health. The main questions it aims to answer are: - what is the the rate of gastrointestinal colonisation of food derived bacteria? - what is the contribution of food derived bacteria to gut microbiome stability? Participants will complete a cross over feeding study of dietitian designed meals of known microbial load and will be asked to provide stool and blood samples for analysis.
This study is a Phase Ia, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, single dose, dose escalation safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetic study of STSA-1201 injection in healthy subjects. A total of 44 healthy subjects were enrolled in four dosage groups.
"The understanding of the two sugars, glucose and fructose, has been thoroughly investigated regarding their impact on human metabolism during exercise. The consumption of the sugar galactose is an intriguing alternative and can be beneficial, especially for individuals with type 1 Diabetes, as it reduces the need for insulin to maintain normal blood sugar levels. Additionally, galactose oxidation rates during exercise are only 50-60% compared to glucose, primarily due to liver storage and/or the requirement for conversion to glucose in the liver before oxidation. This delay in metabolism can prevent hyperglycemia before exercise and provide extended protection against episodes of hypoglycemia during and after exercise through a moderate and prolonged glycemic response. The purpose of this experiment is to investigate whether galactose is taken up by skeletal muscles and the heart in response to exercise or hyperinsulinemia. Using non-invasive 18F-FDGal PET, the investigators will examine this in a randomized controlled study design. The results could contribute to updating dietary recommendations, particularly for individuals with type 1 diabetes who struggle to maintain normal blood sugar levels during and after exercise."
This study was conducted to determine safety and efficacy of topically applied cream containing combination of niacinamide, arbutin, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract and Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract for its skin brightening effect on post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation among the Malaysian population. The study duration is 20 weeks and the skin assessment will be carried out at baseline, week 4, week 8, week 12, week 16 and week 20.The main questions this study aims to answer are: 1. To determine the efficacy of topical cream containing natural plant extracts, niacinamide, and arbutin for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation among Malaysians. 2. To investigate the safety of topical cream containing natural plant extracts, niacinamide, and arbutin for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation among Malaysians. 3. To assess the participants satisfaction of using topical cream containing natural plant extracts, niacinamide, and arbutin for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation among Malaysians.
Aim: Evaluate whether sonicating the Nucleus Accumbens (NAc) with transcranial focused ultrasound modifies functional connectivity between the NAc and the prefrontal cortex (PFC). In this single visit, open-label pilot trial, we plan to evaluate whether transcranial focused ultrasound (tFUS), delivered to the nucleus accumbens (NAc) within the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner will impact resting state functional connectivity between the NAc and functionally connected brain regions like the prefrontal cortex (PFC) and the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) in up to 10 healthy individuals. HYPOTHESIS : tFUS will reduce prefrontal cortex (PFC)-NAc functional connectivity, in healthy individuals. We will investigate this hypothesis by administering tFUS within to MRI scanner to healthy individuals and conduct resting state functional neuroimaging before- and after the tFUS stimulation.

The main objectives of this trial are to investigate safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics following multiple rising intravenous doses of BI 3032950 in healthy male subjects and postmenopausal or surgically sterilised female subjects (women not of child bearing potential (WNOCBP)).
