Filter by:This is a pilot study of the effects of dermal melanin on dermal uptake and retention of nicotine. The initial hypothesis is that higher levels of dermal melanin will correlate with lower uptake and longer retention of nicotine in the skin and body.
This is an effectiveness study into a program ("HiRO") for improving social-emotional development, self esteem and the perceived classroom peer context in primary school students (aged 4-13 years). To this end, schools are divided into three conditions based on the choice of the schools (non-randomized): 1) School As Usual, 2) HiRo without judo classes, and 3) HiRO with judo classes. In all participating schools, social-emotional skills, self-image, emotional problems, and classroom peer context are measured three times by means of questionnaires (both self-report and parent-report). In The Netherlands primary schools are obliged to offer students training in social-emotional development. Schools can decide to develop their own program or make use of existing programs delivered by third parties, such as HiRO. In this study HiRO is compared to school as usual, that is, any other program offered to promote social -emotional development than HiRO. The main questions to answer are: - What is the effect of HiRO on the development of prosocial behavior? - What is the effect of HiRO on the development of emotional problems (depression, anxiety)? - What is the effect of HiRO on self-esteem? - What is the effect of HiRO on perceived peer context? Researchers will compare HiRO with and without judo to "school as usual" testing the following hypotheses: HiRO will result in increased prosocial skills as compared to school as usual. HiRO will result in decreased emotional problems as compared to school as usual. HiRO will result in increased self-esteem as compared to school as usual. HiRO will result in improved perceived peer context as compared to school as usual.
This study explored whether exercise video distribution using metaverse space is effective in increasing physical activity among young people, along with mental health and locomotive function. This is a randomized parallel-group study. Participants will be assigned to 3 groups: a metaverse group, a YouTube group, and a control group. The metaverse group will receive eight 10-minute exercise videos each week with approximately 4 to 8 METs (metabolic equivalents of task) in the metaverse space to encourage exercise, and the YouTube group will receive access to the same exercise videos as the metaverse group. The control group was given no specific instructions. The intervention period was 8 weeks, and physical activity and other items were measured before and after the intervention. These pre- and post-intervention measurements will be used to determine whether the delivery of exercise videos via Metaverse is effective in increasing physical activity in young adults.
The investigators aim at harvesting PBMC from healthy donors to study the effect of the lipids mediators of interest. After isolation from the blood, PBMC will be activated as largely reported in the literature in the presence or absence of the tested lipids. The effect will be assessed by quantifying the expression of inflammatory markers. The expression of the receptors and enzymes potentially regulating the effects of the studied lipids will also be assessed.
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women worldwide. The incidence rate has reached approximately 16%. According to 2016 data from the Ministry of Health, the incidence of breast cancer in Turkey is 46.8 per 100,000 people and approximately 17,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. While breast cancer survival rate is 80% in developed countries, this rate varies between 40-60% in low-middle income countries. Survival can be increased with early diagnosis and more effective treatment methods. However, a wide range of treatment-related complications are observed during and/or after breast cancer treatment. Cancer survivors are exposed to a variety of direct (local/regional therapy, systemic therapy and supportive care) and indirect factors (modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors) that can have adverse effects on pulmonary, cardiovascular, hematologic and musculoskeletal components. Oxygen consumption in cancer patients may be adversely affected by aging, deconditioning, existing comorbidities, cancer pathophysiology and cancer treatments (surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and hormone therapy). Although decreased functional capacity is common after breast cancer treatment, there are few studies evaluating maximal arm exercise capacity with oxygen consumption.
Mystical experience is described as an experience that is unique to everyone, potentially transformative and leaving a mark for many years or even a lifetime. It is characterized by: a loss of self/ego, being with the whole/nature/universe, transcendence, a loss of spatio-temporal reference points, ineffability, peace and joy, a sacred character, and a noetic quality. The mystical experience is one that occurs in the context of non-ordinary states of consciousness such as meditation and the consumption of so-called psychedelic drugs, for example. It would seem, in fact, to correspond to the transformative mechanism of the psychedelic experience. The goal ofthis study is to investigate the possibility of a mystical experience through hypnosis.
The goal of this clinical trial is to learn about the pharmacokinetic profile (behaviour of the drug in the body) of a new oral formulation of minoxidil administered in healthy volunteers. The main question that is to answer is to evaluate the bioavailability of the oral test formulation of minoxidil. The secondary onjectives is to compare it with the formulation already on the market (i.e . Regaxidil® 20 mg/mL cutaneous solution). It is planned that 14 healthy female volunteers of legal age (without any known pathology) participate in the study. The expected duration of the study is approximately 23-56 days. Each volunteer that decide to participate in this study will be sequentially administered one of the formulations planned for the study: either the test formulation (oral minoxidil tablets of 1 mg, developed by Industrial Farmacéutica Cantabria, S.A.), or the reference formulation (minoxidil skin solution, 20 mg/mL, marketed by Industrial Farmacéutica Cantabria, S.A.). After five days of administration of one of the study formulations, at least 7 days will elapse before starting an additional five days of administration of the other study formulation that had not been administered in the first sequence. Assignment to this sequence of administration of the study formulations (oral formulation or topical solution) shall be completely randomised. In each of these sequential periods of five days of administration of the study formulations, the concentration of minoxidil will be quantified in blood samples, which will be taken from each of the volunteers at certain times after the administration of the medication. These blood analyses will enable to determine the parameters that define the pharmacokinetic profile of the new oral formulation under study.
The study will examine the effects of online meditation training on stress and anxiety in healthy participants. It will also examine the dose-response relationship between the amount of daily focused attention meditation practice and established mental health outcome measures.
The purpose of this clinical trial is to evaluate the oral tolerance of a new, experimental mouthwash compared to two mouth rinse formulations, which are already marketed, as well as compared to a tooth brushing only control group.
The main purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and tolerability of LY3876602 after administering as single ascending doses and following a data review proceeding to multiple ascending doses in healthy participants. The blood tests will also be performed to check how much LY3876602 gets into the bloodstream and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and how long it takes the body to eliminate it. The study will last up to approximately 17 weeks. A subgroup of participants will be consented for CSF collections.
