Effects of Laughter Yoga Practiced by Nursing Students Before Clinical Practice

Aim: We conducted this randomized controlled study to determine the effect of laughter yoga practiced by first year nursing students before clinical practice on their perceptions of stress and meaning of life. Background: Laughter yoga has a positive effect on the person's mental/general health, life satisfaction and psychological well-being and enables the person to cope with stress. Design: In this experimental randomized and controlled study including a control group, we administered a pre-test, post-test one and post-test two to the participating students. Methods: We conducted the study with 45 first year nursing students in the intervention group, and 45 first year nursing students in the control group. The students in the intervention group took part in eight sessions of laughter yoga for four weeks, twice a week. We used the Descriptive Information Form, Perceived Stress Scale, and Meaning and Purpose of Life Scale to collect the study data.

Effect of Seat Height and Angle on Wheelchair Foot Propulsion

The purpose of the project is to explore the effect of differences in seat height and seat angle on bilateral foot propulsion using a manual wheelchair. The objectives of the study are to determine whether differences in seat height and seat angle impact: a) propulsion speed; b) knee range of motion used during propulsion; c) effectiveness of foot propulsion gait; and d) perceived difficulty with foot propulsion. A repeated measures designs allows comparison between 5 different seat height conditions and 4 different seat angle conditions to determine whether there are significant differences in outcome, and if so, which conditions provide better outcomes. Participants will propel a customized MWC through a standardized course using each seat configuration; the sequence will be randomized to reduce any learning effects.

Biosensor and Environmental Sensor Development Within the REMEDIA Project

The aim of this proof-of-concept study is to obtain data that will contribute to the development of sensor devices (biosensor and environmental sensor) for patients with lung diseases (e.g. COPD). The study aims to validate our previous results from healthy subjects by joint testing of the biosensor and environmental device in a real-world setting. Healthy subjects and COPD subjects will be exposed to air of a traffic dense urban region ("urban" air) and to filtered indoor air ("clean" air) during activity and rest. Environmental and biomarker sensors will be used to measure several biomarkers and environmental conditions.
