Filter by:This will be a Phase 1, randomised, open label, 3 way crossover study in healthy male and female Chinese subjects. Subjects will participate in 3 treatment periods and will be randomised in a 1:1:1 ratio to 1 of 3 treatment sequences. There will be a washout period of 7 days between doses.
In rodents, novel exploration has been used to strengthen the consolidation of a variety of hippocampal-dependent learning tasks. To our knowledge, no attempt have been made to translate the effect of strengthening the memory of an extinction of a context conditioning memory. This study uses virtual reality for both context conditioning and novel exploration in an attempt at translating these findings from rodents to humans, thus, using novel exploration to strengthen an extinction memory. Threat responses are measured with skin conductance and startle responses. If this effect could be shown experimentally in humans, that experimental setup could become an important tool in understanding important memory processes of fear, such as reconsolidation and behavioral tagging.
The overall goal of this project is to better understand the effect of intermittent hypoxia (IH) on sympathetic neuronal discharge patterns in humans, as well as mechanisms that mediate persistent sympathoexcitation with IH.
BFR training is growing in popularity and a variety of devices are on the market for clinical use. One way in which it is thought that BFR resistance training safety can be increased is by using a BFR cuff that regulates the applied pressure to the limb during each repetition. This is thought to reduce perceptual, hemodynamic and cardiovascular responses to non-autoregulated approaches, theoretically increasing long-term compliance and safety with BFR training.
Although it is well known that stress plays an important role in the development of neuropsychiatric diseases, the precise role and molecular effects of stress have only been poorly understood. For example, autophagy is essential for energy and cellular homeostasis through protein catabolism, and dysregulation results in compromised proteostasis, stress-coping behavior, and excessive secretion of signaling molecules and inflammatory factors. Therefore, the aim of the project is to analyze the clinical effects of a bungee jump resembling an acute stress event in correlation to autophagy and other underlying, multi-level molecular profiling. Specifically, it is planned to perform multi-level molecular profiling and sleep analysis in a cohort of healthy male individuals before, during, and after a bungee jump compared to a control cohort of healthy males not undergoing a stress event. The resulting findings will advance the role of autophagy during the stress response and hence in the development of psychiatric disorders, and possibly investigate alternative treatment venues on a molecular level, and finally contribute to a better clinical outcome.
The current cervical range of motion (CROM) and tongue movement measurement methods are not reliable between observers, which is not practical in real-world usage. This research is to develop the cervical range of motion measurement, and tongue movement estimation software, to compare between the developed software and the current measurement techniques, and to test in clinical aspects for reliability and validity assessment. The investigators investigate the developed software in healthy people in phase 1. In phases 2 and 3, the investigators compare the software to the standard measurement methods in dysphagic patients who have head and neck cancer for reliability and validity.
The purpose of this clinical study is to validate the SpO2 accuracy of the Stryker Sustainability Solutions pulse oximetry sensors during non-motion conditions over the range of 70-100% SaO2 as compared to arterial blood samples assessed by CO-Oximetry. The end goal is to provide supporting documentation for the SpO2 accuracy validation of the reprocessed sensors.
