Filter by:The purpose of this study is to evaluate the cellular immunogenicity of 3 monthly electroporation-mediated intramuscular (IM) injections of JNJ-64300535 in healthy participants.
The objective of the current study is to evaluate the effect of whole cell fermentate on gut health, including GI system function, such as supporting consistency and regularity of bowel habits, as well as changes in microbiota. The role of the GI system can also be extended to immune regulation because approximately 70% of the entire immune system in the body is located around the gut. Thus, the health and wellbeing of the gut can have a great impact on whole-body health. Therefore, this study will assess the effect on overall immune function.
The aim of the study is to investigate the response of recognized biomarkers of vitamin B12 status to intervention with supplemental vitamin B12 at doses within and beyond the range of typical dietary intakes in younger and older adults. Study design: A double-blind randomized controlled trial in healthy adults aged 18 years and over will be conducted. Apparently healthy individuals will be recruited from the staff and student population at Ulster University, Coleraine, and the surrounding local community. Those interested in the study will provide informed consent. Individuals suffering from chronic conditions, those taking medications interfering with folate or vitamin B12 metabolism or B vitamin supplements, and women who are pregnant will be excluded from participation. Potential participants will provide a non-fasting blood sample and those with plasma creatinine concentration > 130 µmol/L, those with hypochlorhydria (diagnosed serologically by pepsinogen I to Pepsinogen II ratio < 3) and those with the 677C→T polymorphism in the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene will also be excluded from the study. In addition, participants aged 60 years and over who score <25 on the Folstein's Mini-Mental State Examination (a cognitive function screening test) will be excluded to reduce the risk of including participants with impaired cognitive function and thus reduced ability to comply with the study requirements, including compliance with the intervention trial and recall of food intake. All eligible participants will undergo a pre-treatment phase with 400 µg/day folic acid (FA) for 11 weeks. At the end of this phase, participants will provide a non-fasting blood sample (baseline sample) and will be stratified within each age category (<60 years and ≥60 years) according to their homocysteine concentrations and subsequently randomized from each stratum (in a 1:1:1:1 allocation ratio) to one of the four treatments for 16 weeks: 400 µg/day FA + placebo, 400 µg/day FA + 2 µg/day vitamin B12, 400 µg/day FA + 10 µg/day vitamin B12 or 400 µg/day FA + 50 µg/day vitamin B12. A non-fasting blood sample will be collected at the end of the intervention. Biomarkers of vitamin B12 and folate will be measured in blood samples collected at baseline and post-intervention. The intervention will be conducted on a staggered basis and both study participants and researchers will be blinded to the treatment allocations. Dietary intake of participants will be assessed using a four-day food diary based on 2 weekday and 2 weekend day intakes in combination with a food frequency questionnaire particularly focused on intakes of foods fortified with vitamin B12 and FA.
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of 700 chemicals derived from the Cannabis sativa plant and is both legal and widespread for distribution in the state of Vermont. The central hypothesis of this proposal is that in apparently healthy adults, acute CBD favorably affects the autonomic nervous system and that this will be evident by an increase in heart rate variability. The overall goal is to understand how CBD affects the autonomic and cardiovascular systems at rest, and when perturbed. The investigators will study a narrow age range of adults, administer varying acute doses of CBD, characterize baseline cardiovascular variables, and record responses to autonomic challenge maneuvers. This will provide the framework to assess potential therapies and/or risk factors of CBD, particularly as it relates to healthy individuals. More information that is so widely taken, especially one that targets receptors known to be involved in cardiovascular signaling pathways is imperative.
ZYIL1 is a novel oral selective NLRP3 inflammasome inhibitor which prevents NLRP3-induced ASC oligomerization, thus inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome pathway. ZYIL1 is expected to show benefit in patients demonstrating cytokine, like IL1β flare, including those exhibiting cytokine storm related to COVID-19 and other viral inflammatory diseases.
In this early phase clinical research study, the investigational drug will be administered to 64 healthy volunteers in a double-blind, placebo-controlled manner, at a one research center. The objectives of the study are to assess what the body does to the investigational drug, what the investigational drug does to the body and also to observe the safety and tolerability of the investigational drug healthy volunteers.

After a stroke, more than two out of three patients experience problems with upper limb movement and sensation. During the past decade, robotic technology has been increasingly used to asses these problems in a detailed and accurate manner. However, sensory processing, one of the most important sensory functions, has not been assessed using robotic technology yet. Therefore, our group has developed a robotic assessment of sensory processing. This study is set up to obtain detailed information on how healthy controls perform on this task. This information can then help in identifying abnormal performances (i.e. upper limb sensory problems) in stroke patients. We aim to examine 40 healthy younger adults and 40 healthy older adults.
To investigate the effect of mental fatigue on industrial work performance, biomechanical determinants, (electro-)(psycho-) physiological measures and physical ergonomics. Additionally, the current project wants to evaluate whether or not the Laevo exoskeleton influences the aforementioned parameters when mental fatigue is acutely induced.
GLPG3970 will be given with sulfasalazine to investigate the effect of co-administration on the pharmacokinetics of sulfasalazine, and on the safety and tolerability of the drugs in healthy adult subjects.
