Virtual Phone Visits Compared to In-Person Physical Visits for Post-Operative Follow-Up at a Sports Medicine Clinic

This study will compare patient reported outcomes (PROs) and patient satisfaction scores of patients seen at virtual phone visits with patients seen at in-person visits for post-operative follow up at 6 weeks, 12 weeks, and 6 months at a sports medicine clinic. This study will determine if there is a difference in PROs and satisfaction scores between these two groups of patients. The investigators hypothesize patients who are seen during a virtual phone visit will report different PRO and patient satisfaction scores compared to patients who are seen during an in-person visit for post-operative follow-up at 6 weeks, 12 weeks, and 6-months.

Repurposing Atovaquone for the Treatment of Platinum-Resistant Ovarian Cancer

This phase II trial test tests how well repurposing atovaquone works in treating patients with platinum-resistant ovarian cancer. Atovaquone is used for the treatment or prevention of certain infections. Atovaquone is in a class of medications called antiprotozoal agents. It works by stopping the growth of certain types of protozoa that can cause pneumonia. Giving atovaquone may be effective in treating platinum-resistant ovarian cancer and result in improved outcomes compared to standard chemotherapy regimens.

A Randomized Study to Examine the Ability of a Caffeine-Based Energy Drink to Impact Energy Expenditure, Fat Oxidation, Reaction Time, and Other Perceptual Indicators

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the changes in energy expenditure, fat oxidation, reaction time, and perceptual indicators of energy and focus after acute ingestion of a caffeine-based energy drink. Approximately 60 healthy adults aged 18-50 will be recruited for a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study. They will undergo baseline measurements for energy expenditure, fat and carbohydrate oxidation, reaction time, cognition, and perceptual indicators of energy, focus, and concentration. After 28 days, these measurements will be taken again, comparing the effects of a caffeine-based energy drink versus a placebo.

Randomized Study of the pdSTIM™ System (Phrenic Nerve to Diaphragm STIMulation) in Failure to Wean Mechanically Ventilated Patients

This prospective, multi-center, randomized, controlled clinical trial is being conducted to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the pdSTIM System to facilitate weaning from mechanical ventilation through phrenic nerve stimulation. Potential subjects who are on mechanical ventilation for at least four days and have failed at least one weaning attempt will be considered for the study. Those enrolled will be randomized in a 1:1 manner between the treatment group that is standard of care with the pdSTIM System and a Control group, which is standard of care alone. The primary endpoints focus on time to weaning and serious adverse event rates between the Treatment and Control groups.

First Face Training Evaluation in Tribal Communities

The goal of this study is to evaluate a culturally grounded training curriculum, First Face for Mental Health, in Tribal communities, using a waitlist controlled randomized trial design. This curriculum will train Tribal community members in how to respond to youth and adults experiencing mental health crises and serve as a bridge between these individuals and the help they need. The main questions the study aims to answer are: - Does the training increase mental health knowledge, capacity and ability to respond to mental health situations, perceived competence to respond, and actual responsive actions among trainees? - Does the training decrease mental health stigmatizing attitudes and increase cultural identity among trainees? Participants will complete surveys before and after completing the First Face training, across five time points over the course of two years. Half of the participants will be randomized to receive the training initially, and half will receive it six months later. Researchers will compare the two groups to examine whether the trainees demonstrate changes in the outcomes of interest compared to the waitlist control group during the first six months, and whether both groups demonstrate sustained changes after the first six months (i.e., once both groups have received training).

The investigators hope to gain knowledge that may help treat atrial fibrillation or flutter and lower stroke and adverse cardiovascular event risks for African American and Black patients by increasing the use of blood thinning medications known as anticoagulants.

Feasibility, Acceptability, and Preliminary Efficacy of a Six-week Physical Activity Intervention for Black Women

The current study will be a randomized controlled pilot study conducted in the Midwest. Participants will be randomly assigned to a behavioral intervention or a wait-list control group, each lasting six weeks. The intervention group will first have an in-person meeting at the beginning of the intervention to discuss the study, go over movements, and discuss Zoom and WhatsApp instructions. The behavioral intervention will consist of three home-based workouts per week sent digitally and Zoom session per week that will have an exercise session and a group counseling session. Additionally, each week participants will be sent a motivational prompt via WhatsApp and will be encouraged to connect with each other about physical activity motivation, barriers, and facilitators. Acceptability, physical activity and psychosocial variables of interest will be measured via accelerometer data (via Actigraph GT3X) and self-report at baseline and six weeks (post-intervention). Focus groups will be conducted for all participants at the conclusion of the study to further assess acceptability, feasibility, and efficacy of the program.
