Background: Impairment in cognitive processing speed is a consistent finding in schizophrenia spectrum disorder. Vitamin D deficiency is found to be significantly associated with reduced processing speed. In this study, we will investigate the effect from vitamin D supplementation on processing speed. Objective: The primary objective is to investigate whether vitamin D supplementation is superior to placebo in improving processing speed. The secondary objectives are to investigate whether vitamin D supplementation is superior to placebo in improving negative symptoms, social and physical activity. Study design: Randomized placebo-controlled double blind trial. Study population: Men and women, aged 18-65 years, diagnosed with a schizophrenia spectrum disorder, in treatment for their disorder at the Division for Mental Health at Akershus university hospital. Intervention: Participants will be randomized 1:1 to either vitamin D3 (50µg capsules) or placebo daily for 12 weeks. The medical product or placebo will be given in addition to treatment as usual. Study measures: Cognitive tests, symptom assessments and blood sampling for vitamin D analyses will be performed at baseline and after 12 weeks intervention. During the 12 week intervention period the participants will use a smart phone application (MinDag) for self-report and an actigraph (MotionWatch 8 actigraph from CamNtech) for registration of physical activity. Endpoints: Primary outcome is change in cognitive performance on the symbol coding test from the Brief assessment of Cognition in Schizophrenia (BACS). Secondary outcomes are change in performance on the the Category Fluency Test from the MATRICS Consensus Cognitive battery, change in negative symptoms from the clinician rated Brief negative symptom scale (BNSS), and change in self-reported negative symptoms from the scale Self-assessment of negative Negative Symptoms (SNS). Secondary outcomes also include change in self-reported social activities and change in actigraph registered physical activity. Expected benefits for consumers and caregivers: The results from the study will indicate whether vitamin D supplementation could represent a beneficial treatment strategy for impaired processing speed and related symptoms.
Soldiers commonly lose muscle mass during training and combat operations that produce large energy deficits (i.e., calories burned > calories consumed). Developing new combat ration products that increase energy intake (i.e., energy dense foods) or the amount and quality of protein consumed (i.e., essential amino acid [EAA] content) may prevent muscle breakdown and stimulate muscle repair and muscle maintenance during unavoidable energy deficit. The primary objective of this study is to determine the effects of prototype recovery food products that are energy dense or that provide increased amounts of EAAs (anabolic component of dietary protein) on energy balance, whole-body net protein balance, and indices of physiological status during strenuous winter military training.
The purpose of this study is to compare aquatic high intensity interval training with moderate intensity exercise training on exercise capacity in a population with rheumatic diseases.
This is a Phase 3, open-label, international, multicenter study of CGT9486 in combination with sunitinib. This is a multi-part study that will enroll approximately 426 patients. Part 1 consists of two evaluations: 1) confirming the dose of an updated formulation of CGT9486 to be used in subsequent parts in approximately 20 patients who have received at least one prior line of therapy for GIST and 2) evaluating for drug-drug interactions between CGT9486 and sunitinib in approximately 18 patients who have received at least two prior tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) for GISTs. The second part of the study will enroll approximately 388 patients who are intolerant to, or who failed prior treatment with imatinib only and will compare the efficacy of CGT9486 plus sunitinib to sunitinib alone with patients being randomized in a 1:1 manner.
Nonrandomized controlled trial to assess whether or not sleeve gastrectomy (SG) and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) affect social experiences and biomarkers of well-being differently 6 weeks and 1 year after surgery. The decision whether SG or RYGB will be performed is determined by medical decision making. Hypotheses Bariatric surgery influences social experiences and well-being through changes in body image, reward responsivity and gut hormones . These changes may differ between gastric bypass (RYGB) and sleeve gastrectomy (SG).
The purpose of this project is to compare a newly developed automatic reversing dynamic air mattress, with a regular care mattress, which is in daily use at the hospital. Focus will be on pressure relief in relation to occurrence of pressure injury, user satisfaction, and the mattresses impact on sleep and pain. The participants will be randomized to start with the intervention mattress or the control mattress. Outcomes will be measured via validated forms regarding pressure related injuries, quality of life, pain, and mattress comfort. Custom made forms will be used regarding resource use and comfort in the nursing service, especially in relation to position changes in the participants .
The investigators will randomise individuals from family doctors' lists of patients that are at risk of severe Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), and that are not registered as having taken the vaccine against the disease. The patients will be randomised to receiving a phone call from their family physician where the participants are given the opportunity to raise questions they might have around vaccination. The investigators will assess whether this has an impact on vaccine uptake.
This is a 12-month, parallel treatment, Phase 3, double-blind, randomized, placebo controlled study to evaluate the effect of venglustat on neuropathic and abdominal pain symptoms of Fabry disease in participants ≥16 years of age with Fabry disease who are treatment-naïve or untreated for at least 6 months. - Study visits will take place approximately every 3 months. - The double-blind period will be followed by an open-label extension (OLE) during which participants who have completed the double-blind period will be treated with venglustat for up to an additional 12 months.
The present study is the last part of a larger project investigating the health, quality of life and function of men having received radical treatment for prostate cancer in 2014-2018. In this study, physical function and level of physical activity will be tested and registered in a selection of older men who participated in the foregoing parts of the project. Comparisons will be made to similar data from a population-based cohort, matched on age and education.
The present study is a 2-arm pragmatic randomised controlled trial (RCT) in which 310 patients who suffer from post-Covid syndrome are randomised to either a short-time outpatient-based rehabilitation program (the intervention) or care as usual in a 1:1 ratio. Assessments will take place immediately before randomisation (T0), after intervention or care as usual (T1), and 6 months after T1 (T2). Patients will be recruited from General Practitioners (GP's) as well as social media and self-referral to the involved institutions.
