The overall aim of the project is to develop a national registry to accurately measure the burden of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) among the general Canadian population. This project will create a common platform to link existing sources of information (EMS, Coroner and Administrative Databases) in order to fully understand the causes and outcomes of SCA. This comprehensive, unique registry will inform the progress and effectiveness of all CANet SCA programs aimed at reducing SCA. Understanding the antecedents, causes and outcomes of SCA will allow for new initiatives/investigations to reduce SCA, by using targeted interventions both effectively and efficiently.

Efficacy of Convulsive Therapies for Bipolar Depression

This trial aims to assess the efficacy and tolerability of Magnetic Seizure Therapy (MST) as an alternative to electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for Bipolar Disorder (BD). Research indicates that the prevalence of treatment resistance in bipolar depression is twice that of unipolar depression. The limited effectiveness of current treatments for bipolar depression coupled with the medical and economic burden associated with the disorder engenders a need for novel therapeutic interventions that can provide greater response and remission rates.

Orthodontic Approaches to Correct Deep Bite in Mixed Dentition Patients

A deep bite is a bite where the upper front teeth cover almost all, if not all the lower front teeth. Currently there is no clarity which of the available treatment approaches is better when these patients still have some baby (deciduous) teeth in their mouths. This study will compare the results of four ways to manage this problem: 1. Delay treatment until all permanent teeth are erupted, 2. Temporary glue some brackets to the upper front teeth and correct the problem with orthodontic wires, 3. Temporary glue some dental material in the back of the front teeth to allow the back teeth to erupt. The amount of improvement (increased exposure of lower front teeth when biting) will be compared between the four treatment options. The reason there is a no treatment group is because a slight improvement of the deep bite happens naturally in some cases. In this case delay of treatment is not a major concern as this bite type can be managed later during permanent dentition.

Effect of Expanded Dialysis on Patient Reported Symptoms Using LEVIL

Investigators know that many patients who are on dialysis suffer from the burden of unwanted symptoms, which can affect quality of life. In this study, the investigators will be assessing symptom burden using the London Evaluation of Illness "LEVIL," an application based platform where patients self-report their symptoms with at least one hemodialysis treatment. The investigators would like to compare the currently available dialyzer with a new dialyzer that is capable of removing solutes of higher molecular weight that may or may not cause patients to experience symptoms related to increased amounts of these toxins in their blood.

Economic Impact of Dropless Therapy Versus Usual Care for Cataract Surgery: A Real-World Study.

This real-life Health Economics and Outcome Research (HEOR) study will enable to evaluate the economic impact of Dropless therapy for the prophylactic treatment of inflammation and infection after routine cataract surgery. This prospective randomized controlled crossover open-label study will estimate resource utilization and cost attributable to patients' management following a cataract surgery and until last follow-up visit and adherence, satisfaction and preference between usual care and Dropless in a real-life setting. Data collected will include patients' characteristics and demographics, medical information, cataract surgery information, healthcare resource utilization, patients' adherence to topical ophthalmic medications as well as patients' satisfaction to both treatment and preference between usual care and Dropless. Patients will fill a set of questionnaires at their recruitment in the study and at their last follow-up visit for their two cataracts surgery.

Phase 2b, Open-label, Multicenter, Rollover Study to Assess Antiviral Activity and Safety of Long-acting (LA) Cabotegravir (CAB) Plus LA Rilpivirine (RPV), Administered Every 2 Months (Q2M), in Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)-Positive Participants From the LATTE Study

This study (POLAR), is designed to assess the antiviral activity and safety of CAB LA plus RPV LA, administered Q2M, in approximately 100 adult HIV-1 infected, antiretroviral therapy (ART) experienced participants. Participants will rollover from the NCT01641809 (LATTE) study, who have completed minimum duration of Week 312 and with demonstrated HIV-1 ribonucleic acid (RNA) suppression (less than [<]50 copies (c) per milliliter [mL]), while receiving a two-drug regimen consisting of once-daily oral CAB at 30 milligram (mg) plus RPV at 25 mg. The participants will be offered the option to switch to the LA, intramuscular injections of CAB LA plus RPV LA, Q2M or the oral fixed dose combination (FDC) of dolutegravir (DTG) plus RPV, for the continued maintenance of HIV-1 RNA suppression, known as the Maintenance Phase (From Day 1 to Commercial Approval). Duration of study will vary from country to country, until regimen receives regulatory approval and becomes commercially available. The study plans to enroll approximately 100 participants. Any participant who receives at least one dose of CAB LA and/or RPV LA and discontinues the CAB LA plus RPV LA regimen for any reason will enter a 52-week Long-Term Follow-Up (LTFU) phase. Those participants must remain on suppressive highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) for at least 52 weeks after the last dose of CAB LA and or RPV LA.

Cannabis Oil for Pain in Parkinson's Disease

Full Title: A phase II, randomized, open-label, double-blind, two-center study to evaluate the tolerability, safety and dose-finding of oil cannabis preparation for pain in Parkinson's disease. Short title: Cannabis oil for pain in Parkinson's disease Sample Size: N = 15 Study Population: Patients with Parkinson's disease and pain, without cognitive impairment. Study Duration: July 2018 - July 2019 Study Agent/ Intervention: Cannabis oil: mixed oil cannabis preparation consisting of 3 different formulations of ∆-9THC and cannabidiol - 18:0; 10:10; and 1:20 respectively. Cannabis oil will be administered orally once per day, as required for pain; or taken 4h before bedtime, if no pain. Primary objective: to determine the safety and tolerability of different formulations of Cannabis oil for pain in PD patients (incidence and severity of adverse events). Secondary objective: to assess change from the start of treatment (V2) to end of treatment (V5) in frequency and severity of pain, sleep, dystonia and motor symptoms in PD patients.

Outcomes of Carbohydrate Loading Paediatric Patients Preoperatively for Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy

Randomised control trial of 150 paediatric patients aged between 3-8years. One group will receive a preoperative carbohydrate oral drink and the other group will receive current standard care (no drink) prior to undergoing tonsillectomy and/or adenoidectomy. Outcomes to be reported will be: 1) patient and parent satisfaction; 2) post operative pain score at: recover, 1 hour post op, prior to discharge home and then day 1 postoperatively; 3) PONV rates in recovery, prior to discharge home and again on Day 1 postoperatively; 4) sleep quality night after surgery.
