NCT ID: NCT02442635 Completed - Cancer Clinical Trials

Yoga During Chemotherapy Study

Start date: May 2015
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This proposal aims to expand non-pharmacologic options for the control of symptoms during chemotherapy using yoga practices. It is particularly focused on sleep disturbance with a secondary focus on fatigue.

NCT ID: NCT02162862 Completed - Fatigue Clinical Trials

Treating Disrupted Sleep in Individuals With Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Start date: July 2013
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine if either a targeted type of talk therapy (Phase I) or medication, Wellbutrin, (Phase II) improve sleep disturbance and/or fatigue in individuals with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).

NCT ID: NCT01975857 Completed - Clinical trials for Traumatic Brain Injury

Mind-Body Rehabilitative Program for Veterans With mTBI (Mild Traumatic Brain Injury)

Start date: October 2013
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The broad aim of the proposed study is to evaluate the comprehensive benefit of a novel mind-body therapeutic intervention, Mind-Body Bridging (MBB), in Veterans who suffer from mTBI and sleep disturbance co-morbid with PTSD and/or pain at the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System (VASLCHCS). Evidence for comprehensive benefit includes, but is not limited to, the average difference in outcomes between MBB and an active control, sleep education (SED), both integrated with the usual care for mTBI Veterans. The long-term goal of the proposed project is to introduce, implement and establish mind-body intervention programs as a behavioral health intervention modality that would serve as a generally sustainable health care intervention program before, during, and after deployment for military personnel.

NCT ID: NCT01954420 Completed - Pain Clinical Trials

A Brief Patient-Controlled Intervention for a Symptom Cluster in Advanced Cancer

Start date: December 2013
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of the research is to test the efficacy of a patient-controlled cognitive-behavioral intervention for pain, fatigue, and sleep disturbance during cancer treatment, and to evaluate moderators and mediators of intervention effects. The intervention uses guided imagery, relaxation exercises, and nature sound recordings, self-administered via an MP3 player. The study will determine (1) if the intervention helps to control symptoms during chemotherapy, (2) if personal and clinical characteristics influence how well the intervention works, and (3) if the cognitive-behavioral strategies reduce markers of stress and inflammation found in blood and saliva.

NCT ID: NCT01862653 Completed - Clinical trials for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Acupuncture for Sleep Disturbances in OEF/OIF Veterans With Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Start date: February 2013
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has emerged as a significant problem among troops returning from combat zones. A majority of these veterans will report difficulty maintaining or initiating sleep. The purpose of this research will be to conduct a prospective, randomized, wait list controlled, small scale feasibility study to examine if the use of an auricular acupuncture regimen improves quality of sleep for Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom (OIF/OEF)veterans with PTSD receiving standard PTSD treatment. Hypothesis: Objective and subjective sleep disturbances and sleep quality will be improved in OIF/OEF veterans who receive auricular acupuncture in conjunction with standard PTSD therapy or standard therapy alone.

NCT ID: NCT01642719 Completed - Aging Clinical Trials

Chronic Moderate Sleep Restriction in Older Adults

MSSS
Start date: July 1, 2012
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

Higher rates of mortality have been found both in short sleepers (< 6 hr/night) and long sleepers (> 8 hr/night), but there has been little experimental investigation of the effects of chronic, moderate sleep loss in long or average sleepers. Some scientists argue that older adults might be particularly vulnerable to negative effects of sleep loss, whereas other scientists argue that many older adults spend too much time in bed, and that moderate reduction of time-in-bed could help increase the quality of their sleep, and could even promote health and longevity, particularly in long sleepers. At 4 sites across the US, we will conduct a large (200 people), randomized, controlled, 5- year study to examine whether a 1-hour reduction of time spent in bed for 12 weeks has negative or positive effects on multiple health-related outcomes, including inflammation, sleepiness, body weight, mood, glucose regulation, quality of life, incidence of illness, and incidence of automobile accidents in older long sleepers as compared to older average sleepers.

NCT ID: NCT01543997 Completed - Sleep Disturbance Clinical Trials

Clinical Benefits of a Novel Sleep-focused Mind-body Program on Gulf War Illness (GWI) Symptoms

Start date: January 2012
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to investigate clinical benefits of a novel sleep-focused mind-body program on Gulf War Illness (GWI) symptoms.

NCT ID: NCT01366677 Completed - Depression Clinical Trials

Yoga for Persons With Severe Visual Impairment

RPY
Start date: August 2010
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study aims to provide novel information on the feasibility of yoga interventions for secondary symptoms related to severe vision loss, such as sleep disturbances, negative mood states, fall risk and balance. This information will be important for determining safe, cost-effective and reliable practices for the benefits of yoga as an alternative means for improved health and well-being. A yoga intervention that is integrative and evidence-based will benefit the blind population through effective treatments and prevention of secondary symptoms as well as serve to inform rehabilitation specialists, educators, and clinicians in the future.

NCT ID: NCT01321710 Completed - Pregnancy Clinical Trials

Sleep Disruption in New Mothers: An Intervention Trial

MOMS
Start date: December 2004
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to test a behavioral intervention to minimize sleep disruption and fatigue in new mothers after the birth of their first infant. This study also tests whether an acetaminophen intervention at the time of an infant's 2-month immunization series improves infant and maternal sleep.

NCT ID: NCT01142349 Completed - Osteoarthritis Clinical Trials

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Arthritis Pain and Insomnia in Older Adults

Lifestyles
Start date: January 2009
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study compares the efficacy of three group interventions for people with co-morbid osteoarthritis (OA) and insomnia to help them manage their OA symptoms. The investigators hypothesize that a combination cognitive-behavioral treatment will produce significantly greater initial and long-term improvements in OA symptoms than will the other two treatments.
