Pulsed Heat as a Drug-free Treatment for Pregnancy Related Pain

Start date: January 15, 2023
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Studies indicate that up to 75% of women will experience pain sometime during their pregnancy. Recent recommendations by the FDA recommended that non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAIDS) medications be avoided during pregnancy. This recommendation limits the pain medications available for use during pregnancy. Antidotal evidence suggests that the FDA cleared Soovu pulsed heat device may produce pain relief during pregnancy. This study tests the Soovu device's ability to provide pain relief during pregnancy and up to one month post-partum and may eventually offer a safe nondrug option to treat pregnancy related pain. This is an observational pilot study The primary objective and hypothesis of this study is that the use of the Soovu pain management device will produce a significant reduction of pain when comparing pre versus post treatment pain.

Dilution of Verapamil During Intraarterial Administration

Start date: December 13, 2022
Phase: Early Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

This study will be a randomized, single-blind, prospective trial designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of intra-arterial (IA) Verapamil diluted with normal saline compared to undiluted IA Nicardipine during transradial access (TRA) for percutaneous coronary angiography. Patients who are 18 years or older and undergoing non-emergent percutaneous coronary angiography via TRA will be included. Patients who are non-English speaking, pregnant, or intubated will be excluded. Patients will be randomized to one of the two following groups: 1. Group 1 will receive IA Verapamil 5 mg (2mL) diluted with 8 mL of normal saline 2. Group 2 will receive IA Nicardipine 400 mcg (undiluted, 8 mL) The investigators will document the patient's level of discomfort on the Visual Analogue Scale 30 seconds before and after administration of IA Verapamil/Nicardipine. The investigators will also document the presence of radial artery spasms.

NCT ID: NCT05624762 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Painful Diabetic Neuropathy

The Therapeutic Effect of Low-intensity Focused Ultrasound on Painful Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy

Start date: July 7, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Diabetic painful peripheral neuropathy (DPN) constitutes a serious threat to the outcomes of patients with diabetes. Yet, the treatments for targeting the underlying nerve damage and relieving pain are limited. The low-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU) has been demonstrated to regulate neuronal activity without any concomitant tissue damage. Studies in animal models have shown that LIFU could protect nerve cells against inflammation and oxidative stress, as well as stimulate neurotrophic factor production. In humans, LIFU has been reported to be effective in relieving peripheral neurogenic pain caused by carpal tunnel syndrome and chemotherapy drugs. Thus, we aim to design a randomized controlled double-blind study by using LIFU. The primary endpoint is the patient's pain score (NRS), and the secondary endpoints include Neuropathy Symptom Score (NSS) and Neuropathy Deficit Score (NDS). Through this study, we anticipate establishing a new method for managing painful DPN.

Symptoms and Quality of Life of Patients With Suspected Endometriosis

Start date: December 20, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational

All patients undergoing surgery due to suspected endometriosis in a previously selected 3-month period within the study period (between 12/2022 and 12/24) (each participating center will define the particular 3 months in question) will be asked to participate in this study. Upon inclusion, patients will be asked to fill out questionnaires regarding endometriosis-associated symptoms as well as a detailed patient history. Furthermore, patients will be asked to fill out 2 standardized questionnaires, one regarding quality of life (Endometriosis-Health Profile-30) and one regarding sexual function (Female Sexual Function Index). Six and 12 months after surgery, patients will again be asked to fill out these two standardized questionnaires as well as a questionnaire regarding postsurgical therapy and endometriosis-associated symptoms. The surgeon will be asked to fill out a form regarding the surgical procedure and possible surgical complications. The primary endpoints of this multicenter observational study are to prospectively examine: 1. if the individual symptoms correlate with the individual compartments of the surgical #ENZIAN Endometriosis classification 2. if the surgical intervention has an effect on the quality of life in relation to the individual #ENZIAN compartments.

The Effect of Music Concert and Inhaler Aromatherapy Applied to Patients Who Have Had Coronary Angiography on Pain Severity, Anxiety and Fear Levels

Start date: November 11, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Coronary angiography; It is defined as the imaging of the coronary arteries by providing the catheterization of the femoral, brachial or radial arteries, and the administration of contrast material under the guidance of fluoroscopy. Coronary angiography is a stressful procedure for the patient. Because patients are conscious during the procedure, they may experience anxiety about possible complications and an uncertain outcome. Anxiety causes changes in the physiological parameters of individuals by affecting the sympathetic nervous system of individuals. As with all procedures performed in the hospital environment, patients may experience pain during coronary angiography. Coronary angiography causes fear of death and anxiety in patients due to the unknowns it contains. Aromatherapy is the use of oils obtained from plants for treatment and care. Aromatherapy provides control of pain and anxiety by affecting the amygdala and hippocampus, which regulate fear and aggression behaviors in the limbic system. Music has been used by different civilizations throughout history for purposes such as reinforcing religious feelings, intensifying emotions and curing diseases. The multifaceted effect of music on people has led to its use in treatment. Among the therapeutic benefits of listening to music are the reduction of fear, pain and anxiety by diverting the attention of the individual, affecting the autonomic nervous system and increasing the secretion of endorphins. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of aromatherapy and music listening on pain, anxiety and fear in patients who will undergo coronary angiography
