Pain during ICU stay remains one of the major complaints for patients. Beside pain intensity, well described by patients' self reports, pain distress, which is an emotional experience, cannot be treated with usual analgesia. The aim of the study is to analyze the impact of hypnosis on pain intensity and distress on short and long term outcomes in non-sedated ICU patients.
The purpose of this research is to assess the impact of cannabis on the analgesic and abuse-related effects between men and women
Most of the women complain about the pain and discomfort during the mammography procedure. It is reported in the literature that most of the time these pain and discomfort are due to anxiety-related causes. During counseling before mammography scan, it was also observed that most of the women had a general belief that mammography is a very painful procedure and they have a negative perception about mammography. Thus, the Majority of pain seems due to anxiety-related issues. Studies also support this evidence and it is reported in the literature that most of the women avoid mammography scans due to this negative perception which causes delay and ultimately a late diagnosis. To validate the exact nature of pain and discomfort during mammography and to find out the strategy to cope with this anxiety-related pain and discomfort, there is a dire need for a study that can address this problem. Additionally, in our setup, most of the women who came for mammography are illiterate and belonged to the low socio-economic status. In these women, due to the negative perception, refusal or withdrawal rate is higher for mammography scans. A thorough literature search has revealed studies on this issue are scarce both nationally and internationally. In the current study, Paracetamol will be used as a possible intervention which is the safest premedication for reducing pain while achieving standard compression which is necessary for good image quality. Thus, this study can help develop a strategy to control mammography discontinuation due to pain and discomfort.
Breast cancer is the most common and leading cause of cancer deaths among females worldwide. Patients undergoing modified radical mastectomy (MRM) are associated with moderate to severe acute postoperative pain and shoulder mobility restriction. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of ultrasound-guided PECS block for reducing opioid consumption, providing adequate postoperative pain management and improving patient satisfaction following breast cancer surgery.
The FURTHER study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of MR-HIFU (alone or in combination with EBRT) compared to EBRT alone, the standard-of-care, as a palliative treatment option to relieve CIBP. The FURTHER study consists of a multicenter, three-armed randomized controlled trial (FURTHER RCT) and a patient registry arm (FURTHER Registry), which will be performed in six hospitals in four European countries.
To identify biological and phenotypic prognostic markers of recovery vs. persistence of pain and functional disability in adolescents with chronic musculoskeletal pain.
The study investigators are interested in learning more about how drugs, that are given to children by their health care provider, act in the bodies of children and young adults in hopes to find the most safe and effective dose for children. The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the PK of understudied drugs currently being administered to children per SOC as prescribed by their treating provider.
This study aims to evaluate behavioral interventions in conjunction with medical rehabilitation to promote functional health in patients recovering from orthopedic surgery. Half of the subjects in this study will be assigned to an intervention that meets with a study therapist to discuss implementing healthy habits. The other half of subjects will assigned to an intervention group that meets with a study therapists to discuss implementing healthy sleep habits. Both groups will undergo several physical and cognitive assessments.
This study aims to test the effectiveness of virtual reality (VR) as a non-pharmaceutical intervention to reduce pain and anxiety in children undergoing painful procedures in Phlebotomy, Radiology, Infusion, Orthopedics, Gastroenterology, and Immunology, amongst others, at CHLA, as measured by self- and proxy-report. Examples of the painful procedures include IV sticks, cast removals, allergy testing, and anorectal manometries.
