Filter by:This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled parallel group study of HU6 and placebo in subjects who are overweight or obese with T2D. The study will be conducted in 4 stages.
Nearly half of women have obesity and/or hypertension (HTN). Specific to women, pregnancy creates a vulnerable window for excess gestational weight gain (GWG), exacerbating intergenerational risks for obesity, HTN, type 2 diabetes (T2D), and cardiovascular disease (CVD) across the lifespan. Healthy lifestyles are the first-line recommendations for prevention and treatment of overweight/obesity, HTN, T2D, and CVD. The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) is a well-established, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)-led public health program focusing on healthy lifestyle changes and is effective at reducing 5-7% of body weight, lowering risks for T2D. Interestingly, research investigating the DPP as a lifestyle intervention for other chronic conditions (i.e., overweight/obesity and HTN) is lacking, demonstrating a missed opportunity. The aim of this study is to determine the initial effects of the first 6-months and after receiving the full 12-months of the virtual DPP compared to the DPP expanded with a CDC-approved HTN prevention component (DPP+) on physical activity, diet, weight, and CVD risk factors in 30 prediabetic women (18-45 years old) with a history of excess GWG, overweight/obesity, and HTN. Participants will be recruited through University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) community-based clinics using Epic. The Participants will be randomized into 2 groups (DPP and DPP+) and guided through the 12-month virtual DPP or DPP+ program using UTMB DPP personnel.
The purpose of this pilot study is to assess the feasibility of a double-blind, randomized placebo-controlled trial of semaglutide 2.4 mg subcutaneously once weekly on top of standard care compared to standard care alone.
The objective of this single-blind, parallel-arm, randomized clinical trial is to evaluate changes in body weight and composition, assess determinants of energy balance, and measure modulators of energy intake and expenditure, following 8 wk of calorie restriction (CR, -500 kcal/d) in combination with either overnight exposure (8 h/night) to normobaric hypoxia (NH; 15% oxygen, ~8500 ft elevation) or normoxia (NN; 21% oxygen, sea level), using a commercially available, in-home tent system, in adults who are overweight or obese.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and drug level of Pegbelfermin in healthy overweight and obese Chinese and Korean participants.
This online pilot weight loss study will explore the feasibility of recruiting individuals to an established online behavioral weight loss program of varying duration (4 months vs. 6 months), We will compare 6-month weight losses between the two programs of shorter and longer duration, respectively, and obtain data to characterize weight maintenance experiences and retention. Both groups will receive the same intervention; the only difference is the number of weeks the group will meet. Both groups will complete follow ups at 2, 4, 6, and 12 months (12 months after the study begins).
This study aims to assess the effect of stevia extract on postprandial glucose and insulin levels in overweight and obese adults when compared to sugar and water.
Rationale: Older adults spend the majority of their time in sedentary behaviours (SB). High amounts of SB have been correlated with reduced cognitive performance. Long periods of time spent sitting results in excessive glycemic variability, potentially contributing to cognitive decline. Reducing/replacing SB with short intermittent bouts of light physical activity have shown positive effects on glycemic variability. Thus, interrupting prolonged sitting with bouts of light physical activity may regulate blood glucose and thus mitigate cognitive decline. Purpose: This study intends to investigate the appropriate interval frequency of post-prandial SB reduction, by light physical activity needed to optimize total and incremental area under the curve for glucose response in overweight older adults at risk for glucose intolerance with mild cognitive impairment in both lab and free-living environments. Second, this study aims to investigate the acute impact of reducing SB on glycemic variability and its relationship with cognition. Hypothesis: First, there will be a dose-dependent response of more frequent interruptions of SB (more frequent intervals of light physical activity) with better glycemic control. Second, reducing SB will result in less glycemic variability, which will translate into better levels of cognitive performance. Methods: Generalized linear mixed models with random intercepts will be used to evaluate the differential effects of the experimental conditions on the selected outcomes.
The researchers will investigate blood and fecal responses in qualified study participants after eating walnuts for 4 weeks compared to not eating walnuts for 4 weeks. The two dietary interventions will be separated by a 4 week washout period. The order of diets will be random; study participants will complete both interventions. Dietary modifications will be part of the study protocol.
A key tenet of this project is that of reaching translational human diagnosis and biomarker end points. To lay a foundation and make progress towards these translational goals, investigators will address the following specific aim: To determine if BMI/ obesity differentially influence expression and epigenetic signatures in triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) from Hispanic compared to NHW women.
