NCT ID: NCT03458806 Completed - Clinical trials for Aortic Valve Stenosis

Phono- and Electrocardiogram Assisted Detection of Valvular Disease

PEA-Valve
Start date: February 22, 2018
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The diagnosis of valvular heart disease (VHD), or its absence, invariably requires cardiac imaging. A familiar and inexpensive tool to assist in the diagnosis or exclusion of significant VHD could both expedite access to life-saving therapies and reduce the need for costly testing. The FDA-approved Eko Duo device consists of a digital stethoscope and a single-lead electrocardiogram (ECG), which wirelessly pairs with the Eko Mobile application to allow for simultaneous recording and visualization of phono- and electrocardiograms. These features uniquely situate this device to accumulate large sets of auscultatory data on patients both with and without VHD. In this study, the investigators seek to develop an automated system to identify VHD by phono- and electrocardiogram. Specifically, the investigators will attempt to develop machine learning algorithms to learn the phonocardiograms of patients with clinically important aortic stenosis (AS) or mitral regurgitation (MR), and then task the algorithms to identify subjects with clinically important VHD, as identified by a gold standard, from naïve phonocardiograms. The investigators anticipate that the study has the potential to revolutionize the diagnosis of VHD by providing a more accurate substitute to traditional auscultation.

NCT ID: NCT03457974 Completed - Dental Caries Clinical Trials

Saliva Profiles in Children With Congenital Heart Disease

Start date: January 1, 2011
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether there are relationships between the salivary oxidative stress status of children with CHD directly dental caries including gender, age, salivary flow rate, salivary pH, salivary buffering capacity and drug intake such as angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. If such relationships exist, they might be employed to patient caries -prevention treatment.

NCT ID: NCT03453073 Completed - Stroke Clinical Trials

Chocolate and CVD Risk in Postmenopausal Women

Start date: December 15, 2014
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The investigators will conduct an epidemiological analysis of data from the Women's Health Initiative to investigate the prospective association between chocolate intake and the risk of heart disease and stroke.

NCT ID: NCT03446794 Completed - Clinical trials for Cardiovascular Diseases

Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion With WATCHMAN® Device in Patients With Non-valvular Atrial Fibrillation and End-stage Chronic Kidney Disease on Hemodialysis

WATCH-HD
Start date: March 14, 2018
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is more common in patients with renal disease compared to the general population an risk increase to as much as 10 times in patients on hemodialysis (HD). Stroke is an important cause of morbidity, mortality and suffering for patients with end-stage chronic kidney disease (ESCKD) on hemodialysis. The risk of bleeding in these patients can be roughly 5-fold higher that without it. Current guidelines recommend the use of oral anticoagulants (AO) to prevent stroke or systemic thromboembolism in high-risk patients with AF. Left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) reduces the risk of bleeding while allows thromboembolic stroke prevention. The aim of the study is to assess the procedural safety on stroke and bleeding prevention of LAAC in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) and ESCKD on HD.

NCT ID: NCT03446313 Completed - Clinical trials for Cardiovascular Diseases

Technology-Based Intervention to Promote Heart Health After Cardiac Rehab (Mobile4Heart)

Mobile4Heart
Start date: February 28, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine whether using a mobile app increases adherence to a heart healthy prescription after discharge from a cardiac rehab program.

NCT ID: NCT03443193 Completed - Clinical trials for Coronary Heart Disease

Periodization of Exercise Training in Patients With Coronary Heart Disease.

PERIOD
Start date: December 16, 2015
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The research project includes two components that assess exercise physiology parameters, cerebrovascular reserve, cognitive functions and cardiac function in coronary heart disease patients at rest, during an acute exercise, and after two different periodized training programs.

NCT ID: NCT03438123 Completed - Parkinson Disease Clinical Trials

Data Collection Study for the Spectrum Dynamics Multi-purpose CZT SPECT Camera

Start date: November 28, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study evaluates SPECT image data acquired from Spectrum Dynamics' multi-purpose CZT SPECT-CT camera. All subjects will undergo routine clinical Anger SPECT imaging and an additional SPECT acquisition on the CZT SPECT camera. Additionally some subjects will undergo CT on the CZT SPECT-CT camera. The quality of images from each device will be compared.

NCT ID: NCT03435354 Completed - Clinical trials for Congenital Heart Disease

Enhanced Physical Activity Support in Congenital Heart Disease Clinical Care

PAToolKit
Start date: March 5, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Our cluster randomized controlled trial of a novel clinical practice change will IMPACT the physical activity (PA) of children living with congenital heart defects (CHD) through our Innovative and pragmatic approach to systematically incorporate PA counselling within each clinic visit. Long-term, the focus is to prevent or treat the most common secondary morbidities of these patients (atherosclerosis, anxiety, depression) through enhanced PA. We have previously shown that home-based, PA interventions can increase daily PA and enhance PA motivation, motor skill and fitness when delivered via an intensive research intervention. Our objectives for this study are to Measure the feasibility and efficacy of PA counselling using clinical resources among paediatric CHD patients (daily PA, PA motivation, competence, quality of life) and on clinic systems (% patients counselled, clinic/kinesiology personnel support required, clinic visit time, # of PA questions). Our Patient-empowering, ready-to-use, self-explanatory "tool kit" of clinician PA resources and patient/family/clinician friendly searchable electronic PA database will be used to promote the Active lifestyles that are critically important to physical/mental health, peer socialization & childhood growth/development. 90% of children are not active enough for optimal health. We initially target children with CHD because they are less active than peers, and their most important secondary morbidities can be prevented or treated through PA. Our Collaborative approach with patients, their families and leaders in paediatric cardiac healthcare will optimize our "PA tool kit" and novel practice change for Translation to all paediatric CHD healthcare systems (primary, secondary, tertiary) through our pan-Canadian Cardiac Kids Quality of LIFFE Research and Knowledge Exchange Network, a collaborative of 10 patient/family support networks and 10 paediatric cardiac clinics in 6 provinces focused on Learning, Independence, Friends, Fitness & Emotional health (LIFFE).
