Evaluation of the Measurement Properties of a 5 Time Repeated Instrumented Timed Up and Go (5iTUG)

In order to tailor interventions, objective assessments of physical function is needed. A limitation of several of today's clinical assessments is that they require too much time and/or space. The Timed Up and Go (TUG) is a commonly used clinical test of physical function in older populations. The TUG is particularly useful due to its short administration time and the little space that is required. The TUG is however of limited value when used in higher-functioning older adults due to ceiling effects. Instrumented versions of TUG (iTUG) computes several outcome measures in addition to the traditional outcome measure which is the total duration. The aim of this study is to evaluate the construct- and discriminative validity of outcomes derived from sensor signals recorded with a smartphone during a five times repeated iTUG (5iTUG).

Variable Visual Stimulus as a Novel Approach for Gait Rehabilitation

Deterioration in walking performance as a result of disease or simply as a result of aging is a serious threat to independence in older adults. In this project, the investigators propose an innovative visual stimulus, based on advanced mathematical and biological theories, with which older adults can walk in time to improve their walking. The investigators' goal is to apply this simple, cost-effective, and novel gait rehabilitation therapy across all populations who have difficulties walking, e.g. stroke patients, fallers or those who undergo joint replacement.

On the other hand, treadmill walking has shown long-term effectiveness on PD patients' gait and quality of life. Comparison Between Two Operational Techniques for Total Knee Replacement

Advance Knee osteoarthritis is treated by Total knee replacement. Since the first TKR in 1973 there has been continuous advance in implant technology as well as operative technique, yet current patient satisfaction after the procedure is accepted to be about 80%. There are a few operative techniques to perform TKR. Until recently the most common technique is the anterior approach to the knee and then using mechanical instrumentation to make the bone cuts for the femur and tibia. A second popular technique is the anterior approach to the knee and then using a kinematic alignment to make the bone cuts. The investigators wish to compare short term results of the two operative techniques as evidenced in patient objective functional scores and also by evaluating the gait of the patients by using the REHAGAIT ANALYZER PRO by HASOMED inc. Magdeburg Germany.
